This was performed at the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and, in my opinion, is her best performance of this song ever. Canadians are so proud of KD.
This was at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The Canadian Olympic organizing committee had asked Leonard Cohen to perform Hallelujah and Leonard said to them “call K.D., it’s her song now…she has taken it to a place I never even dreamed possible”. And so they did and this is what we got 🙌🏼🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦 p.s. YOU IS SINGIN’ SO GOOD I ALMOST CUSSED is such a great review of this performance Edited to add: if you love KD Lang this much, you get honorary Canadian status-it’s the law!! ❤️🇨🇦❤️
The Olympic Committee wanted to acknowledge and remember Nodar Kumaritashvili, the Georgian luge athlete who suffered a fatal crash during a training run for the 2010 Winter Olympics, just prior to the opening ceremony
OMG I so agree with the person right above this I discovered you a little while ago and I've watched your reactions you're so awesome with different reactions that you do even though most of them are way before you you are just an awesome guy and I totally agree you are definitely and honorary Canadian 👋🇨🇦❤️🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
One of my favorite moments in music. The way she bowed down to him (in respect) was amazing and so heart felt. I believe that was at her induction to the Canadian Hall of Fame ? Or was it his induction ,cant' remember.Just a beautiful moment in time.
I saw her sing hallelujah on the hill at the Edmonton Folk Festival. Every time I hear K.D. Lang it brings me back to that night on the hill. AMAZING!❤️🇨🇦❤️
KD Lang, what can I say. I am so happy that new generations are seeing her for her talent today and accepting her for individuality and amazing voice. I knew KD, back in the days, she had this amazing talent, but people couldn't get passed the fact of her looks, performing barefoot, her down-to-earth nature, her sexual orientation, oh the critics....but she rose above all that, because she never had to SAY how good she was, she just kept letting people hear that voice of hers, that even a legend like Leonard Cohen can say, she made his song, " It's hers now", says a lot about the talent she has. She had to go through a lot of BS, but KD is a kind and humble person and that is why I love her, and happy that a new generation is falling in love with her as well. Thank you so much Real Dog for your reaction. May you and your followers find peace, joy and happiness in a moment of every single day. Maybe not all day long, but able to recognize a moment in the day that deserves gratitude.
I don't know. It seems to me she had great exposure. Carson had her on three nights in a row. I don't think that ever happened before. BTW before she went barefoot she wore cut-off cowboy boots.
Gives me the chills! I saw KD Lang in Toronto a few years ago and took my daughter with me. My daughter was just beside herself hearing her sing. KD is a national treasure in Canada and it’s nice to see the appreciation of her talent and the love for her!
@@shirleysaunders628 This was, as I stated, at the opening ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The composer and originator of this song, Leonard Cohen, made the statement that his favorite cover of this song is the one by KD Lang. That’s saying a lot. KD is a Canadian treasure. 👏👏🇨🇦🇨🇦
Just catching your wonderful reaction--and yes, we in Canada are VERY proud of our gal. As another person commented, this was a performance that was part of the Opening Celebration of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver (my town)....BUT what most people would not be aware of was that this Opening Day began with horrible news of the death of a young athlete during his training run in a sled competition: Nodar Kumaritashvili was from the country of Georgia. The news was so utter tragic, and many wondered quietly if it would impact the rest of the Games. But as the "big show" of an opening ceremony was progressing, the lights dimmed and candle-like torches were let, and KD Lang and her voice blessed by heaven above, brought us all together with this extraordinary "lament" written by another great Canadian, Leonard Cohen. That particular song, in those few minutes, sung with such emotion, seemed to give us all space to cry out to God for the anguishing reality of life--and the speed with which death can meet us: even the young and the strong. That was 12 years ago and I still get chills listening to KD's masterful and heart wrenching rendition offered up by KD - What an artist. What a woman. What a voice.
You’ve just witness the all time greatest version of this song in my opinion! KDHas a wonderful collection of songs! You should try a few that aren’t as much mainstream, like, helpless, the air that I breathe, summer fling, western stars. Everything she sings is Gold!! Love your reaction to this!! Enjoy!💕
From the Vancouver Sun - Feb. 12, 2010: "The day began with a tragic report from the Whistler Sliding Centre. The morning of the opening ceremony, Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili died after losing control of his sled and hitting a steel pole during a training run at the notoriously fast track. That evening at B.C. Place Stadium, the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC) dedicated the opening ceremony to the fallen luger and his teammates received a standing ovation. " I was living in Winnipeg at the time and watched the opening ceremony and this performance live on TV. All of Canada was in mourning for the young man and his family. K.D. Lang's performance was beautiful and cathartic - one felt as though the athlete's spirit was sent off that evening. I cried through the entire song.
