Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture. With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

Your father always has a patience type of reaction, good quality to have.
He is one smart dude that is for sure. If something goes wrong I have a feeling he is anaylizing why and it won't happen again type of guy. He doesn't sit still, he is always working on something.
@@hawks2252 My hunch is he's also the " this isnt as bad as it could have been' type of guy. When we are young we tend to exaggerate the extent of issues but when we look back years later what at the time seemed like a major issue was in fact pretty minor in nature. We just learn to roll with the punches instead of getting all excited and bent out of shape over things.
So true
Panicking and over reacting solves nothing. Assess and move forward with the solution.
The world doesn't move on feelings or emotions. It only cares about what you can produce. Real men realize that the thing that you worry about only happens 10 percent of the time .the rest eventually works it self out
From Your videos You can tell what great relationship you have with your Dad you are very lucky I lost my Dad 29 years ago when I was 30 My Dad was a great guy !!!!
Yes, I lost my father too, 50yrs ago when I had just turned 6yrs old. A bad bad time in my life so it is great to see Nate with Zach, Zach is a lucky guy, what he learns he passes onto Onyx & Co.
Oh boo hoo

Hey Zack, anyone who has broken an arm or wrist and has it in a neck sling, can feel your pain (figuratively) when trying to work one handed. Appreciate what you do for all us viewers. Merry Chrisrmas to you , and all who are dear to you. That includes Anna and Digg. how is Jim doing? wish him the best too, please.
Jim is home and still recovering, but it sounds like he's over the hump now
I hope and pray you are ALL well and doing fine !! Onwards and Upwards, my friend !! Keep 'em coming Zach !!
Your dad is such an amazing man. God bless him . Tell him you love him every day Zak as when their gone you'll be sorry you didnt.
i feel your pain man, if its not the equipment its the bins and if its not the bins its something else. Its just a miserable Merry Go-Round
👍👍
Thanks for your videos. Always instructive.❤
Would love to just sit down and talk to your Dad. Calm, cool and collected, never rattled.
Regarding your shields: I run a lot of machinery in my shop (mill, lathe, etc) and I usually replace the screws & bolts with quick pins. That way they're so easy to get on/off, there's no excuse for me to leave them off. Safety first!
As long as a man designed it, a man will figure out a way to break it! The trampoline is a great idea, make sure you put pads around it on the concrete or you could end up taking you healthcare insurance for a test drive. Love the content Zach, Merry Christmas to your and your family!
Admit it. You are setting up the trampoline indoors so that you and your wife have someplace to tell the girls to go burn off some energy…. I have three precious little ones that get stir crazy in the winter too. Love the videos.
How is Jim doing, hope all is well. We all miss him❤

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Johnson Family
Merry Christmas to you and family and your grain bins !
Just a shout out to say thank you for sharing your corner of the world and Merry Christmas to every one on the farm.
4:16 IBC totes are awesome! I have two food grade totes that I use to supply water to my house because my well filled up with sand 2 years ago this month.
Use that Cyclone with your Air blower system to make a vacuum cleaner for the dryer area.
One of the neighbors here in Indiana farms 2200 acres and doesn't have one single bin.. hauls it all to town right from the field and then heads to Florida or Arizona for the winter.
I know a farmer in NW Iowa that is in the motor home pointed towards Phoenix before the combine engine is cool.
I mean can't really blame them right? Lol. I'm 34 so I still don't mind the cold winters here. But maybe when I'm 60 I'll have a different opinion and be the same way lol
That's what farmers in Norway do.
I haven't seen any farmer with their own bin.
And corn price goes up 2 bucks a bushel when he is in Arizona.......
Always that possibility I guess. This year it's went down 2 bucks since the start of harvest. Honestly I think year to year it's a wash with how expensive bins and bin maintenance is now days
We enjoy your videos as we are both from farms, many years ago. How about an update on Jim and how he is doing after his operation. Thanks Terry & Diane
Re the diesel gelling in the midst of winter cold--It brought back memories of oilpatch work I did in the early 80s, in the heavy oil area around Lloydminster, up in the Canadian praries. The oil was low-volume in production, from the wells, so it was stored in large storage bins, emptied by tanker trucks. The bins needed firetubes, to keep the crude oul from gelling, especially when the winter temperatures reached -40C..
I was with Cenalta on a big gas test double just a few years ahead of you.
Happy Holidays zach and family..
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you all. Keep those great videos coming ❤❤❤
I like the 3 generations taking part in the farm. Merry Christmas from east central Minnesota
I can’t imagine what your electric bill must be with you running all of the fans and the dryer. In the event that this is your last video before Christmas, I want to wish you, your Dad and your families a very blessed and Merry Christmas
If the girls get an indoor trampoline, will Onyx build a circle track in the new big shed? Haha
He is just waiting for dad to go on vacation. Onyx has the plans already drawn up. Onyx built some type of track for a mini bike maybe? He probably has a small oval as well for carts to practice on.
Onyx will go snowmobiling in the fields.
@@dubious6718 for sure WHEN there is snow. He's got to still practice circle track! He's going to the top in whichever racing series he wants to !
He's 2 busy with ana
Don't give him ideas! 😂
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and new year
As a Johnson from Wisconsin living in Juneau Alaska, I appreciate your content never disappointed
Thanks for another great video. It was interesting.
Lots of jobs after harvest to get done.
Stacking up your chemicals is one of them. Nice to get them organized. Making room for the trampoline inside is a good idea for the girls for the winter. Good idea.
Bins snd augers and belts are not nice to deal with. Been there done that myself. Oh my. Not nice. Glad you found the belts you needed. Always something either them.
Farmstead maintenance is always needed. Understand how you feel Zach.
Looks like you and your dad are getting things arranged for the winter. Needs to be done.
Thanks for everything Zach. You both take care and be safe.

