This was the ultimate ship in that first Star Fleet Battles game for the "Federalies". Getting command of one was bitter - sweet. You had the ultimate ship the Federation could muster, but you were also that much closer to retirement.
The Yamato Battleship is a beast in Klingon Academy. It’s 2 Assault Phasers can do massive damage on heavy battlecruisers, and higher types. On cruisers and smaller types, it can be a one shot kill.
Back in the early 1980s, there was a company called FASA that had the license to make the Star Trek table-top RPG/wargame, and if I remember correctly, there was at least 1 ship miniature that looked kind of like this and had the stats for a battleship.
I also love KA because its story fixed the plot of ST6 how the the lost of one moon could cripple an Empire as powerful as the Klingon Empire of late 23rd Century. Because of the actions of Klingon Civil War...well both of them started by the House of G'Iogh and that Fek'lhr dropping that was Melkor the Usurper. Who in act of spite out of Klingon mythology destroyed the Empire chief energy and resource mining/production system Tal'lhnor Gates. That was after his plot to give to the Romulans in exchange for their help in overthrowing the Empire and installing him as Emperor. Yet the Romulans even after the destruction of the Gates invaded the Qo'noS system in a bid to support Melkor final attempt to capture the throne. Beginning the centuries of Blood Feud between the two races.
Words cannot express my excitement at seeing this class. There was a chat room RPG on AOL back in the early 2000's and I was a marine Colonel in command of a Yamato class.
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios i turned on RUclips to find something for the kids to watch and when I saw the Yamato class video I made several primitive primate noises that indicated excitement to my children. They were confused as they are very small and do not yet share my knowledge of the Trek-verse, but I was instantly brought back to my teen years, playing a Klingon Human Hybrid, serving as a Colonel in the SFMC. The Iwo had been restructured with boarding pods and hover tanks cause we had no idea what a Hopper was at the time, and phaser turret equipped LAV-25 style hover tanks with a 4 man fire team in each seemed to make the most sense to us at the time, lol
Awesome video and cool design. I bet the reason why Starfleet found the Orgainian homeworld deserted and no one came when they asked for their help because THEY knew the two powers would put asaide their differences and be friends and allies. I think the only time the Orgainians would have intervened if they were to the point of annihilating each other.
Dude....thank you SOOO much for finally making this video. Heh, i know i was probably one of the louder voices for this class. It was my favorite class from Starfleet Command. And youre also the first one to really do this ship justice. Youre the best.
🖖😎👍Very cool and very nicely greatly wonderfully well done and very nicely informatively explained and executed in every detail way shape and format provided on the Yamato Class Heavy Battle Ship / Aircraft Carrier, aka Starfleets version of a Battlestar!; Any ways a job very nicely fabulously well done indeed Sir!👌.
Something you said in the video got me thinking, and along with the long tradition of kit bashing new ships from old parts, both by fan and studio. Starfleet as you mentioned, normally does not have Warships. However, ships like Yamato-class gets built for components and systems from other ship classes. And that the engineers keep designing and designing. Its almost like they design the ultimate weapon but produce it in sections and then use those designs for ships that would get approved. Then if a war does break out. those readymade ship components an be assembled into the Warship they were designing all along. For lack of a better term. Starfleet is a LEGO fleet. Systems from different classes, types and sometimes eras remain compatible with each other. What would a good term for that be? If that's true, that would be a canon reason kit bashes happen, instead of slap something together for a background shot :o)
Incredible. Thank you for doing a video on this, Klingon Academy's greatest Federation starship. The Yamato has been a fave of mine for years; and I've even pondered trying to kitbash a few ship models to try to make a decent one.
I have a version of this ship for star Trek Armada II. It has a Constitution refit style saucers section though with 4 phaser emitters at all 6 hard points on the saucer section and a different roll bar from the Miranda class.
The Lexington-Class Command Cruiser from KA was also a pretty cool design. It was kinda like a Sovereign-class and Ambassador-class rolled into one. Think and Ambassador-class that's been stretched length-wise, and squashed vertically. If I remember correctly, the neck pieces between the saucer and secondary hulls were split and had a V-shape. The nacelles were like a Constitution-refit, but more tapered and had blue internal areas (I think). The saucer was like a slick Excelsior saucer.
As soon as I saw this design, my mind immediately went to a old, printed series of books. Jackill's StarFleet Reference Guides 1-3. Does anyone here remember those? Gather around childrens, before the Internet, ship blueprints/schematics were printed. Really. I still have them. This design gave me a reason to pull them out again. Conventions and mail-order were great places to get such things. The books were collections of known designs, some inspired designs and, kitbashing. Some of the kitbashing worked, most didn't. The Yamato Class looks like it could have come out of those books. Taking existing components and assembling them differently. And somehow...this one works.
I never played Starfleet Command but I would love to see more of these videos from the game Star Trek Legacy, including some from the various modpacks for the game.

Starfleet Command II was a banger of a game. Would've been interesting to see the beta canon races and ships make their way into a series, especially theYamato

So much that I hope and pray they bring her and the Missouri to Star Trek Online in which I'd proudly fly both of them. Might I suggest/request a video like this on the Ulysses and Missouri Classes?
It's possible that such starships may have been built around the time of the undiscovered country but we're moth balled after the first khitomer accords.
Would LOVE to see a tv series that featured this ship and this era . ....kind of the extreme opposite of Starfleet thinking in the next century . when bigger was not always better with game changing Defiant Class
Interesting as I was playing KA the other evening, pitched two Yamatos and a Ulysses dreadnought vs a single Galaxy Class ship that somehow found itself in the 23rd century ... if it wasn't for firing those assault phasers at a safe distance ... the Galaxy class would have clapped all 3 of us ...
Not my favorite design of those game, but its a solid one. Much prefer the Missouri class, which was the ingame predecessors to this class and was design to be a tank.
Okay, to build this beast you would need 2x Excelsior, 2x Enterprise A, 2x Reliant and some scratch building... expensive and the scale could be a problem🤔
You're probably thinking the Proxima class, which does have a similar layout. The Yamato's originally from the Starfleet Command games and Klingon Academy.