So glad you reacted to this. KD Lang is such a powerful and beautiful singer, without one iota of production or tuning. Always loved her voice. She sang this at a tribute to Leonard Cohen, and blew the roof off. I like this version because it is so simple and pure.
Her voice is gorgeous..I was crying and singing..thank you for listening..check out her music. She is amazing..and check out her version of "the air that I breathe"...you shall melt
What's amazing about K.D.'s arrangement is each time she sings the word "hallelujah" it has a different 'vibe' for want of a better description. Many singers of the song simply repeat the same way of singing the word every time.
Leonard Cohen, the writer of the song, had been scheduled to perform it at a Canadian Award show, but couldn't, so they asked k d. After Leonard heard it he said "it's her song, now" IMO, kd was a Canadian national treasure as well as one of the most amazing talents ever. I was heartbroken when she retired :(
I was lucky enough to see her in Melbourne Australia in a small venue. Hearing her sing this live was a magical musical time that I will never forget. What a joy to my ears she was!!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! “Three Cigarettes In An Ashtray” is another song that KD shows what amazing talent and control she has with her voice. Hi much love from Canada. Just want to say that Leonard Cohen is the original he wrote the song he is from Canada. There have been many versions that are absolutely wonderful and that's because I think it is such a beautiful song but there's something about the way she does this is one of my favorite ways and versions besides the original. Katie Lang is from Canada and she was in the closing ceremonies and if you look you'll see that she's barefoot because she feels the music better and she has sung for a long time in bare feet. She is also one of a very few singers that reach I believe a five or six octave range. God bless thank you for doing this song
If you go and watch that again, watch her microphone work. She does these amazing abrupt movements where the microphone becomes her instrument too. It controls the volume and the effect on her voice just by how/where she holds it. She's a masterclass in how to sing and work a crowd. I'm really glad you're enjoying her. Constant Craving is next. But "If I Were You" is considered her biggest chart-topper. It's from the album Ingenue in 1992, which was when she started to really get noticed. By 1995, she was winning awards internationally. Miss CHatelaine was another popular song off Ingenue. ("Chatelaine" is a Canadian fashion magazine, if that helps with the reference.) She's 60 years old now and has been singing since 1981! Big catalog for you to explore. Her early stuff is more country, actually.
I saw KD perform a song with Tony Bennett years ago, watched it on the cable station TRIO. Tony began the song, I can't even remember the name of the song, but when KD came in, the whole audience let out an audible gasp. That performance is what I now judge singers by, how close do they come to that degree of perfection? I have a whole stack of live performance VHS tapes, made while watching awards shows, Austin City Limits, whatever, but alas, I didn't have the tape ready for that performance. I messaged her a few years later to see if she could recall the performance, it wasn't in her recall, and I never saw it on you tube. I've seen singers come close, never equal that.
Great reaction, Adogg. I am so happy that you recognize just ho great she is! That performance was spell-binding. I have a number of her albums. One of my favorite songs is BIRD ON A WIRE.
K.D. Lang is my favorite female singer of all. She sings like an angel. Check out K.D. singing: "The Consequences of Falling", "Constant Craving". and "Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray". Love her! 🙂
I too, have heard many covers of this song. But that has to be the absolute best I’ve ever heard! She has the voice of an angel!! ❤️❤️❤️ Check out her song “Constant Craving”. You won’t be disappointed!!
ADogg, I watch your program on a daily basis. I am in my 70's and well remember KD Lang when she first came on stage. I have such tremendous respect for her and her talent. It's more than talent, its a blessing from God above. KD doesn't ever just sing a song and I don't believe that it's just the twist she applies to a song, it's much more than that. She has the ability to know, to feel the meaning of the words and brings the story/message to the audience with every word, every note.
Thank you SO much for doing this reaction. I had been begging reactors to do a reaction to this version for the longest time and now you can see why... This is the best version of this song I have ever seen and being a Canadian, we couldn't be prouder to have her as one of our own. Constant Craving is probably my next favorite after this one. She is just phenomenal! Great reaction too!
You are getting this mixed up with when she performed Neil's'"Helpless" at the Junos,he was sick and couldn't attend. There is a video somewhere on youtube
Right, she sang "Helpless" and "Hallelujah" there. Here's the "Hallelujah" one. Barefoot and all. 2005. It's amazing, and the audience response at the end is also amazing. ruclips.net/video/JAtc-aj7CV4/видео.html
I love your reaction to KD she is our national treasure. Sometimes I forget to breath listening to her. Her voice is the best I have ever heard in my 60yrs. ❤🇨🇦
This version just makes me proud to be Canadian. Written by a Canadian, perfected by a Canadian. I am old enough to remember when KD Lang first came on the scene and how she had to fight to be herself and how she just never gave up on being herself and being true to her individuality. She is just amazing.
