    one underrated weight loss tip is the use of "incidental exercise" it's kinda like exercising on accident. For example, choosing to take the stairs, get off the train a stop early to walk the rest of the way, being aware of how long you've been sitting for and get up and drink some water or walk through the house, do 10 star jumps etc.

      @autumnlove96able 2 года назад +2

      Unfortunately not everyone can do those since they may have some health issues as a result of weight gain and/or inactivity or for some other reason. I was diagnosed with hyper extension in all of my joints so without doing strength training on a weekly basis my joints become very painful. I can’t raise my arms past my chest, can’t take stairs due to knee pain, etc. Your diet massively impacts your health and weight, so it’s a great place to start. Getting into a regular exercise schedule of 2-3 days of HIIT (high intensity interval training) workouts and strength training regimens will build the muscles around the joints and will make it easier for people to do incidental exercise.

      Citing about 3 weeks is a tad ambitious, I’m afraid. The scientifically accepted timeframe is 2-3 months [Read: 60-90 Days]; with the mean settled comfortably right around 66 days.
      While 18 days has been observed in a not insignificant amount of the population when observing what is know as the “cementing phase”; when it comes to real addictions (which Chris has with comfort drinking & eating), you must be compelled to give it at least 2-3 months.
      My personal thought on the subject being that 4-5 months is a relatively safe point when you can count on a habit having successfully formed. Especially when considering those who are burdened with quite stubborn minds, this approach can very well be the difference between success or failure!
      I only bring all of this to your attention because it would be remiss if me not to in the very likely even that someone reads what you said and thinks to themself, “I’ve done this for 18-21 days, but this crap still feels like such a bother!”, since that is not usually the appropriate amount of time it takes for one to form a habit to the point they stop noticing their plight to change and instead realize their goal has actually been reached!
      Remember: it’s only truly a habit when you basically stop thinking of doing it.
      However, if I’m certain of just one thing in all of this babble of mine; it has extremely rarely ever been the case that “about 3 weeks” would be sufficient to integrate good habits in order to combat bad habits due to moderate-severe addictions.
      I hope that any/some of this could help clarify for any/some one who might have enjoyed a morsel of insight into our whacky brain chemistry!
      Edit: Upon a second read, when I wasn’t so tired from recently waking up; I do see that you noted “start to become a habit”, so I will concede that I might have jumped the gun a bit on my reply, as you might have already been aware of what I said, lol.
      However, I will elect to leave my response up as an ancillary to your initial statement; which as aforementioned, many people could easily misconstrue and assume that “about 3 weeks” would be “good enough”, when embarking to form a habit.

    Tip from an overweight dude: Choose a “favourite bowl”. I lost about 10 kg (was 112, is 99) just getting myself a tiny miso bowl and ate exact same food but portioned it in this “favourite bowl”. Started cycling, swimming & just going around to places by foot if possible. I still look overweight, still am overweight but this 10 kilos I lost REALLY did make my life a lot “lighter”. I stopped doing this bc of my uni exams but I’m Planning on doing this once again this summer. God speed Chris!

    I really like the part where you explain how you're goal-oriented because that is what is helping me right now. I've been a bit overweight for a while but never thought anything of it. Then I ended up getting a bad report after a lab test earlier this year and decided I needed to get healthier (family history of high blood pressure and diabetes doesn't help either). What helps me is my love of hiking and travelling. I realized that if I don't improve, I won't have the energy or ability to go out and explore how I want. Diet is the main thing for sure, but you don't have to suffer while on a diet. You want to diet in a way where you could continue it for years and years. You don't need to sacrifice flavor for healthy food either. There's great recipes online for tasty, healthy food. Best of luck on the journey! The biggest thing is consistency. Do something every day, or nearly so. It doesn’t have to be much. Just move that body even when you don’t want to. That’s when real positive changes happen brother. You’ve inspired me so much in life. I’m sure this is something you can do as well. - someone a few years into their own fitness journey who’s finally happy about the way he looks.
    You don’t even need to go all kale and salads bullshit.
    Prioritize protein, around .8-1.2 grams per lb of your goal body weight, and try to figure out your maintenance calories (there are online calculators and over time it becomes rather intuitive) and shoot for a slight deficit, do not starve yourself for short term progress. Don’t go no carbs, it’s simple, easy fuel for your body, although limiting them can be effective. Mix in some fruits and veggies and avoid regularly consuming your high caloric pocky chicky, but honestly once you get to a point where you’re consistently burning off a lot of what you eat you can be more comfortable “cheating” and eating those things people often feel guilty about. This ended up being long winded, but I just want to encourage you. Good luck Chris-San!

