Here in Australia we do not have that problem with the radio and I have done close to 400,000 Kay’s in mine and the lifters are fine I do a oil flush everytime I change my oil and I keep on top of vacuum leaks miss fires and knock sensors because the car not running right is not good for the lifters
Lockout on the radio was an option on the cop cars. Also the police equipment installers over there are a bunch of cowboys and what they don't trash in respect of the factory wiring loom when installing stuff, they do on the way back out to auction.

I have a 2013 with just over 140000 miles on it. The AFM is still active. I suppose it is possible that it failed and was replaced while it was in service but obtaining the service history of these cars is next to impossible. If you change your oil regularly and make sure the levels stay proper, the system is not a ticking timebomb. Fleet maintanance mentality is the approach that works. The average car owner fixes broken shit while the savvy owner is a step or two ahead and thinking preventative. I will be doing the delete soon though so I dont feel like I need to put my ear on the hood all the time in order to avoid filling the engine up with cam fragments.
right, and thats good that you plan on doing the delete soon. I have heard a lot of mixed feelings on whether or not proper maintenance is the best preventative from destroying these engines. Sometimes the lifters just go boom
Any particular year to stay away from? Was the displacement on demand every year? I have a dealer local to me that specializes in police auction vehicles. They get caprice ppv’s on occasion I’m going to call soon to inquire about them finding one for me. Any input would be appreciated. Edit: Also during my research I discovered that you can bring the car to a GM dealer and they can reprogram the radio to function properly as there is a civilian setting and a police setting. Cost is about an hour of shop rate.
There is no specific year model to stay away from, all the Caprice PPV were used for the Police only and were not readily made available to the public, everything works when they leave the factor in Australia, it is the modifications process that get done by after market fitters fitting the police system in the given USA state, but in saying that I believe you can still obtain new parts from a dealership (further investigation required). As for the radio issue he mentions in the video, I believe the police put a system lock on / inside the radio system and the system lock or radio system needs to be cleared or the locking system removed and the radio reprogramed, i that does not work then I would suspect wiring issue after the removal of the police system, but any GM dealership should be able to do reset or remove this from the system. As for the horn not working, it is disconnected or rewired and the car is fitted with a siren, so? depending on who did the police system fit out or removal, it should be plug and play, check for wiring issue at the horn or siren connection as mentioned in the video. As for the suspension? I do not believe that they are that expensive to replace, buying genuine new may be but I guess it depends on your budget and the availability of after market replacements. As for the Tyre Pressure Sensor (TPS senor) you can just remove them and not have them inside your wheel, and then just turn the TPS system off via the dash cluster controls inside the car. As for the BCM? Any Bidirectional scan tool can disable or enable the TPS system and there is no need to alter the BCM. As for resetting the tyre pressure sensor system, yes it is annoying some times but it is a simple process once you know how and it is all done by the car key remote, and the car itself beeps the horn and illuminates the indicator light to signal where to start and finish. As for the DOD (Displacement On Demand) system? Yes this is one thing I would have disabled or deleted or removed, this was a GM thing and was not very successful. If you buying one, you must certainly understand that you are buying a project car as it has been modified by after market contractors to fit the police systems inside, these cars are very solid cars made by GMH (General Motors Holden) in Australia and are well loved and appreciated vehicles.
