Compared to what a lot of Greek gods were like, calypso is very easy to sympathize with. What she did was pretty awful, but most of the gods motives were super petty for their actions. I think desperation for companionship is a lot better than every time Zeus couldn’t keep it in his pants

It is also unlikely he would have made it out alive himself if he didn't go through with it, or in the case of the musical, if she didnt show him sympathy.

She's been stuck isolated in the island for longer than the history of humanity. And after Oddy leaves. She's back to being alone.

She is stuck in a vicious cycle of heartbreak, and this line truly sums up her pain from bearing this curse placed upon her. ^ basically meaning: she must fall in love with any man who washes ashore on her island but if she does, they'll get a way to leave however, she has no choice but to fall in love with them, because of the curse hot damn greek mythology went hard

Personally, I don't exactly like how they tried to make calipso sympathetic. In the original story, Odessias kept rejecting her but she still slept with him every night, which just to be clear, means she kept graping him every night for seven years. I understand she is a goddess who lived in a world where indulging in this kind of behavior was not seen as a big deal, but there should be no expectation placed on her victim to forgive her or let her down gently. He is still a man who went through hell to get back to his wife and remained faithful to her, despite getting a vague prophecy about her finding another man from Tiresias mind you, meaning this type of intimacy is something sacred to him. Yet this woman completely ignored his wants and his pleading for her to stop. If it's honestly that hard to sympathize with the victim here just switch the genders. If a male god forced himself on a mortal woman for seven years because he "loved" her despite her telling him no and being married and trying for over a decade at this point to get back home to her husband and son, how would that look?
I mean, EPIC isnt a 1:1 retelling of The Odyssey. Jorge probably took that aspect out- This Calypso alluded to it but she probably tried to make him comfrotable and kept distance. Yeah yeah, acknowledge to source material and all that but like stated, EPIC isnt a 1:1 retelling.

As much as I wanna sympathize with calypso’s story I just cannot knowing she basically tried to force Odysseus to stay and love her, even bribing him with immortality from what I’ve seen. The guy who showed me this musical friendzoned me recently and I don't know what to do. I am 10 billion percent sure he cares about me too but he is going through a hard time right now in his life and I think the only thing I can do for him is be there as a friend. I especially love how her introduction was somewhat really creepy and her exit is this emotional.

Unlikely since "Goddesses can't die." A line Calypso said in the last song. Also even if she wasn't a goddess the island she lives on makes everyone on it immortal so she couldn't kill herself even if she tried.

Again, sorry that the audio at 2:23 drops in quality - the clearest audio I could find when splicing was from the Goodspeed Festival, which had an open environment. Personally, I don't exactly like how they tried to make calipso sympathetic. In the original story, Odessias kept rejecting her but she still slept with him every night, which just to be clear, means she kept graping him every night for seven years. I understand she is a goddess who lived in a world where indulging in this kind of behavior was not seen as a big deal, but there should be no expectation placed on her victim to forgive her or let her down gently. He is still a man who went through hell to get back to his wife and remained faithful to her, despite getting a vague prophecy about her finding another man from Tiresias mind you, meaning this type of intimacy is something sacred to him. Yet this woman completely ignored his wants and his pleading for her to stop. If it's honestly that hard to sympathize with the victim here just switch the genders. If a male god forced himself on a mortal woman for seven years because he "loved" her despite her telling him no and being married and trying for over a decade at this point to get back home to her husband and son, how would that look?

I know this is a month old but Jorge probably removed that aspect of the story (Her graping Ody) like he did with Circe
I mean, EPIC isnt a 1:1 retelling of The Odyssey. Jorge probably took that aspect out- This Calypso alluded to it but she probably tried to make him comfrotable and kept distance.

I mean, rape I get real isn't talked about much and if it is it's not really portrayed as it should be. But this musical already alludes to rape twice (zeus and antinous kinda umplying raping a woman in their songs) so it doesn't really shy away from that subject matter, so, why not also address what Odessias went through? That's what I don't get.

As much as I wanna sympathize with calypso’s story I just cannot knowing she basically tried to force Odysseus to stay and love her, even bribing him with immortality from what I’ve seen.
Knowing all that makes the song sound really manipulative, like she’s still trying to convince him to stay despite knowing he’s married and loves his wife very much.
She doesn't in EPIC.

The guy who showed me this musical friendzoned me recently and I don't know what to do. I am 10 billion percent sure he cares about me too but he is going through a hard time right now in his life and I think the only thing I can do for him is be there as a friend.