    • @1337billybob
      @1337billybob 2 года назад +3

      That protein thing is a bit much. It’s more of consistent exercise make sure you get the nutrients you need and eat whatever else you want without going over a minor caloric deficient with the aim of a certain goal weight.
      I prefer swimming 2-3 times a week 45 minute swims. High energy for time and low impact. I have lowered my cholesterol by cutting out some high protein high cholesterol foods. Like I love sour cream but what’s better is guacamole or avocados. Similar no more milk in coffee. No breakfast kefir (high protein diary with cholesterol). Lastly I try to have meat once a day at most, and that is not always consistent, but I love lentils, black beans, and tofu.

    • @mikeonabike15able
      @mikeonabike15able 2 года назад

      @@1337billybob I suppose for the goal of lowering cholesterol making those choices would be smart. I was thinking more in line with speeding up metabolic rates with an increase in musculature, as muscle costs your body calories to maintain. If your goal is overall health then you’re absolutely correct making healthy choices is always going to be better.
      I was also thinking more about maximizing results without making too much of a lifestyle change. Just giving tips more associated with my own fitness journey, however, I’m still young and not overly concerned with my cholesterol and other levels as much as I probably should be. Good on you!

      Trying to lose weight and build muscle at the same time is the dumbest advice you could ever give someone.
      Musclebuilding makes you extremely fucking hungry, and you will not burn off the extra calories unless you literally spend your whole days at the gym. Not to mention eating less but not seeing the results on the weight scale is extremely demoralising.

    Your sentence "It's Japan that did this to me" made me laugh. Funnily, that is what happened to me, even though we have completely different diets. I lived in Japan as a vegetarian for 7 months and gained 5kg (which was a lot for me, since I was very thin till then and not afterwards) because all the veggies were so expensive. I am from a country where food is very affordable and I can eat as many veggies as I want. In Japan I mostly ate instant ramen for budgeting reasons. And after a while I felt like I was not full however much I ate.
    Long story short: going back home, eating how I ate before with lots of veggies was all it took to not feel overweight and loose those 5kg.

      Yeah, people don't realize: we humans have enough calories at our disposal to feed everyone on Earth (if we just distributed them fairly), BUT there aren't enough fruits and veggies in the world to allow everyone good health. In the future, we're going to need much less animals chomping up fields of hay and corn, and grow fruits and veggies instead.

Turned 22 and got a terrible health report and kicked my butt into gear. I tell you what, I have not wanted to train more often than I want to, but it feels good to show up consistently. I feel you. I turn 34 this year and after moving to Japan last August, I weigh the heaviest I ever have...I blame the stress of the move and not getting back into good habits. Last week, I decided I have to make a change. Started putting my workouts in the morning first, before everything else (and all the excuses I make up in my mind). Still working on the food part though...because there is so much good food to discover here! But it's a start. I'm feeling motivated, and I hope that continues. Especially since I'm hoping to hike up Mt Fuji before I leave in three years, I really need to get in shape for it! Best luck to you on your journey!

    My Father is 75 years old and has had some terrible health probs over the past few years. He decided that he was going to go back to eating and drinking the way he did when he was at his healthiest, as a youth in the 1960's, when he still lived at home in the UK and his Mother cooked all of his meals. No artificial anything, no takeaway crap, no sugary soft drinks, no excess carbs, just good old fashioned British home cooking. He is looking and feeling so much better and says it is a way of life, not a diet, after all it was the way of life back then. And if you hate strenuous exercise, then walking is a great form of exercise and if you are going back to the UK, you can make some RUclips vids about walks in the English Countryside, we would all love to see them.

      True. I recently went on a hike because our country shut down everything (even reasonable exercise, if you can't tell I live in a place that's not a nature preserve).
      I went biking for groceries a few times a week but otherwise haven't eaten or done as much physical activity as I normally do because the places I usually visit by bike or car were shut down and restricted from public entry.
      While I technically understand the reasoning, most people either go to gym and avoid parks because they smell like concentrated dog pee. At the moment, I was one of the nuts cruising E-bay for a turbo trainer and home work out courses (which I generally hate.) just to burn through the calories. My ability to sit in front of a computer with no financial worries thankfully, is a huge fortune, but you don't realize just how much crap you eat when you're stuck browsing the snack selection at home. (In office, I have a mini-fridge that usually gets a few sweets but mostly contains flavored water and cut fruit.)

    I recently came back from singapore, after being there 6 months. I actually kept my weight on, all 84kg, but my blood values were much better. I assume mainly from the extra walking i did. But my doctor stated i will just go back to my old values if i don't get more active and/or eat better.
    So my goal for the year, 10k steps a day. AT LEAST. I plan on adding more goals, like being able to run for more than 30secs without passing out :)
    Good luck to you on your active goals!

    I did reply back to when you posted about this on Twitter. My advice is the same: be consistent, make small repeatable changes, no crash or fad diets, and don't completely deny yourself something you crave. This is a lifestyle change and those take time and effort. Don't beat yourself up if you hit a snag or fail to hit a goal, those things happen and you aren't perfect. You got this. 👍🏾
