Aborted landing at MEX!! AeroMexico 787-8

  • This is only the third time I've experienced an aborted landing / missed approach in over 700,000 miles of flying - and I managed to get this one on camera!
    The approach seemed completely normal, and we were probably only 10 feet off the ground at MEX before full power was applied and we went around again. The explanation announcement from the captain happens at 07:25.

    Look at the screen on the right at 3:52, there it looks like another plane took off and possibly the 787 when the aircraft was about to land the other Aircraft taking off, it did not leave the runway free, for me that was the reason for the failed landing, if it was a wind problem the 787 had to change the runway to land on 23's runways. but the Captain back to land for the same runways 05R, when the 787 start to climb immediately he turn right to leave the course of the other aircraft

    The only time I've experienced this was in the 80s when I was a member of the Air Training Corps. We were on a summer camp at RAF Brize Norton and had a flight on an RAF VC10, which for me was a dream come true as the VC10 is my favourite aircraft. This was more than a simple flight experience though. It was a training flight for the pilot who was to perform several "touch and go" manoeuvres. As this was straight after lunch, many on the flight were sick, me included. Still an epic flight experience and one I will always remember.

    Seen several of these on RUclips. I have done a lot of flying. I was in my first aborted landing (TOGA ) last year; 777 LGW in the dark at the height of storm Denis. It was very bad weather, but have landed in even worse (at CPH) and had full emergency landing at IKT.
    What I found very surprising with the LGW TOGA was my fellow passengers. There was a lot of screaming, crying, and huge distress. I had a busy 50 minutes reassuring people in the rows nearby that all was fine, you are safe etc. I don't hear or see this in the RUclips TOGAs. My first reaction was "ok, this is bad, but I have landed in worse. OK maybe he had a wind shear alarm?", second thought was "Wow great, my first go around!!"

    It seems like the aircraft was put down on the runway. No wind conditions, maybe runway incursion by another aircraft or airport vehicle? Who knows.
    Maybe the pilots wanted to fly the bird a little longer :-) ??? Hey, I wouldn't blame them, new airplane, who wouldn't like to fly it a little longer?

  • @alexphillips4663
    @alexphillips4663 4 года назад

    I have not flown a whole lot during my lifetime... some quick calculations suggest under 25,000 miles total (starting from when I was a child old enough to remember). Still, one of the ~21 landings was a go-around, though, coming into TUS (Tucson) on a MD-80 during a monsoonal storm. I guess the wind shifted about 180 degrees on short final, as right before landing on 29R, the JT8Ds spooled into a mighty buzz and up we went. The plane came in from the other side and landed on 11L. I didn't get it on video, but I have a series of stills!
    That was one of American's MD80s, a type they just retired about half a year ago. I know they're not as efficient as newer aircraft, but they had character... I always liked flying on the old maddogs.

    My guess is they were holding too much speed at the approach and missed the landing and if they hadn't pulled out would have tan out of runway? Idk! Those Dreamliners are amazing! Edit: Per Captain, they had a missed approach due to wind conditions.

    I't doesn't move like there is that much crosswind, and not at all as being any severe gusting condition. I think this was just bad technique. He arrived too fast, to high (and then too far) and very deviated to the left. At the end he did something right, going around.

    La explicación del piloto ES MENTIRA! El dice que debido al viento tuvieron que abortar el aterrizaje, en el minuto 2:54 se ve el cono naranja con una tensión muy baja, lo que indica un viento moderado, la razón mas obvia es que "se paso" de la zona de aterrizaje. Y que lo puedes comparar con la pista de enfrente y las marcas.

    • @LUSEHA
      @LUSEHA 5 лет назад +3

      La pista de enfrente está posicionada mucho más atrás que en dónde se estaba realizando el aterrizaje, no hables si no conoces bien el AICM

    • @lalogarcia9882
      @lalogarcia9882 5 лет назад

      Yo veo que el cono esta con viento de frente.. y son dos medidas de las 4 que tiene, para mi si hay algo de viento y esto de frente puede provocar que el avion "flote" mas para hacer el toque.. por muy estable que se vea la aproximacion.. si tiene el viento de frente parejo.. el avion flotara mas de lo normal y hay veces que puedes quitar mucha potencia y no baja.. logicamente se paso la zona pero no fue su culpa del todo

    • @peris666
      @peris666 5 лет назад +1

      ¿Me puedes decir cuáles eran las componentes de viento? ¿Los cambios de densidad por temperatura ? ¿Cuál era el peso de aterrizaje? ¿Había algún componente diferido?

    Never had an aborted landing but I did experience an aborted takeoff on a DL flight from CDG to ATL. We were in full takeoff roll and then he slammed on the brakes. It was a plane crossing the runway as we were taking off. Disaster averted, but there's no worse feeling than those brakes being applied and not being able to see what's happening in front of you.

      I'm not so sure - the approach felt really smooth all the way through the flair, so I'd be surprised if that was the issue. Then again, I'm not a pilot, so it's hard to tell what really happened.

      Yes, there the video I uploaded just prior to this one (the AeroMexico 787 "full" flight) has the landing.

    holy shit.. the bending of the wing..
    It still doesnt seem to be very.. jumpy flight wise (I once took off during a heavy storm via Volaris to IAH. It was awful)
    Also watching from the video, it seems that a) the plane was going TOO FAST b) he lost nearly 40% of the runway before almost touching down.

    pienso que el viento provoco que aterrizara demasiado adelantado por lo que se le acorto la pista para detenerlo a tiempo.

    • @oscar2099

      El viento bajo hizo que el avión entrará en pista adelantado, comprometiendo el aterrizaje

    Wow, a super late go around!

    • @kledcitocl
      @kledcitocl 7 лет назад +1

      Indeed, it is not a go around since the plane DOES touchdown, thus this is defined as an aborted landing. This is way less common than the go around but in high-elevation airports, it is more regularly done.
      Greetings!

    SANspotter what do you feel when the aircraft go up

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  7 лет назад +1

      It was kind of a weird feeling since we were dropping onto the runway one moment, and then taking off the next. It felt like a regular takeoff, but weird since it was immediately after the dropping feeling of the flair and landing.
