      There is no such thing as "Proper Round Nacelles" Actually Canon supports the Idea that the Round Nacelles of the Connie Class are the unusual design element of the time, as it's one of the ONLY classes seen in that time with them, and also, Starfleet goes back to the Box Design in TMP...

      @@Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent That's a HUGE assumption on your part, with NOTHING in canon to support that idea what so ever... Also, your theory if true, could travel both way, as in DSC times the Feds were expanding in to Deep Space, and so Boxy Nacelles it is as practicality was preferred over looks ;) :P

    When the ship was moved from the front line I suppose that due to the large hangar space it could easily be reclassified as a "red shirt" transporter or an evacuation ship. Also I see it in simple cargo role for peaceful frontier worlds.

  • @franksmedley8619
    @franksmedley8619 3 года назад +5

    As I have said for decades, four nacelles is simply better than two. More flexibility, more redundancy, and more efficient. My only real dislike about the overall design is the 'cut outs' of the saucer section. There is no real reason for them, and they break up the overall 'look' of the saucer in general. Also, they complicate the layout of the ship's corridors and turbolift system. The additional 'cube-age' gained would be used for additional systems, redundant systems, and other back ups, in addition to making the ship 'look' better.
    For it's time period, just before the Constitution Class, a Warp 6 ship was a 'must have' for Star Fleet. The ability to take more combat damage overall, before being driven out of combat due to degradation of the ship's systems made the Nimitz Class a very good choice.

    • @brianadeva4560

    I know this has been a long time coming, but finally got round to reviewing your video.
    While I personallly dislike the Discovery, some of the ships of the era before it jumped to the future were really interesting, the Nimitz class, Shepard class, Walker Class, and of course the constitution class, are all my favourites, I have all these ships except the constitution class of this era in STO but there are some amazing ships besides that one so its not really one I miss, and besides, the Walker class you can get from the go is awesome...
    The Nimitz class, I thought would be next in line after the Cardenas class personally, just basing it on size, but I suppose it is more advanced with the ship being a tad smaller and technology being more efficiently utilised and not require as much space (unless they have those horrid empty spaces for turbolift rides).
    I am really glad the Nimitz was fitted with sustained phaser beam banks, and not the horrid pew pew pew ones, i really hated those, I like my ships to have beams, not intermittent bolts, to me its so not Starfleet standard.
    Yes in the Enterprise pilot, the NX-01 had pulse phaser cannons I think but later had the sustained beams, so I am really glad the Nimitz was fitted with the better weapons, it is a shame we never got to see it in action though.
    The Nmitz didnt have the sort of main reception desk for a transporter room, as seen at 7:16 definitely making the space aboard more efficient as technology developed and by that time the lateral systems were outdated, I think that was mentioned as well in one of the episodes, I can't recall.
    The Holographic systems, well nobody can argue about those as didn't the constitution class have holo-simulators aboard? I am sure it is in the ship schematics somewhere.
    Wasn't it in the Enterprise finale where Reed mentions about the new warp 7 engines? surely he Nimitz being much later on from the Enterprise era would have had at least warp 7 as a maximum warp, or am I wrong?
    The Nimitz class is a wonderful looking ship, and one I am pround to have in my ship collection on STO, it is a puty it isnt a carrier, given he large shuttlebay, but we can't have everything can we?
    Great video, glad I finally got round to reviewing it, keep up the great work and the beta canon series

    I think it makes more sense for this era of ships to be built around the 2190s-2200s. That way the USS Kelvin era ships, which are cannon since they were built before the Narada split the timeline, would have been built around 2220s-2230s, then that would place the Constitution class era would be in 2250s.
    This makes more sense seeing how Starfleet seems to redesign it's ships about every 20-30 years. The Discovery and Kelvin era ships would fit perfectly between the NX-01 Enterprise era in the 2160s, filling the gap with Discovery era in the 2190s, Kelvin era in the 2220s, Original series Constitution era in the 2250s, Constitution Refit era in the 2270s, Excelsior class era in the 2290s, Ambassador class era in the 2320s, Galaxy Class era in the 2350s, Sovereign Class era in the 2370s, and finally Inquiry Class era in the 2390s.