She’s an incredible performer, one of the finest ever. I’d suggest giving Trail Of Broken Hearts and Pulling Back The Reigns a try! Great reaction sir.
Yes, I always loved those two songs in particular (from - I think it was - 'Absolute Torch & Twang' ?) so thanks for the reminder; I am off to listen to them now for the first time in ages..... 😔
She sang this at the Juno Awards the next year and I am hard pressed to say which version is my favourite. Woman has a voice that doesn't quit and it is absolutely gorgeous.
I hold a soft spot in my heart for k.d. lang. She went to high school with a friend of mine. My friend, who I didn’t know at that time, had epilepsy. She had been bullied a lot in her previous school. When she moved to Consort, Alberta, KD Lang, who is considered one of the coolest kids in the high school, took Allison under her wing. Allison said it was the first time she belonged anywhere.
There were 50,000 + in attendance in the Vancouver stadium who were so mesmerized, held spell-bound, that there was hardly a sound from them. K.D. held them in the palm of her hand throughout the whole performance. Magnificent rendition.
This is Canada at its bet. The amazing voice of k.d. Lang singing the amazing lyrics of fellow Canadian Leonard Cohen, in Vancouver, on the world stage, at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. More people need to react to this. Great reaction Da Real Adogg, again :)
Love this reaction…. Absolutely one of the best kd performances… goose bumps all the way every time I see this version. More more kd reactions please from one of her biggest fans.
I LOVE the smile that her performance brought to your face! I have enjoyed that same feeling for years and years since I have been a fan of kd's since 1988. I was right out of high school; and she became pretty popular for her performance at the closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in 88 (maybe 84?) My first album I bought of hers was Absolute Torch and Twang. You could react to ANY of the songs, but one you may like is Pulling Back the Reins. Beautiful song and beautiful video of where she grew up in Alberta, Canada. Thank you for sharing your reactions to her; she is the quintessential songstress. The most amazing range, power, vibrato and ability to hold long notes. She still, after all of these years of listening to her albums, brings me such happiness and joy.
I play this every so often and to this day I'm still blown away by it! It's so emotional and moving. It was the high light of the Olympic Games in Vancouver in 2010. Made Canada so proud! 🇨🇦
I absolutely LOVED watching you listen to kd sing this song. Her ethereal voice just stops me in my tracks. Whenever kd sings, it's like a master class in singing. Her musical timing is so impeccable, her breath control incomparable. I love how she lets a note float in space for what seems an eternity...and then bends it at the last possible moment. 🤯 Luther Vandross was another master singer who could do that so well. He had one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard - the voice of an ANGEL. It came from his soul. kd is the same kind of singer. She just goes off into the ether 🌌 and takes you with her. 😅 Did you find yourself holding your breath while she let that note float forever? I do it every time. I love the INTEGRITY with which kd sings a song. She never resorts to cheap tricks like "over singing" a song. She has nothing to prove and lets her phenomenal voice and the music speak for themselves - no theatrics needed! Once you hear kd sing a song, that's IT! Like Whitney Houston, kd's voice is UNIQUELY beautiful...strong and powerful, cool and crystalline, delicate and filigree. She can sing anything. Dionne Warwick is another of my all-time favorites. Her early songs, "Don't Make Me Over" and "Anyone Who Had a Heart" still make me cry. I never get tired of listening to these old standards because they are just as beautiful and relevant today as they were then. The times change, but love doesn't. The 60s had some of the most beautiful love songs ever written and Dionne's exquisite voice was made for them. Her musicality and sensitive phrasing are impeccable. Those Bacharach songs were technically very difficult but she sailed right through them and put her stamp on them. Another ICONIC singer. I was a little shocked you didn't know who Roy Orbison was. Orbison is a legend and renowned as one of the greatest male singers of his generation. Listen to his "Pretty Woman" and "Not Alone Anymore" with the epic Traveling Wilburys backing him (Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne, George Harrison). His voice could be very delicate and beautiful but also incredibly powerful. So glad you popped up on my RUclips today. Look forward to watching more of your videos.
I know I’m a little late here. I really think one of the things I love about K.D. and especially this version of this song is the fact that she doesn’t over sing it. We all know she can do all of those vocal acrobatics but she doesn’t. I love the tension that she leaves there instead. Definitely hits on another level.
Love KD Lang, please listen to "Three cigarettes in an ashtray" and "in care of the blues" from the Johnny Carson show are some of her earliest performances.

