The gimbal to buy for vertical and horizontal filmmaking is the DJI RS4 Pro. With this gimbal, you are getting all of the excellent features from the much loved RS3 Pro, plus the ability to switch from horizontal to manual filmmaking in as little as 10 seconds - which is a game changer if you are a wedding filmmaker or someone else that needs to film very quickly and your clients are constantly asking you for vertical video clips.

The crane 2s/weebill's vertical mode is kinda limited when it comes to moving the gimbal around, not super user-friendly. It's pretty much the same deal with the vertical mode on the RS3 and RS2.
I have an DJI RS4 Pro Combo... anddddd I LOVETTTTT Iitttt... men is such a good gimbal... Also your last video for "LIVE STREAMING WEDDING" is like 4 year old... anything new??? any update regarding this??? I have a wedding at the end of June in Chicago and I need to live stream it... and Regards from Spain... you should come here and do a behind the scene wedding video... Thanks again Matt great video as always.
Great video. I have the regular RS4 and love it. I have it paired with my Canon R8. This is my first gimbal so I am watching every video I can on this gimbal to learn as much as I can.
Great video!
Do you know if RS4 and RS4 Pro can handle an on-camera mic without touching the back motor when doing low-angle shots?
Thanks a lot in advance.
But that time of 10 seconds does not include re-balancing. So 10 seconds are not nearly enough to switch from shooting horizontally to shooting vertically, right?
I can see that if you have a lighter camera, the gimbal would still work without rebalancing after the orientation switching. But it is not balanced properly anymore, so the motors would stress more.
Thanks for the video, are you going to upgrade to this for you weddings or will you be sticking with the mini ?
For weddings I’m going to stick with the RS3 mini as I don’t film a ton of vertical video and I really like how lightweight that gimbal is for all day filming. But for travel, especially if I’m planning on filming stock footage, I’m going to bring along the RS4 Pro
Thanks for your reply, I see the mini has been reduced this week so may just go for it 😄
did you mean you can switch in approximately 10 seconds plus rebalancing?
Nope, I’ve successfully used the gimbal in vertical mode without rebalancing for quick shots.
My thinking is that if you are primarily filming horizontal but you need to grab a quick vertical shot, the motors are strong enough to handle the gimbal being a bit unbalanced and will still give you stable footage. After you get the quick shot you can switch back. :)
Solid review
Great video Matt, so we don't have to re balance and re calibrate it?
I’ve got the new RS4 pro, yes you still have to re balance and re calibrate sadly. 😢😂
If you need to get a shot quickly you should be alright without rebalancing, but if you have time and you’re going to be filming vertical for a while, I would rebalance
The same what crane 2s did vertical few years ago :D
Does the new plate work on the rs3pro
As far as I know, yes.
Weebill 2 rotates to vertical automáticly
My guy!
fx9 will not fit there but fx6 yes for sure
The auto lock on screen is something I didn’t know.
It’s a nice feature for sure
If your shooting elopements auto locking is mandatory I'll never go back.
It’s too big. Camera is already a liability let alone combining it with a gimbal.
Oh Matt, vertical and filmmaking are two words that should never be in the same sentence. This gimbal makes vertical content creation easier. But that should be left to an Osmo 3. Vertical wedding video? C’mon. We need to stop pandering to locked wrists.
I prefer horizontal video to vertical video, but if the client wants vertical, it’s nice that this product makes it easier to fulfill that request.
I agree vertical video is a pain, but it’s only getting more popular 😬
So DJI RS5 Pro will automatically switch to vertical mode, yeah? got it!
I’ll wait for the RS7 where we can click a button and the gimbal arms will rotate making it horizontal and balanced automatically.
you don't have to, just get the older RSC2, thats exactly what it does...
@@gilbertogranados6367I don’t think you got what he meant. For a gimbal to auto balance itself, each motor would need gear teeth to physically move the arm to balance on its own.
I'm starting to get annoyed by the tactics of these companies and I'm starting to skip videos promoting products from certain companies. I've just spent a high amount of money on RS3 Pro just a couple of months ago, to find out they are releasing a new one capable of vertical operation. Now I feel ripped off and the fact that I can't find anywhere the L bracket for RS3 Pro makes me even more mad, now I know they don't restock it in order to sell the new gimbal.
I see nov RS4 Pro is $200 more than RS3 Pro. Nice one, DJI!
Very frustrating. I hate when they discontinue support for a relatively young product just to push the next model.
I experienced something similar with the DJI RS2 - I bought the Canon R5C, but DJI never updated the drivers to support the control cable for the RS2 because they were releasing the RS3.
Or, just keep shooting horizontal and force the millennials and Gen Z’s to (the horror) turn their phones 90 degrees.
cage on the camera, attach mount to cage simple