Thanks to Becky for editing.

Great video. Enjoyed watching. 👍🏼
I enjoy your videos and your channel.
Interesting to see USA farm life.
Awesome video Zach. 🚜🚜🚜
Great video!
8:00 Just a suggestion on the belt-burning issue. If the motor is compatible with a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), it would allow you to control the motor rpm which "should" alleviate the leg from being over-driven. I would think the price of a couple sets of belts (not to mention the aggravation) would pay for the alteration. Regards.
We only have trouble with grain bins when its time to empty them;) lol Oh I guess the was that one the vents frosted up on and the fan raised the 48' roof a extra 18 inches...Lol
I can totally understand about grain bins.
Have a Merry Christmas
Love my exmark mower!
Finally signed up for AG1. I’m going to finally give it a shot
good looking Toter home in the shed
Glad I'm not the only one who has bin issues
Just love your videos. So entertaining and funny keep it up.
Q&A why do you have two ride-on mowers
Me too. I used to build them on a traveling crew. A highly dangerous job and a real pain living on the road doing it.
Thanks for sharing
Do you share your wife
Great video 👍👍
Gotta love conveyors!! Toodles!!
Thanks
Love the videos
I wish get lawnmower like that that will be cool 😎
Zachary I worked in a warehouse and we always put light stuff above heavy
Can you put a variable frequency drive on that motor. So that when it sees an increase in amp draw the auger motor slows down
I like the pulley cleaning. Good enough for government work!
Morning Zach
Zach- for the belt issues, time to build a stop with a metal bracket (maybe with an adjustment threaded rod)on the outside, near the lever for the door gates. Seen this on some bins that an old farmer had customized. Save the belts! At least increase belt life! 🚜
Better the belt than the motor.
Thanks for the show guys 🍻 🇦🇺
Do you like that shit show?
I just made chili. Now i want broccoli n cheese soup! Thanks Zack 😆.
Hey Zach as far as hearing protection goes, USE IT !! I amfinding this out . About 45 my ears started ringing continuously. 24/7. Annoying as hell ! Riding motorcycles, famrm eqpt. Tools, you name. We didn't know that much yet then, make it a habit for you and all the family. I noticed mine when it woke me up one night and only got mild a few times after. 17 years later and they say it won't get any better...
2:35 I spy what looks like a Renegade Motorcoach in the background. One of those is my dream RV.
Good luck at the Dome, Zach.

