- Hunting the Last Wild Places: Yellowstone Country is the second film in our series on hunting in the last wild places in America. In this film, we tell a story through a backcountry, backpack hunt deep into the wilderness about what it means to hunt in a landscape that was quite literally the hunting grounds for people going back thousands of years. It is a place rich in human, wildlife and conservation history. It was market hunting in Yellowstone in the 1800's that spawned the modern day system of protected public lands we have in the United States, and it is a story of success that today we can still hunt this wild landscape and experience what it was like hundreds of years ago.
Follow us along on our journey as we archery hunt rutting bull elk in this wild landscape and experience what it is like to hunt in this iconic American landscape.

Public Lands are a uniquely American heritage and right. Exercise yourself and your rights; Protect Public Lands from short-sighted sell-off schemes in the name of freedom, or states' rights.

This is probably the most beautiful place on earth. I lived a half mile from the beach in la jolla for a few years , and I thought that was the most beautiful place, but this is just awe inpiring.

Best camp and secure your game with a portable electric bear fence. At. 2.4 lbs, it’s small kit that brings huge peace of mind.
Nice film, hunting big public land country is tough. You would think there would be big bulls on every ridge, but not so.
For sure. Sometimes there are elk everywhere and sometimes not so much...the way it is on public land.

Great documentation of the adventure ....TRUE hunting team, indifference to who is the shooter..... 18:30 amazing bear footage and discussion...Was all the grizzly footage captured during the hunt?..... . What was it REALLY like hunting in grizzly Country??!..... And did that impact your approach?...... As always with your films; tremendous commentary, footage, history, education and awe inspiring story - well done!
Thabks for the kind words! Hard to explain what it's like exactly, but just need to be on your toes all the time. For us it was just about not being complacent, but it didnt change anything about where we went or how we hunted. The biggest thing for us was having bear spray on us at all times and being aware a bear could be anywhere. In fact, we found out later a hunter killed a grizzly close to where we were camped after we left.

What state was this? Also do you guys edit your own videos or do you 3rd party it out? If you do your own how did you learn? I just bought a new MacBook and Adobe premier pro and just now starting to teach myself I hope to produce something like this soon!
Hey David, we do everything in house. Our mastermind in the editing bay is Jason, and he has formal editing training as well as a lot of practice. You can absolutely learn to do a lot without any formal training though. Good luck with your edits!

Ben, there were elk around for sure, they were just holed up and pretty quiet most of the time.
@@Argali I'm no biologist but I was just wondering, when things are left alone and all the apex predators are around like wolves, grizzlies, and of course cougars, if the "carrying capacity" (or whatever you want to call it) for elk is much lower then when those predators are "managed" down or missing from the area. We're just getting a lot of wolves in Oregon and I don't think we're ever going to manage them down. I'm wondering what the end-game is here in Oregon. It's still fun to be out there. I just want there to be game and to have a chance.
@@bent7406 it's a great question and we're in the same boat as you. We're not biologists either so tough for us to answer with anything other than our personal experience. We have hunted in a number of different states/places with wolves and bears (as well as cougars) and a lot of elk, but those are also places where predators are managed to some degree. That said, that's just been our experience and isn't gospel. It's a balancing act that needs to take into account the needs of human hunters too. Hopefully sanity rules the day with our neighbors to the west in Oregon.
Imagine walking in a trailhead, hearing voices, rounding the corner to see two adult males filming each other going "Uhhh I'm a Sagittarius and I like to mingle with elk". My dog has more testosterone in one leg than these two beginners combined, and she's a female.
How far back were you guys at the farthest point of the journey?
Around 9 or 10 miles
Where outside the national park was this located?
Alec, cant say exactly but we were a long ways from the park proper.👍

Argali it looks spectacular. I’m rather frustrated because i live across the pond so can’t experience these amazing places but am praying one day i can move over and do this! Just incredible. And no worries also, had me hooked for the whole time and can’t wait to see the films in future!
Inspiring. Fairly new resident in Wyoming. Will hunt with a resident tag fall of '22. Have put in for any elk as first choice and cow as second choice in a unit 10 miles from the park boundary. At 58 years old, my days climbing slopes are getting fewer. This year will be the first season hunting Wyoming's vast lands. If I don't draw a tag, the general season tag will still be a welcomed gift. Enjoyed the stories you guys share. Keep 'em coming.
More bears than elk?
There were definitely more elk. But there were defintiely some bears around.
