I sadly missed the chance to see the Rolling Stones before they were famous. I was 15 and my sister was 18. She had been following them for some time on the local scene around Guildford and Richmond, and invited me go with her to see them. It was to be my first outing on the "scene" so I had to be dressed fashionably. I had a collarless shirt in RAF blue and blue jeans which were both fashionable at the time. Then I looked at my feet and the only shoes I had were my school Oxfords!! Of course I couldn't be seen on the "scene" dressed like that, so I never went and I never got to see the Stones! Would have been brilliant and something to tell my grandchildren about! But there you go. Life is full of missed chances!

They lipsynced that performance (that was a standard thing for the news services) for this promo film. The actual performance that night had 50 policeman in front of the stage keeping girls from charging in. While standing behind one of the policeman, Mick was grabbed by the legs by one girl and pulled into the pit in front of the stage and landed flat on his back. Mick quickly got back up on the stage, while the girl yelled out "I touched him!" Yes, it was that manic! (This was from Bill Wyman's book "Stone Alone."

Wow, great footage. A few observations :- 1) What a corny set up. Hitch-hikers? 2) How young the audience was - mostly early teens 3) Jagger's moves are so mannered 4) Of all the Stones Keith Richards' appearance has changed the most 5) How sad Brian Jones had such a short life.
superb stuff, timeless, and a true joy to behold for us all. Just behind The Beatles then and everyone always will be. But great find truly is and so clear in both picture and sound
Yes asaloutley but by the late 60s the roling stones surpass the Beatles as the greatest band ,especially with mick Taylor stones were awesome in concert ,stones raw blues rock ,and mick stage present were amazing in concert.
It's because back then no one really experienced a pop band like that before, it was really one of the first times where it was accepted by the mainstream to just be wild and loud and rambunctious.
