Ice! Beetle! Sky! Showin' why they are...WHO they are! Thx 4 this Tony Tee👍🏾
your welcome
Great upload. I used to watch Beetle, Ice & Sky Ervin when they hooped in Rucker Park early 80s.
& Carey Scurry (nba)
He had a younger brother named Mike Ervin who played at Hamilton
I remember watching that game on TV on a Saturday
I don't pretend to know anything about either of these teams. But after watching this tape, they look like two really good college teams going up against each other.
Their style of play is awesome. Up tempo fast break basketball from start to finish.
Forgot how good Eugene " Beetle" Washington was. This was my graduating class ( Truman HS/ BRONX).Remember watching them play on channel 9( WOR) for the PSAL championship.
Do you remember a guy named Moten
@@vincentkennedy3487 Oh shit!! Yeah man. Herbie Moten. We graduated in ' 81. He was in my gym and a few of my classes. Quiet but a solid guard. Was on varsity I think since he was a freshman, I think but definitely since his sophomore year. Him and Vince Williams.
@@missayawk The same year I graduated from Hale in Brooklyn,I believe yall won the city championship in 84 with Steve Lappas as the head coach
@@vincentkennedy3487 Yes we won it all PSAL and state in '84 led by Rod Strickland, Robert Brantley, Tyrone Joye and Arnold " A-Train " Bernard. It was Rod's only year at Truman and he led us to the state title. I was in the USAF at this time and couldn't figure out where Rod came from. I knew Brantley and Joye and heard of Bernard, but Rod? Many years later I met him at Gauchos gym in the Bronx and HAD TO ask him the question...." where did you come from ? " He told me he went to Rice H.S for 2 yrs then came to Truman, then went to Oak Hill even though he really wanted to run it back, but he knew he needed to get his grades up and going to Oak Hill was the best thing for him. Yes Steve Lappas was the coach. I think Lappas came my junior year, before him was coach Celentano.
@@missayawk Never knew he went to Rice interesting
TONY TEE THANK YOU FOR THIS UNFORGETTABLE MOMENT IN MY LIFE I WAS ON THAT TEAM AND WAS A FRESHMAN ONE OF THE GREATEST COACH RAY HASKINS AND SOME OF THE GREATEST TEAMMATES THANK AGAIN YOU JUST BROUGHT THE ROME BACK LOL
One of my great friend Thomas little brother started for Franklin on that squad Greg Imes ( R.I.P.) , I was in Secret wedding and saw Greg wedding . Great family , and Bro. Randy ( Mr. Bankshot) had game too.

@@CoachToneMy era one of the best

This is 40 year old video. This looks real good.
yessir
GREAT TO HAVE FOUND THIS. I REMEMBER THE HAMILTON TEAM WELL. THEY WON THE NYC PSAL CHAMPIONSHIP & THEN WERE UPSET IN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP BY NYC's CHSAA CHAMPIONS- BROOKLYN'S XAVARIAN H.S. THEY WERE LED BY COLLEGE (ST. JOHN'S) & NBA GREAT (WARRIORS) CHRIS MULLIN.
One of the greatest teams ever.
Xaverian had a another kid on that team he went to Boston College I forgot his name
Beetle Washington was a monster back then watch him play in park tournaments, same results. And ice reynolds was a beast to in the park
I scouted Hamilton in 81 one of the very best h.s teams of the decade. Maybe Ben Franklin of nyc was better than these two teams . With springer adams Walter berry and Kenny Hutchison. Led by Stan dinner. But Ray haskins formerly of boys high had this beetle 🐞 running that show . Probably the greatest pressing team next to Camden , n.j.s Wagner led team. Which probably topped 165 points in a 32 minute game as well. Both teams were well coached and disciplined for the frenetic pace they played.
Funny, you mention it Franklin was ranked#1 that year and was upset by Stevenson, the following year Hamilton was ranked #1 in the country they got upset by Xaverian
NY putting in work.i forgot how good Ice Reynolds was. Andre Ervin and Beetle Washington.
yea they were tough
Billy Ray Bates vs Galen Baker I,ll never forget... The most exciting match-up I ever saw in my many years!!
True and the Baker League was a great league back then.
Coach Haskins was a tough but great coach. I played that last season for Hamilton.
wow, thats great.
Jerry Ice could really go so could Andre and Beatle Washington.Great upload!!!!!!
thank you
@@CoachToneAndre younger brother Mike Ervin played at Hamilton
Yes sir A Hamilton Vs B Franklin in Philly 1981 I was on team please contact me thanks
Great find! I remember this game well as I played in the girls game for West Phila vs. John F. Kennedy. Tony Tee can you find the Girls Big Classic Game of 1981 as well?
Good to see Coach Ham and Trimbetta . I played for Ham from 1973-1976... .
great years right there.
My brother Kieth Smith for Ben.franklin no.22
Ham had a crew Beetle, Sky Ice...they were nasty... this was when NYC HS ball had so much talent. Pearl Washington ... Roosevelt
The good ole NYC. Much love from VA. Yall were turnt back in the day. VA got hoopers too. I'm near Iverson and Alonzo Mourning, NYC takes cake over every big city. I do love Philly, D.C, and Baltimore because they all have that New York city flavor to their game. Chicago is tough too, but they think they're more than what they sre.
Beetle Washington was amazing .
facts
I think that's the same Victor Alexander who played for Iowa State and the Golden State Warriors in the late 80's/early 90's.
Same number, body tyoe and play style. He must have been 12 here because this was 1981 and Alexander was born in 1969.
Might be a different guy but Im not sure.
Naw. Vic went on to Ohio University. Didn't play in the NBA.
That Victor Alexander was from Detroit. Demby HS I believe
im not sure about that.
That's Len Berman on the call
yes it is
When I played against them at Christ The King NY, they destroyed us. it was like playing against a college team.
lol true
Tony Tee, if you have video of the 1980 AHam/Westinghouse playoff game, upload that as well.... Classic!
nah wish i did tho
Westinghouse had Roosevelt Chapman
Wow. Blast from the past. Tony Costner
Yessir.
Cosmic Costner and Lonnie McFarlane from Philly
Players were much better technically back then because there was no ridiculous 3-point line.
we beat alezander hamilton in 73! for dcsl championship beacon high school westchester conty center!!! ma. steve strong
oh ok
