Thank you Steve. Absolutely beautiful camera work there. The last time I met up with my very good old friend Alan in Malta, we went to villa Bighi on a Sunday afternoon. There was a kind of science museum up there, mainly for kids, but we enjoyed it too. And there was a really good section about the hospital, with moving recorded voice testimonies, in English and Maltese, of former nursing staff. The great nursing staff and doctors there helped thousands of injured British soldiers and seamen from the Crimean war up to WWII. It really is worth a visit. It is very special for me, because my friend Alan (Captain Alan Everett) died suddenly just six weeks later. His ashes were dispersed at sea (fittingly for a dedicated life-long seaman) in the Gozo channel.
Sounds great Thanks for the info
Steve, such a beautiful area, one of my favourites in Malta to walk
It really is! One of the best bays in Malta and it transformation really made a difference
Mary 🇦🇺🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️ thanks for update, lovely sea views , always learning something new about Malta with u. Poor lady had her purse stolen, 3 of us had our bags taken from car while I was putting flowers on my mums grave, at the cemetery, anyway thanks again Steve. 💕💕🇲🇹💕💕🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️👍👍👍
You are so welcome Mary
Another good Video Steve, going back to birds in cages I can remember getting on a 'proper' green and white Maltese bus many years ago and the driver had about 5 bird cages hanging up in the bus complete with Birds. Definitely a Maltese tradition.
Yes its been going on or years
Very interesting video of kalkara thank you Steve ❤️
Thanks Mary, its a very interesting place
Lovely video, my mom used to work at the hospital and used to swim there out to a pontoon. The baths were used as showers in the 60s.
Thats a great place and was trying to get back for the festa
My home town , thanks Steve ❤ for the mention
Welcome, Do you know anything about the tunnel ??
@@EnglishmaninMalta Yes. It was designed by Francesco Liogacano in 1938
Nice view injoy watching..
Thank you! 🤗
Steve the thermal baths were used by the British. They were a sort of extension of the Hospital in Bighi (the lift used to get you to the military hospital). I was surprised you did not mention this hospital during your video - didn't you know about it. I shall try and give a message to the heritage Minister about the shocking state of the thermal baths. Can't see why nothing has been done to restore them for so many years. Well done Steve
Thanks for watching, Yes of course I know about Bighi Hospital, but I did know the history 100% , so lately I say nothing cuz so many love to find fault with what I say ! Really the video was about Kalkara update works and I just stumbled into that area, and I actually told people to watch pierres for more info
@@EnglishmaninMalta Finding fault with what people say is a hobby here in Malta with many people. You know Steve, can't understand how you say you stumbled on the place. I mean, I know the video was an update on the work in Kalkara but the work is on the other side of the bay, But anyway if you say so, it's no problem. I have just written to Heritage Malta about the total abandonment of the baths. Will wait to see if anything happens although i doubt it very much.
❤❤❤
Thanks
Thanks again Steve, love looking at different towns around Malta 😊
Hey Lyn, this looks really special and as a long history
Hi Steve ...great to see you out exploring and wandering again...the nice weather makes it more pleasant for you keep going !!
Regards. Peter
Its just getting the time, But Malta as so much to offer
BEAUTIFUL AND VISITOR FRIENDLY KALKARA ⛵ 🎣 🌊 ☀
It's looking better but still peaceful. Never heard of "Pappagal" (parrot fish) 🎣.
Lovely and interesting walk.
THANKS Steve 🚶 🎥 👏.
Cheers 👍 🇲🇹 ♥ 🇪🇺 ™
Thanks John, try and go back maybe festa
@@EnglishmaninMalta Actually Steve, I've just read that "Parrot Fish" is also called MARZPAN in Maltese. It's very good to eat but in moderation, because it contains toxins 😮.
Cheers 👍 🇲🇹 ♥ 🇪🇺 ™
Interesting walk Steve,so I am now researching Kalkara and thermal baths.Thanks.😊😊👍
Very interesting place I dont much about them
You be careful. We need you to do more videos.
