    I waved but you never waved back!
    The best London flypast I witnessed was when I was living in Maldon, Essex. I was having breakfast one Saturday morning and a lone Hawk flew over. Thought it was unusual. A bit later I was on my PC upstairs and had the curtains closed to stop the glare. I could hear a jet noise increasing in volume, opened the curtains and saw the Patrouille de France, French C-135, Red Arrows and VC-10 flying right over the top of me. Of course the earlier Hawk was the met check.

It also reminds of those time I flew with pilot friends (rotary and multis), as the discussion, style and pace of explanation was always very similar, its like a familiar old friend talking. Anyway back to the slow birds and more practice for this sim pilot. Keep up the awesome content, one day I may buy that Hawk

    I particularly enjoyed this video.
    The way the mission is executed and explained is extremely educational.
    My best wishes to the Queen, and I do not intend what follows as disrespectful, but I actually pictured it as a fine example of a bombing mission. Thight times, low level flight with checkpoints met precisely, being at the exact spot at the exact moment...
    I'm not suggesting you should make more combat content. On the contrary, I think the immersion this sim provides in conjunction with a excellent model and a expert real pilot shows the great possibilities that this platform offers.
    This video, your low level flight plans, they are something you don't find quite often.
    Thank you.

    Very in depth video! This plane looks fantastic. I've been eyeing this aircraft since I've read it's the best "Fighter" type jet in the game and it seems more down to earth and grounded maybe. Compared to something like the F-22 or F-16 at least, which are full of classified information and I can't imagine are too in-depth with their systems.
    But I have read complaints about the Hawk's flight model, such as it being apparently "Nearly impossible to trim out" and "Sluggish/too heavy feeling" being the two most common ones, seeing your aerobatics tutorials has me split. I do wish there was a way to test fly these planes before purchasing them.

    • @cgaviator
      @cgaviator  7 месяцев назад

      That would be a great idea, same as DCS. Try before you buy. The trimming is still an issue from what I remember. But then the only time that’s really apparent is instrument flying. I never found it too sluggish, as long as you use correct speeds and g. Most fast jets in the sim suffer from unusual flight characteristics. DCS trumps it massively for flight dynamics and system depth.

    Brilliant video. I love the detail, the planning, the explanation!
    Question: What is the allowable TOT margin of error on a mission like this? +/-5 seconds? And if any of the slower front formations got it wrong for any reason, what would their "escape" plan be to get out of the way of the faster aircraft behind?
    Can't imagine how you organise 70 aircraft to do this in six minutes. That aspect alone would scare the crap out of me!

    • @cgaviator
      @cgaviator  2 года назад +1

      I’m not sure of what they were working to but if there were 10 formations in 6 minutes they would have 36s between them. They could operate +/-10s which worse case could leave 16s separation if 2 consecutive formations were late then early. Generally pilots train to a 5s TOT especially when they have GPS available. It’s soooo much easier in an aircraft that works it out for you! 😄

    Very interesting and informative video as usual. Any idea what the plan would be if one of the single engined aircraft had an engine failure whilst flying low over London ? Will they have identified possible landing sites such as the Thames ? Thanks

    • @cgaviator
      @cgaviator  2 года назад

      Good question! If memory serves they get approval by someone who accepts the risk. The engines are very reliable so the risk is already very low. The crews will plan for it by calculating the range they would have available with a failure at 1000ft and 300kt. But largely it would be a case of try your best, aim for somewhere with little/no people and eject in time.

    I’m loving the content on your channel! Thank you for all the work you put in here! When I watch your low level videos I see you adjust your speed when you are ahead or behind at each turn point, but I haven’t seen if you have any precise calculations for how much to adjust. My best guess is that it’s based on experience? If you have a way you make speed corrections that you can teach, I’d love to learn it! I have one that works for me, and I was wondering if you would try a formula for speed adjustments?
    The concept is that the closer you are to your target, the bigger the correction you have to make. Reference the following ratio:
    6 minutes - 1x
    5 minutes - 1.2x
    4 minutes - 1.5x
    3 minutes - 2x
    2 minutes - 3x
    1 minute - 6x
    When you are 6 minutes away, your correction will be multiplied by a factor of 1 (6/6=1). When you are 3 minutes away, your correction will be multiplied by a factor of 2 (6/3=2). Your base speed adjustment will be 1 knot for each .1 miles you are ahead or behind.
    At your 6 minute check, you should be 36 miles from your target since you are traveling 6 miles a minute. If you are at 35.5 miles, then you are .5 closer than you should be, and decreasing your speed by 5 knots for the entire rest of the leg should get you there exactly on time. At your 3 minute check, you should be at 18 miles. If you are at 18.5 then you are .5 miles behind, and you need to increase your speed by the factor of 2 (.5 x 2 = 10 knots) for the rest of the leg in order to arrive on time.
    Another option is to make a larger than necessary correction. If you use the 2x ratio when you are six minutes away, then your timing should be fixed by the time you are 3 minutes away. The math may take a little getting used to, but it works great. I’d love to hear what you think!

    • @cgaviator
      @cgaviator  Год назад +1

      Thanks! And crikey, that's alot of calcuation. I'm sorry I didn't make the speed calc clearer. Adjust speed by 1kt per second early late and hold it for minutes equal to your TAS nm/minute. Ie 300kt = 5nm/min therefore hold corrections for 5 minutes. If you don't have that long then multiply correction by two if you want correction in half that time. Hope that helps!

    • @nathanhawkins5350
      @nathanhawkins5350 Год назад

      @@cgaviator ah of course, that math makes sense! Thank you for replying! In regards to the method I discussed, I agree that the math seems a little complicated at first, but just like any pilot math, it gets much easier with a little practice. Your method is a great way to update timing after passing a point with a known time, and the method I described is a great way to correct timing in order to reach a point with a known time. These two methods could compliment each other well in order to maximize situational awareness on the route. I think that the method I described can be especially helpful when approaching the target. Anyways, feel free to give it a try sometime if you want to do something a little different! I’d enjoy seeing how it goes for you and what you think. Have a great day!

    • @cgaviator
      @cgaviator  Год назад

      @@nathanhawkins5350 it’s essentially the same method for instance, if you had only 1/6th the time available you’d have to multiply the correction speed by 6. Better to have timing fixes early and keep the error small. If error gets big towards the end you’d cut corners rather than grossly increase speed (noise and fuel burn issues). Technique of course. I think you should give your technique a try and post me a link to see! 😁

      @@FighterAviation well a couple of thoughts, the game defaults to having assists enabled. Worth checking and turning them off perhaps. Keep your speed around 350-400kt if you want to manoeuvre dynamically. Slow speed means less responsive. High speed also slows the responses. 4G will only give you buffet at relatively slow speed. My aeros were flown at 350-400 and I could get 5-6G easily. At 7g it starts buffering too much. Hope some of that helps!