    Another interesting low profile Disco era design that I appreciate. My main complaint with that era design though is how you don't see much in terms of design lineage connecting Enterprise to TOS, or beyond. You see similar design profiles but not much of an evolutionary reason for how they got from those 2 points. They just jumped from that low profile look to suddenly adding in a larger engineering hull.

    • @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics
      @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics  3 года назад

      Thank you so much! Though, I have the opposite opinion, seeing a clear lineage of starships branching from the NX Class... And since we havent really seen any other true Connie Style starships through out TOS, and given Kirks comments in Tomorrow is Yesterday, I tend to view the Connie Style as the exception, the special case, rather then the rule of the time 🙂

    I like most of Disco's ship designs so far.. when we can see them... My biggest grip is that I do not at all like the hull discoloration. The blocky shapes, stunted profiles, and a general lack of secondary hulls are very clear and simple visual cues that this predates the Connies. The discoloration does not add to that feeling, instead, due to the shows lighting and manic camera focus, it makes the entire fleet look really really dirty. Like they are all about to rust into pieces, or are ancient in their own time!
    Enough about the bad, now the good! The Nimitz is far and away my favorite design of the era! I love the profile, it feel very powerful, without being colossal, or kinda goofy as the old beta canon FASA made ships can look. The raised bridge looks very practical and striking, for the conceit of having an exposed bridge. The swooping intakes on the saucer section, blend really well into the bussard collectors of the upper pair of nacelle. And as always, love the video, and your fanon. If I ever get to run a STA campaign, I'll be sure to use it as part of my game!

    900% less power draw means the the transporter actually produces 800% of the old transporters power draw , a 100% less would be 0 power draw

      Actually, it depends from which side you're measuring it! If you're measuring it from the Lat Vec Side than you would be correct... But not, as this video is doing, if you are measuring from the New Transporter System side!

    Not a bad design but I have the same issue with this that I have with all discovery designs. they don't fit the established canon of what we knew this era looked like for 50 years before the show debuted. It tried and failed to be both a prequal and a BSG style from the ground up reboot at the same time and did neither well at all. the ONLY way Discovery designs make sense (to me, your experience may differ) is that the entire Starfleet was made up of designs from the very early 2200s from before Starfleet settled on a specific design lineage (see Daedalus & constellation classes class for examples of star fleet ships that don't look like they usually do) that got gradually phased out in the 2250's by the Fasa designs ala Locknar class as well as the Miranda class and the Connie TMP refit when the discovery designs couldn't handle the might of the Imperial Klingon navy due to their age and inability to keep up with the latest and greatest advanced technology. Which in the late 2260's ten years later was a problem even the constitution class, the jewel of the fleet, could no longer ignore.

      Im sorry, but you're incorrect on all fronts... There is NO canon for this time period before DSC... So making the comment "they don't fit the established canon of what we knew this era looked like for 50 years before the show debuted," Is disingenuous. What you actually mean is it doesnt fit what you BELIEVED to be the aesthetic for this time period. And you were simply wrong about it.
      Daedalus Classes were long gone before this design, replaced with DSC Classes like Malacowski and Walker Classes. It all makes absolute sense in Starship Lineage. As the fleet would begin the boxy looking warp nacelles, would try something new for the Constitution Class and ultimately go back to the Boxy Style, see TMP...
      FASA designs are not canon. And although you want them to be, Canon always outweighs Beta Canon... So overall you've really got nothing but an incorrect assumption you made which is now trumped by actual canon! It's like those people that once believed the Earth was flat, before they were actually shown it wasnt...

      @@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics fundamentally disagree on all points. Discovery is only 10 years before TOS and is supposed to Be in the same universe and continuity. It should look exactly the same as 60s star trek since tng and ds9 have both established that's what that era of Starfleet looked like

    • @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics
      @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics  2 года назад

      First, again you're incorrect... DSC takes place 10 years before TOS, and IS in the same universe whether you like it or not. And in the end, that's all that matters, so you need to get over it :) Move on (Thread CLOSED- No further Comments will appear)

      Actually it Does, Did and Should! A more advanced version of what we see in DSC exists on the Enterprise in the Animated Series Episode The Practical Joker Circa 2268. So since it exists in canon as it does then, it makes sense that a less advanced version would exist in 2256... So you dont need to be annoyed anymore :)