Yes, I tell people to wear good shoes and I turn up with sandals 👍🤣🤣 defo A over T territory
Nice video Steve, I like that part of harbour, and yes you are right there is so much more to see on the Island but you need to get away from the Sliema area. One place I always wanted to see was Fort Ricasoli but it was always closed to the public when ever I had visited 🙂🙂one day 👍👍👍👍cheers
I do encourage people to get out and about when possible, the same as Maltese that say been to England and never go out of London
Enjoyed that Steve once you got away from the construction work very interesting walk it will be a nice place to visit when it's finished 😊👍
Hey David, yes it was a bit ugly ..But many people asked for an update, Thanks for your comment
Hi Steve l enjoy watching your videos. from Sydney hope you visit zabbar my home town .
Been a few times videos of church, walking, and museum etc and Christmas lights
Very nice and interesting video. Not been to Kalkara thanks
easy walk from Birgu ,
Hahaha :) Thank you . I have been waiting for this 😃😃
Hoipe you enjoyed it ?? Not sure if I will be in Mlata for the festa ...Thinking about it ?
@@EnglishmaninMalta Actually, it was sad to saw this rubbish situation of Malta. getting worse... I will try to visit anyway.
in Kalkara there is a green project here
Where ?
Great video Steve. Interesting seeing all the upside down canons. I went to Gibraltar in April and the tour guide said that they have so many they’ve dropped them into the sea. But they’ve GPS tagged them in case they’re needed again. Hopefully not 😮. Thanks Steve
Oh Malta also there are so many 8n the sea around Malta
Great video Steve! 😃 Thank you for the update 👍🏼 I hope the work is all complete by July like the man said. We are over in August so would be fab if it’s all done 😁
Looking at it Rachel, I think not far to go, I think it will look great, so easy to walk from Birgu
Thank you steve. This was a very interesting video. I'm wondering how many Maltese know about those buildings from the knights? Is there a link to Pierre's site?.
Oh I forgot ... pierres video ruclips.net/video/QXfW2I1Utgw/видео.html
@@EnglishmaninMalta Thanks Steve ❤
There is plenty of space to park your wee boat when you get one 😁
No the multi- million ones are around the corner 👍😋🤣
Interesting walk Steve, but really thought you knew better by now not to wander around Malta in saddles or flip-flops....😂
You know me, ! can't turn down an adventure, Firstly I thought the work would be finished.....And then came the adventure not to be missed !!
@@EnglishmaninMalta something finished in Malta......🤔 like when!
@@george-cp9bx That fisherman said it plan to be ready for the kalkara festa mid-july,
@@george-cp9bx Is it me or do you also find Steve's replies vague? I asked him why he decided on Malta over Spain and his answer was something about 1979. That's not an unambiguous answer. It's cryptic.
IS that hospital Haunted. That Hospital looks very old.
Royal Naval Hospital Bighi, Seen lots of action and deaths ! I am guessing if you believe that sort of thing there would be something said about it, But i have not heard anything
You’re English Steve, why aren’t you wearing socks with your sandals 😂
Now thats true !! lol 😂
Why did you choose Malta and not Spain? Just curious
If you mean to live ? I got married in 79
@@EnglishmaninMalta Why did you choose Malta to live instead of Spain? I don't understand your vague answer.
I’m guessing Malta was the better option, has a lot to offer and welcomes many foreigners.
@@bernadettet9931 I got captured by a girl....Married! End of story 👍🤣🤣
@@bernadettet9931 Spain is a larger country though with similar appeal to Malta. That's why I was curious why he chose Malta. He gave a very evasive answer though. Spain and Portugal so far are my favorite countries in Europe. I still haven't been to Malta but it's definitely on my list. Obviously everyone does their own dialogue but Steve's way of answering questions have always been vague to be. I like crystal clear answers but I also realize I can't do other people's dialogue and not everyone has the ability to be unambiguous as I am.
I'd bet a lot that very few, if any, of the thieves are Maltese. Before the pestilence of the open-border EU, crime was extremely rare in Malta.
Oh dont worry Paul we have a few bad ones here !!
For your benefit Steve, you said "Taz-zoppa" which refers to a broken leg but the Maltese fisherman corrected you saying "alyotta" meaning fish soup."Pappagal" is a parrot spoken by the other guy who caught the small fish was having you on, because he knew you are a typical Englishman.
Thanks for the info, Oh I said tas-soppa soup ! Just my bad pronunciation
