I like how the suitors say, "Time is fleeting. It's running out! Time to be the man of the house!" Like what Odysseus thought years prior when his dad died
Part of me wants to think that “I’d rather die than grow old without the best of you” is something that Penelope is actually expressing to the suitors. They think it means “I’d rather die than be unwed. But it has to be to the ‘best of all of you’” - only the ‘best’ suitor can have her type-deal. Yet what she really means is that she’d rather die than grow old without the best of Odysseus. Penelope is hella smart and manipulative and absolutely girlbossed her way through 20 years without a king by her side. Absolute queen. As witty and smart as Odysseus is, if not more. She had to navigate two decades of running the kingdom, probably at least half of which they were horny and impatient. Imagine having over 100 impatient guys impatiently wanting to rail you and managing to stay as calm and composed as Penelope does. I’d be losing my absolute mind. Pure dedication in that woman, put more respect on her name immediately.

Same 😭 It made me cry so much when I heard “Waiting…” because I knew it sounded familiar and came back here. Also, Odysseus’ Mom, Anticlea, and Penelope sound a little bit the same for me even though I knew Anticlea was voiced by Jay’s mom 😭 I love their voices so much but hearing the words makes me cry much harder
I love the choice of phrasing when she declares the challenge to the suitors. “Whoever can string my husband’s old bow…” She doesn’t call Odysseus her old husband or former husband, even as she declares the challenge to them. She’s stating that he is STILL her husband, even when the suitors believe he’s long dead. More than that, I love how much more vigorous she becomes when thinking the storm was a sign of change. Like, she’s spent twenty years dealing with impatient suitors, it’s going to wear her down sooner or later. But now that she has SOMETHING to suggest her husband is alive and on his way back to her it’s like she caught a breath of fresh air. I can just picture her straightening just a little more and raising her chin just a little bit more defiantly. She knows they’re in the endgame now and she’s determined to outlast the suitors. Like I don’t think she was defeated before this, but…tired definitely. And now it’s like she’s regained some of her youth again. Absolutely wonderful song I cannot wait for it to be released!

Glad this is here cuz I think the other vid got taken down. But this is already one of my favorite melodies in Epic, that “Oh could it be, some kiiiind of sign” is gorgeous- those alto vocals are so soothing

A group of suitors came in trying to win Penelope over but being quite frankly, domestically abusive cunts. Penelope had said she would choose a husband when she finished the shroud for her dying father- which she had been secretly picking, stalling the suitors for a good few years. The suitors eventually find out before the battle breaks out between them and Odysseus
