    Hi there! I was hoping to get some advice on tailoring my shirts. I'm a man with broad shoulders and a larger chest, but my hands are quite thin. Because of this, I often have to buy larger shirts, which means that I end up with too much material in the sleeves with "bat wings." I've been trying to find videos online that can show me how to remove this extra material, but most of them focus on removing material from the sides and the sleeves at the same time. Do you have any tips on how to tailor shirt sleeves specifically? Thank you!

    Hi, I've got a question.
    In my case, my dress shirt got a good fit at my thorax but is a bit baggy by the stomach. In addition to this, the side hems are these double-layered fabric-thicker parts (No idea what they may be called), and this creates a problem. Because it would not look good to in the middle of the shirt go from these thicker double-stitched parts into a single stitch without layered fabric, so I'm just curious whether you have any tips for this scenario...

    • @pricklypear7516
      @pricklypear7516 11 месяцев назад

      The seams you're talking about are either French seams or flat-felled seams. And you're right: NOBODY who wants to look professional would do this wretched "hack" (literally) to their dress shirts; they'll end up with a horrible mess of puckers and unprofessional-looking stitching. It is possible to apply shallow side- and back-darts to a dress shirt to take up the slack, but if you're not an experienced seamster, it's a really bad idea. (If you notice in the thumbnail, the shirt on the left is actually a couple sizes bigger than the "fixed" shirt. The shoulder seams are sloping off his shoulders, the sleeves are rucked up at the wrist, and -- of course -- the middle looks baggy. (This is actually a pretty aggravating video.)

    Truly curious I commented this on the GG channel but no response what is your opinion on cropped trousers? Do you think they look bad or are just a short term thing? Honestly I don't think they look that bad as long as you don't overdo it and make them too high. I feel a couple inches from your normal length is still somewhat modest. My pants are normal length however I feel like my drawstring Seersucker pants could be a couple inches shorter because they look a bit sloppy not sure how to explain it but yeah a shorter look would be neater on those pairs. Last thing is season during the hotter months I don't think they look out of place.

    • @CoverofWinter
      @CoverofWinter 3 года назад +1

      GG pretty much covered the topic with their most recent video and pretty much boils down to a fad trying too hard. Maybe they work for you but it fits more on a more modern look than classic style.

    • @Manuel421
      @Manuel421 3 года назад

      @@CoverofWinter My regular pants are full length so no worries I'm just asking about my drawstring pants that I wear for lounging at home. They tend to look a bit sloppy at full length or perhaps I should just iron them instead of going for a cropped look? I understand where you're coming from though and I appreciate the insight. I think you misunderstood a little it's not my habit to wear cropped pants in general I'm just talking about my lounge pants if I should try an inch shorter or just iron them out so they look less wrinkly at the bottom.

    • @CoverofWinter
      @CoverofWinter 3 года назад +1

    • @Manuel421
      @Manuel421 3 года назад

      @@CoverofWinter It does get a bit difficult I agree. Right now the lounge pants are also full length but maybe I could go an inch or 2 shorter next time unless theres a brand of seersucker drawstring pants that are high quality and wont wrinkle at the bottom but they tend to be very expensive just from browsing online. Anyway I'll figure something out thanks again!

    This is not as easy as it looks very difficult and takes hours. Find a tailor and pay them $20 to do it. Much easier

      @@darleschickens7106 understood, nevertheless I know a lot of people (my wife & mother & daughter) just buy a style of clothing or color then create more work for themselves later. Believe me I have issues opposite to yours and when I find a brand that sizes in my favor I buy in bulk…I get it.

      @@damiangrouse4564 Ah I get you, too true. It is the norm often with women's fashion, it seems, to buy then try then return.

    Yeah well this only suits people in good shape, those with love handles don't wanna show the world the layer of fat carrying around their waist