Hey I’ve been doing AG-1 for a year now. I started actually adding the super bears to it. And it’s actually really good. But I mix it pretty full. Shake really good. During a little then add that small ice and shake more then I get the straw and get it down. Sorry. I spill out that container in my beard so yep the straw it’s amazing and I can tell the difference for real.
Merry Christmas Johnson family December 21 th. here
You might see if you can find a bigger motor pulley for the take up auger to make it run a bit faster in order to keep up with the feed auger?
Season's Greetings ☃️❄️, Merry Christmas 🌲and New Year 🎉..(vacation? Calif, AZ, New Mexico, Texas, South -- > Alabama -- Florida, South Carolina... Puerto Rico?!...😊.)
Nice B-main win at the Dome!
I'd be tempted to install a centrifugal clutch and a chain to power the auger. I hate the smell of burnt belts.
As a old Mopar mechanic, verify the belt numbers not just the part number. When belts are fabricated, they have a run serial number, as each mold is a slightly different diameter. They're close +/_ a 1/4 - 3/8 inch, but don't equally share the load.
really chuckled. How many test takes did it get for your Dad to get his "good morning" take perfect. He was having a hard time not laughing.
When it comes to belts you should look in to link belt
I miss Catdog!
Yeah, I hear you. But cats do their own thing lol.
what has to be the most frustrating is that , that's new equipment and it isn't working correctly.
Zach, can you explain Ag Lime use and how often that you need to use it on the land your family farms? You've mentioned Ag Lime in the past and since you mentioned chemicals I thought it could be something you would use this year.
Lime is used to correct ph value of soil, it's highly recommended to test soil before putting fertiliser and other chemicals
When I drove tractor trailer, my job in the winter was to deliver Howell's Diesel Treatment. Do you adding some of that to your diesel tank would help you in the winter?
Some added thoughts here, the feed may not be the main issue. Drive belts were part of my career for 30 years. What I can tell you is that the notched V belts don't do what they claim they do (better grip). The theory is they wrap better. They do but they also have less surface. I always used straight V belt and had some good success with banded belts in bad drive situations. Another issue and a bigger one, sheave size relationship there is bad. You have a small sheave driving a much bigger sheave. It may be what fits in the space but you get to little wrap on too small a sheave, the means less contact area and a higher chance and sometimes a guarantee they slip and of course once they slip, that is all she wrote. It does not look like you have adjustable sheaves but those are also really bad, they are intended to be a trial to get the drive ratio right and then replaced with the correct sized fixed sheave. Cogged belts and drive can be a good answer though they are expensive and they need good alignment.
What about overload protection for the motor that could also protect the belts?
Always something with those grain bins
If you had a VFD on some of those auger motors you could speed them up and slow them down to match any condition.
Agreed!!!! We changed all of Ours to VFD!!!!! Omg what a Difference In Life !!!! I love having a reversing Auger !!!!!!!
Put a straight edge across the face of the upper and lower pulleys. They look to be misaligned the way the belts are cocked.
Good afternoon from Texas. Maybe someone needs to rethink grain bin design and the criteria that is used to spec out motors, augers and conveyors. Grain bins have been in use for over a 100 years, one would think that the bugs would have all been worked out of them by now. Maybe some kind of proximity switch on the augers so that it the auger does not turn so many time a minute then a signal is sent to the control panel that turns of the auger motor. I worked at a job that had a lot of conveyors and when I conveyor stopped then we had a big mess so we installed these these proximity switches on the tail pulley, since you have belts you could install these sheave that attach to the conveyor.
It amazing how a little water an corn can make things sticky
I feel like some WD-40 Dry protectant would have made those belts run at the optimum speed. Like A.I. Hopefully the Soukup Manufacturers warranty wasn't voided. J/K. Great video!
Please tell me the JD branded brake clean was a freebie from the local dealer. If not, congrats on being so successful that you can buy brake cleaner at JD! 🤪
Magnets and plastic covers might help with missing covers and access to one's you still have, just so you don't need tools and still keep debris and weather at bay on belts
I understand wanting the trampoline to be inside but do you think it's wise on a concrete floor? If they fall off it will be very unforgiving!
What was for supper?? We all would like to know when you say that. Especially us Northern England people as supper is an evening meal 😋
You could just replace the drive pulley (the one connected to the electric motor) on that unload with one that's a bit bigger and that would both slow down the unload auger so the dual-run could keep up and also add more torque.
Replacing the drive pulley with a larger one will increase auger speed, not decrease it. He would have to install a smaller drive pulley or a larger driven pulley to reduce speed. If it was my setup, I would install a pressure switch to detect corn building up in transition from unload auger to conveyor, wand wire that into the unload motor interlock circuit so it shuts unload off when corn builds up in transition. Need to check amp draw on both motors when un operation to see how close to full load the system is. It might be possible to speed up the CV taking corn away from the unload auger.
You should have some corn in a sheed with fluor storage,, then you like grainbins much better...
O man. there was a neighbor that had a 60x80 shed converted to store grain on the floor. I think he did it one year .. lol
Been there, done that. Not a fan lol
Trampoline on concrete? That's going to go well!
Little girl's trampoline next to Roundup--in a closed-door environment?!? Sure hope no leakage or seepage.
3:21 That wasnt the first time he said Good Morning. haha
great outro
Great video Zach and Becky. Can we get AG1 in Ontario?
can you put speed control on the bin motors so the augers run at the same speed
Probably need another size pulley on one of the augers to speed up and slow down. Just a guess
Y’all never stop fixing or upgrading something but that’s part of farming I guess. I’m not one but love how y’all are always outside and one with nature. Does ur family hunt Zach? Could u add that into one of ur videos? I bet y’all grow massive deer up there with all the fields of food. There’s no way I could live up there with all the snow. Texas weather is what I’m used too n would freeze up there. Half the year cold up there right? I have no idea that’s why I’m asking u. Thanks for the videos. Love how u raise ur kiddos too