("Chatelaine" is a Canadian fashion magazine, if that helps with the reference.)
She's 60 years old now and has been singing since 1981! Big catalog for you to explore. Her early stuff is more country, actually.
This is one of the greatest vocal performances of all time. K D Lang is a phenomenal performer.
Stunning performance! Thanks, K.D.
So beautiful! Thank you for sharing. I have not heard her version.
Love her! 🙂
Same!
LOVE KD Lang!!!! I'd love to see a colab with her and Home Free!!!
She is my favorite. Her voice is so beautiful! Trail of Broken Hearts and Busy Being Blue are two that I love. Great reaction!
Her control is just absolutely incredible, one of the most underrated vocalists of our time. Just love her
To me K. D. Lang does an awesome job on this song. Her voice is gold!!!
I was fortunate enough to see her live at the Greek about 20 years ago.
I saw her sing Hallelujah at Tanglewood years ago.
@@suzieq0452 yep my mistake, thanks for the correction!
Gives me chills. Best rendition ever. God bless JD Lang 💜
I love your reaction! She has an amazing voice!!!! Gives me chills! And she has the mic so far away from her mouth too!!!
Makes me cry every single time!!🎶 Please do "Constant Craving", its so good!!🎤🎶
everyone has their favorite version. kd's version is my favorite.
Oh my goodness!! K. D. BEST FEMALE VOCALIST EVER!!
There are just no words to even comment on k.d.lang. ❤❤❤👏👏👏👏👏👏
Amazing to know this was one of Leonard Cohen's many songs. K.D Lang certainly was amazing singing his (Leanords) song. Just incredible. xx
I never appreciated this song until I heard KD sing this, no one sings it like KD Lang
kathy dawn lang...has a phenomenal voice!!
PS: love your reactions!
Wow! That's a great story. Thank you for sharing that 🙂 Ontario, Canada
i love kd singing 'barefoot', especially the official video. she howls like a wolf in it. haunting.
Thank you for reacting to this version of Hallelujah. She has such a beautiful voice with such emotion. Love your reactions!
Man, Adogg, I love kd lang! I would LOVE to see you react to her song "Pullin' Back the Reins". What an incredible voice she has.
There were 50,000 + in attendance in the Vancouver stadium who were so mesmerized, held spell-bound, that there was hardly a sound from them. K.D. held them in the palm of her hand throughout the whole performance. Magnificent rendition.
🇨🇦 Canadas proud of both KD and the songs writer Leonard Cohen🇨🇦
This just gives me chills. Love this song and this singer.
She throws down--every time!! Love K.D. Lang!
I love that she brought tears to your eyes. Thanks for all the music you choose and for sharing the experience.
It is astonishing and moving to hear that much beauty coming through one voice. k.d. lang possesses one of the finest voices you will ever hear.
Kd lang music ahhhhh l love her voice her personality everything about her is absolutely amazing beautiful inside and out
This is Canada at its bet. The amazing voice of k.d. Lang singing the amazing lyrics of fellow Canadian Leonard Cohen, in Vancouver, on the world stage, at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
More people need to react to this. Great reaction Da Real Adogg, again :)
Love k.d. Lang!!! I just got goosebumps and cried in one song. She one of my favourite canadian singer
This was from the Vancouver Olympics in 2010. She’s a local, so to have her sing was magic before she opened her mouth!! I cried the entire time!
she does the best version of this song!!!
So underrated.
A beautiful voice, a great performer.
She is THE BEST at this song. Bar none!!!!
KD was my neighbor in 1989 in Vancouver BC Canada. She's an amazing person.
Best version and best singer ever
She has such a beautiful voice!
2010 Olympics. I got to see her there-was amazing!
She does some fantastic Roy Orbison songs too along with her own songs , such subtle passion.
I play this every so often and to this day I'm still blown away by it! It's so emotional and moving. It was the high light of the Olympic Games in Vancouver in 2010. Made Canada so proud! 🇨🇦
Canadian songer writer/poet Leonard Cohen and Canadian singer K.D.Lang at the 2010 Olympics ,Vancouver, B.C. Canada, makes me cry every time
I absolutely LOVED watching you listen to kd sing this song.
I agree with everything you say. Makes me cry.
lol.... your reaction was ace!!! So cute to see you truly appreciate what you were witnessing! loved it.. and it gave me such a giggle and warm feeling. Laughed at you near cussing.. and your enthusiasm! Brilliant! 🤩🥰
This event, the final ceremony of the Winter Olympics in British Columbia, was my first KD Lang experience. What a surprise. What a memory. Great reaction too.
