KD can bring you to tears with that voice! She ALWAYS receives a very deserving standing ovation when she sings this song. Another one that always earns her a standing ovation is when she sings "Crying" as her tribute to Roy Orbison, it's nothing short of amazing. Roy himself said she had the best female voice he'd ever heard.

Watch her Vancouver Olympic performance at the opening ceremonies. She had just received word that an athlete had died of injuries sustained in a training run. She had to go on and perform. KD Lang performing barefoot makes me think of another iconic Canadian singer, Anne Murray. She also performed barefoot for most of her career. Leonard Cohen was Canadian too. I love KD and I love Anne Murray too. Anne's voice is so warm and rich and full, and she was a voice that I heard a lot growing up. Canada has an abundance of talented musical artists, and I love seeing so many young people around the world are being exposed to so many of them through RUclips reaction channels. I love watching people hearing and seeing amazing musical performances for the first time, regardless of the singer/group/band, but I enjoy it the most when the artist(s) are one of our 40 million.
Have a great time during this holiday season, regardless of which holiday you celebrate! And if you're not part of any of the groups that celebrate their main religious holiday at this time of year, or if you don't celebrate any religious events at all, may you make lots of overtime and score some great cookies from others! ✌️& 🖖 from one ❄️🇨🇦❄️ to another.

Shon you were waiting for a big over the top crazy vocal run. KD has the maturity as a singer to know it is not needed here. She exhibits the art of control & restraint. We all know she could do thoses overblown runs that have become too common in music today. Just becausr a singer can go into the statosphere doesn't mean they have to all the time. KD can sing anything and i feel her approach here was a masterclass in the art of not being ego driven but for serving the song. She is hands down one of the best singers ever & a favourite of mine. Check out her duets with the late legendary Tony Bennett.

After k.d.lang sang this song at this venue, this is what Cohen's partner told the press:
"Cohen's partner, singer Anjani Thomas, said: "After hearing k.d. lang perform that song at the Canadian Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2006 we looked at each other and said, 'well, I think we can lay that song to rest now!"
That is from the songwriter himself.

KD Lang. Sat in the 2nd row at a concert in Houston. She came down and sat on the proscenium of the stage. I couldn't have been 10 feet from her. Shon.. you should consider watching Leonard’s version.. then watch KDs Olympic version… with the understanding that the Olympic committee asked Leonard himself to perform it - but with KD vs just by himself. Leonard refused - stating that he believed KD would do a much better job w/o him holding her back. Several yrs ago, KD performed the song for Leonard at show honoring him and his many contributions to Canadian music (they’re both Canadians). When she finished - she shook his hand and thanked him for this song… he told her that it was now ‘her song’… he gave it to her!! They are both amazingly talented musicians - you will enjoy anything either of them perform!!

Agree 100% on kd lang, but please skip Shania. Talented voice, yes, but way too gimmicky. There is not a single Shania song I really ever want to hear again. Sorry, she was gifted and as I understand it was supporting all her siblings after losing her parents - I applaud her for that - but her “music” never rose above mainstream sellout junk. She could have done more with that voice. Kd lang, on the other hand, brings people to tears. No comparison.

You have to hear Leonard Cohen sing it at the London Concert. Other great performances by him are his original recording of Susanne, his later song, the political satire Everybody Knows, and his final song, You Want It Darker. Other singers have "better" voices, but he still resonates.

Did you know that this song took years for the late Mr. Cohen to write? K..D. Lang’s cover in THIS show leaves out a verse. Probably because it was a family friendly show.
