What is Syphilis?
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) that's treatable with medication. Without treatment, syphilis causes serious health problems. It can permanently damage your heart, brain, muscles, bones and eyes. To reduce your risk of infection, always use a condom during sex.

Symptoms of Syphilis:
The symptoms of syphilis are often mild and hard to notice. They tend to change over time and may come and go.
Symptoms of syphilis include:
- small sores (ulcers) on your penis, vagina, or around your bottom (anus) - these are usually painless and you may only have one of them - chancre
- sores in other areas, including in your mouth or on your lips, hands or bottom
- white or grey warty growths most commonly on your penis, vagina or around your anus
- a rash on the palms of your hands and soles of your feet that can sometimes spread all over your body - this is not usually itchy
- white patches in your mouth
- flu-like symptoms, such as a high temperature, headaches and tiredness
- swollen glands
- patchy hair loss on the head, beard and eyebrows
It can take 3 weeks or more for the symptoms of syphilis to appear after you're infected. Sometimes the symptoms can improve or go away completely, but if you have not been treated the infection is still in your body.
This means you can still pass it on and you're at risk of getting serious problems later on.
HOW IS SYPHILIS DIAGNOSED?
Your healthcare provider will ask about your sexual history, including whether you practice safe sex. It's important to be honest during this discussion. Your provider can help assess your risk and recommend tests for other STIs.
To test for syphilis, your provider will examine you and take a blood sample to look for signs of the infection. Your provider may remove some fluid or a small piece of skin from a syphilis sore and look at it under a microscope. The only way to know for sure if you have syphilis is by visiting your healthcare provider and getting a lab test.
HOW IS SYPHILIS TREATED?
Your healthcare provider treats syphilis with antibiotics. Antibiotics are a type of medication that treats bacterial infections. Penicillin is the most commonly used medication for syphilis. How much medication you need and how long you take it depends on your syphilis stage and symptoms.
You must finish all your antibiotics even if the sore or rash goes away. It's important to contact anyone you've had sex with within the last two years and let them know they should be tested.

Have to become hyper vigilant these days. There are too many people that do not believe in vaccines or even doctors. I do not trust people, they would, out of embarrassment or whatever never reveal the truth. So, if you are going to be sexually active,, demand that your partner get tested for an std and aids. Do you value your life, or would you rather just take a chance"? There are a lot of stories about those who chose "chance" and are dead. They would be alive and well, if they had chosen differently.
I was tested positive with syphilis last july 2023. I had the symptoms since may 2023, unknown red spots on my feet sole and palm of my hands and generally feel weak. I kept asking myself since may 2023 until the day i got tested why i always feel sleepy even i slept 8 hours a day and had proper meal and nutrition.
I went to our local healthcare ang got jabbed in the butt with penecillin G.
The doctor told me that I have a lenient syphilis. Maybe i got the syph way back year 2018 or 2019 and the bacteria just slept. Thankfully the medicine was free.

Depends on your definition of insanity. But any disease that attacks the brain can increase risk of dementia or alzheimers.
I remember my mind thought I had it but the blood test was negative but my mind was not convinced and wasted 1 year of worrying and being unable to move out from house.

VDRL Is for screening not confirming diagnose, and it could be false positive …you should do FTA-ABS OR TPPA test

can someone please help… idk what it is but i have a rash similar to 1:48. on the sides of my stomach and my inner knees (back of knees). and a bit on my inner thighs. is it possible to skip the primary stage and go to secondary? i didn’t have any genital sore nor did i feel sick. i received oral february 12th. that’s pretty much it. it also itches a lot

I have a sore that looks a bit like an ulcer on my junk, but it started as a white head(I get them on my inner thighs too, a hard flesh like thing comes out when I pop it) and once I popped it it now looks like an ulcer. Any idea what the bump is? It’s hard, painless and it’s hard to get the white head flesh thing out of the bump, and it bleeds a good bit once you’ve “popped” it

Hmm me Sons father must have been in the latent stage when I was involved with him. I only found out that he had syphilis because I went to the same clinic he did for my first prenatal exam. I tested negative for the disease but he tested again and was positive. I was treated with penicillin injections "just on case" they told me. They had no idea why I hadn't contracted the disease despite having sex with him and becoming pregnant with his child . Thankfully I stopped seeing him the year my Son was born

I still don't understand how I got syphilis, I had only one partner and he didn't have any signs of syphilis, and when I got it I didn't have 1st stage, I didn't have any wounds in my mouth or on my penis but after some time I just got to 2nd stage where I had terrible rash all over my body, I wasn't in pain it just looked terrible, I don't know how did it happen or why I didn't have 1st stage.
