  • Using the examples of the Kimura (normally thought of as a rotation based submission), the armbar (typically an extension-based submission), and the biceps slicer (compression) and making each of them better by adding in all 3 elements.
In this video Rob Biernacki from The Submission Formula (www.grappleart...) shows you 3 critical steps that turbocharge any submisison, taking it from 'meh' to can't-tap-out-fast-enough. Please give it a try; I hope you enjoy this and find it useful in your own training.
    ABOUT THE SUBMISSION FORMULA
In The Submission Formula available at www.grappleart... you’ll get Rob Biernacki’s Six Step Formula for making your chokes, armlocks and leglocks much more powerful than they are now.
Making your submissions stronger is a matter of having your technical details correct, not spending more time weightlifting.
Using this step-by-step formula you’ll learn how destroy your opponent’s alignment, create full tension, maximise your force production, and refine your positioning to make it impossible for your opponent to escape or even resist your attacks.
These submission multiplying strategies apply to both gi and no gi grappling. And we get really granular, showing you exactly how to tweak all the high percentage submissions so they’ll instantly work on any opponent, no matter how big they are.

Stephan & Rob, This is exactly how I understand the efficiency of what we do. I try to apply biomechanics to fine tune what I’ve been taught and I pass it on to the students that want to know the “why” behind each movement. Thank you for the tutorial and keep producing these high quality videos.

I remember being taught to use the 'thumbs up' on the arm bar. This variation seems much stronger. Thank you!

Stephan, thanks a bunch, but you should consider to use a darker (grey, blue, black, etc.) background in your recording dojo, 'cause this white glare is killing us. Cheers!

Good video. These concepts of twisting, crushing and/or extending (removing slack) the body or target limb are also a big part of Catch wrestling.

    1. Rotate thumb away from head of opponent.
    2. Wedge knees away from head of opponent.
    3. Pull head of opponent with heel.
Everything is away from head of opponent. Nice technique.

I assume this principle works for blood chokes as well? They're usually a compression and then we add some kind of extension and rotation as well? Wish I could test it in training right now.
