I added better shelves and supports. I also added a pitched roof with plastic reenforced fiberglass as the roof material. With a little facia board to finish it off, it turned out great. I’ve had it 3 years now. Next I added a tunnel to a flat piece of plywood to include the cat door. I open the window, add the wood/door and they go straight into the catio.

Thank you; planning on purchasing this. But I'd love to see how you did that little tunnel from the window to the catio. I know you said it's easy and self-explanatory, but it isn't to me. I've never been terribly handy, so I'd love just a 1-2 minute overview of it. You vid only shows it for like 2 seconds. Trust me; I'll bet I'm not the only one scratching their head how you did it! Anyway, would love to see that if you can; if not, thanks for this vid anyhow. Peace.

Thank you for this really great review. I purchased this same Catio kit, but haven't assembled it yet. I'm still working out the tunnel entry from our window. Watching how you built the Catio kit, with your advice to think outside of the box is really helpful. I would like to use a different roofing too, and if possible, make the door human sized. I plan to put a sealant on the wood, as you suggested. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with it.

I ended up ordering this catio & converted it into an indoor aviary. It works perfect for my cockatiels! Any bird larger than that could prob chew it's way out, but it works perfect for my flock of 3 tiels & 1 budgie. They love it!
What spray did you use to seal it? How long did you wait from sealing it to putting it together?

Nice video, I’m looking at building a catio and researching some premade and my own design. Question for ya, or anyone out there with a catio, does giving the indoor cat a taste of the outdoors make them act out in negative ways, like trying to bolt out the front door more or marking territory inside because they are triggered by other animals they see outside?

Any product suggestions for a cat door installed in a casement window? Since it opens like a door and can't be partially lifted up ... I haven't found a solution apart from cutting a hole in the screen.
I purchased my catio last year ! I purchased two this one and the one that has a inside and outside so I can store litter boxes out of the house! I connected both together my cats really love It ! I came here to build my first one and he gives some really good advice! A year later and my roof is caving definitely suggest getting that corrugated roof. Also spraying them will seriously maintain the color. We only sprayed one because laziness and one catio is greatly discolored while the other still looks brand spanking new. Came back here to see how he attached his roof because I’ll be changing mine out today . Much thanks to you and all the great advance :)

I now have a 6’ high pet enclosure. I have always had seniors who did not jump BUT Amy new boy Toby is only two and he can jump. That is why I added the two ft. To the height. …. He has a kitty door and he loves it and so do I… prior he was always asking me to play with him. Now I get a break….. remember I am an old gal. Lololo
Update. The six foot high fencing was working great to start until he figured how to climb it. So the fencing came down n he comes n goes as he wants until just before dark then the cat door is closed for the night. I am at the back of the property and there are no streets around us. I got him vaccinated and rabies shot… He goes out n comes back in all day long…

Well, there's 6 shelves. I'd say you'd need one more kitty to be maxed. I have three cats and it only becomes a problem when a bug enters the cage of terror. I will say that having this catio next to my back door is better than any bug light ever created. For some reason, all bugs feel like they need to "check in" at the catio before coming inside, but the are actually "checking out".
I purchased one from Amazon and somewhat happy with it. The only thing I did not like is that when I have to go in to clean the litter box I have to bend as the opening is not high enough. But on the plus side my son suggested he is going to build me one much wider and with a higher entrance opening.
I agree. I'm in my second year and both cats are always in it. They love it!

Wish I had stumbled across your review 5 years ago. I designed and built my own, and am this year looking at replacing parts. My biggest problem is I wanted a catio I could get into easily and stand up in. (I’m 5’10”). Also wanted a pitched roof b/c of snow and rain. I love your solution. Very elegant and easy. I just purchased a balcony style Omlet catio, I looked at wooden ones, but when I looked at the comments some said that the wooden ones do not hold up well in a northern climate. What I purchased seems sturdy and strong and has a skirt which attaches to the ground to deter other animals.There are raccoons, eagles, and other predators where I live, and I am keen to keep my kittie safe, while at the same time protecting wild birds and squirrels. At $499.00 plus tax, shipping and a 5% discount, I may be paying more than you did for yours, but Omlet guarantees the catio for two years, and I feel it will provide a better quality of life for my animals. The catio comes with clear instructions, both written, and on a CD as well as on their website. Omlet seems to be a very reputable company, so hopefully I made the right choice, the door is a Dutch-door, which would likely make it more convenient, and the roof has a slight pitch. They did suggest it is easer for two people to assemble, rather than one. I am going to plant catnip in a pot for them. The door can be placed at different locations along the side, but not at either end.
I’m considering putting one together. I was wondering if they make a non-toxic sealer?
We added wheels so we can move it in and out where we want it, but it is usually against the back door so the cats have free access in or out of the house.
