    Daniel Smith's Indanthrone blue is a favourite of mine, and one of the first paints I got from them. Love the Newton's Cradle for momentum! All of the paintings are lovely, and the welding one is really awesome!

      Yes, isn't that such a beautiful color? I think I have it in the half-pans that Diane gave me, which makes me really happy all over again, lol. Newton's Cradle! I couldn't think of the name. Thank you!

    Beautiful paintings. They all great. I kind of do watercolour month. I simply paint one watercolour every day, not bothering with prompts . Does diluted gouache counts ? Have a great weekend. V.

    Hi miranda, I've been painting every day since first lockdown, I needed something to focus on as I'm on my own. When I look back I can't believe how much I've improved and learnt. You don't see it daily or weekly onlycwhen you look back. Loved all your paintings you are so talented and those balls, amazing!!!!

    • @MirandaWatsonArt
      @MirandaWatsonArt  3 года назад +1

      That's really incredible that you've been painting every day. It's a huge commitment, but one that I think we would all eventually get used to over time. I'm glad you mentioned that you don't really see the progress until you actually look back at some of your old paintings; thank you! That helps keep things in perspective. Hugs!

    I really like this video. Hope you'll do some more dot card comparison. And, in case I haven't mentioned it before, you've got mad (as in awesome) painting skills.
    Question: if you had to choose between M. Graham and Qor, which one would you prefer? Thanks.

    • @MirandaWatsonArt
      @MirandaWatsonArt  3 года назад +3

      Thanks, Eileen! Yes, I'll be scheduling more dot card paintings in, and I'm hoping to do one each month (since it's several paintings, it takes a while). It was so fun! As for your question, I'm unable to answer it because I've never had the pleasure of painting with M. Graham paints before. Maybe some day! Have a great weekend!

      Thanks, Sheri! I plan on doing many more in the future, but my to-do-list is quite long, so I'm not sure when the next one will be - hopefully soon! My favorite was QoR followed my Mission Gold. My favorite painting was the welding one. I do have a Cobalt Violet one after this (not sure if you've seen that one yet?) but that is all so far Thanks for being here! 🙂

    Another great comparison, my favorite paintings were your spatter and breathe. I definitely think you should paint more welders in other colors! None of the brands particularly stood out to me in either direction. I bought M. Graham version based on Oto’s episode so it was nice to see you using the other brands.

    Hi Miranda, loved your video if you had to choose one brand, which would it be, I’m wanting to upgrade my paints and getting very overwhelmed, I loved your video and I would like to try and stick to one brand if possible, so I was hoping you could give me your thoughts and feedback from your experience

    • @MirandaWatsonArt

      I would personally choose either QoR or Rosa Gallery. But if they are too expensive, Mission Gold is also a great option. 👍

  • @LeesChannel
    @LeesChannel 3 года назад +2

    Hey there, I was wondering if you could summarize your thoughts on the paints and which you felt did well, and which you felt were weaker? In the video it was at times confusing if you were saying the paint was one of your favorites or the painting. The welding painting for example (which was a really cool concept and execution by the way,) you referred to as the Schmincke and said it was your favorite, making it unclear if it was the paint or painting that you were pleased with (or both!) It would be nice in the future if you could give the paints a ranking in the end to better understand how you felt they compared.

      Oh, that's a very good point, thank you for pointing that out. When I get home this Tuesday, I'll pull out that sketchbook, re-watch my video and let you know. I will also make sure I'm very clear about it in my future videos. Thank you for improving my channel!

    Some brands use honey as part of their formula which causes them to be more easily rewetable and sticky, like sennelier, and I think M. Graham and Da Vinci both use honey, so do white knights, but in my opinion from using both sennelier and M. Graham over this past few months, I think M. Graham turned out to have a more gooey? Feel when using it, maybe due to different honey, theirs maybe Black berry honey?, but da vinci and M. Graham may use more honey, or something else compared to sennelier. Might be why it feels familiar yet not, also I think honey helps with the dispersion of paint in water. I think it helps with keeping out mold too. Ain't sure tho 🤔.

    • @MirandaWatsonArt
      @MirandaWatsonArt  3 года назад +2

      Okay, I figured it had to be something along those lines, and since I only have Sennelier paints out of that list, it makes sense. Thank you!

    Indanthrone blue is one of my favourites blues... I almost collect them :P I like them all but of course, there is always some favourite ones ;) I love Dark Blue from Schmincke, Sennelier, Holbein Royal Blue, White Nights and Rosa Gallery. Daniel Smith is too red shade for me ( I have it bbut I don't use it) and I don't have that QoR colour but I just love it too!. That will be my next one for sure ;) Thanks for this video :)

      Oh good, I'm glad it was helpful! Yes, I definitely use reference photos. If it's in my sketchbook, then I'll use pictures straight from Google sometimes, but I usually try to find something on Pixabay (something with no copyright, in other words). I would really prefer to use my own pictures, and I'm starting to find some that will make good references, but I often don't have what I need, and I go online for those. Hope that helps!

    My favorite is the welding one also. Spent 14 years as the purchasing agent for a steel fab/erection shop.I should send you the pic of me dangling in a basket 60' feet in the air. #2 the airplane. For my 50th birthday I went up in an open cockpit biplane. Banking was like leaning a street bike into a curve on steroids. You need to try it!

    I love this idea for comparing Oto's dot cards!
    I know that W&N says not to dry their paints in pans. I just had one and I thought it dried in the pan and rewet great, but when I came back to the palette 6 months later it doesn't rewet as well anymore. Perhaps that was the case with yours...

    • @MirandaWatsonArt
      @MirandaWatsonArt  2 года назад +1

      It's a fun way to use them. :-) Yes, I would agree; I think the more dried out they get over time, the worse it is, and mine are pretty old.

    • @MirandaWatsonArt

      Yes, from QoR directly. I received mine during World Watercolor Month last year for free. They sometimes rub promotions like that during July. This year was watercolor ground. But it should be available on their website.
