  • Star Wars The Acolyte final trailer showed us a helmeted Sith villain at the end with his red lightsaber taking on the Jedi. Leslye Headland was inspired by The Last Jedi. In this Star Wars theory, we look at how the villain on Ahch-To may have been teased in the novel of Rian Johnson's controversial Episode VIII of the sequel trilogy before Rey visited Luke Skywalker.

    The two biggest problems with the sequel trilogy was that they were poorly written and that the directors were given free reign and looked at the SW movies as just another paycheck. Never hire "in" directors and give them free reign, it never works out unless they are very passionate about the source material. Rian and J.J. are both great directors, but they clearly didn't care about the franchise, at all.

      problem wasn’t the last jedi it was the rise of skywalker. what else was supposed to be the arc of luke, hmmm? a boy, who childishly adored the mythos of the jedi, of course he was going to revert to the horrible dogma and arrogance that led to the fall of the jedi in the first place. no the problem was the rise of skywalker- a movie that should’ve been two separate features in length; that should’ve contained minutes maybe even hours of force ghost interaction; a lengthy focus on lando’s persuasiveness to get all those “people” to fight; a championing of rey nobody, not the totally off star wars message of bloodlines- how that notion (not just in star wars but life was really lucas’s point) and not meritocracy based on one’s actions is the cause of not only just but great things- Luke didn’t possess force sensitivity because he was anakin’s son, but because he was a tender, hard working, self made person (just like his dad) who had experienced true hardship (just ask any adopted child) and sadness and was attuned to things the rich and powerful and smug and arrogant aren’t. which isn’t to say the force can’t be felt by those others, just that the above is pretty much a shared origin in one aspect or another for light side users (force sensitive youths sensed by jedi were almost always from simple roots (ahsoka, the foundlings in tcw and rebels too). no the problem isn’t the last jedi it’s the abomination that came after it.

    Anyone who has been through what I think could be very fairly described as the "Star Wars gauntlet of the last 10 years with Disney taking over, then trying to install itself like "we've always been here," the promise and potentials of the movies the mistrust and mis-steps after those failed to connect like they should have... and, inevitably, rises.. and more, Mando, Ahsoka... so now what's left, those of us who are left, we are deeply scarred, truly hopeful, but unwilling to trust quite so quickly.
    Thanks Meg, for always being there after each ep Of Bad Batch... for always letting us know how you feel.. but not at the cost of sanity or of real truth! Your favorite aren't always the same as mine, but I know that you speak from the place of love whether you actually love any particular piece!
    I cannot wait for this show to get here at this point. There are a million ways things could go wrong... but there's also a beautiful path when they come together in unison .
    I really hope we get something that I can feel down where my arteries touch the tip of my soul. And that it's something I am so enthralled by because it helps me see a part of Star Wars in a way I hadn't considered before. But also I hope it helps me see life here on our planet in a way I'd never seen before.

One of his films gave us the greatest cliffhanger in movie history. Guess they were trying to recreate the magic between Empire and Jedi. And they succeeded. The fandom was all a buzz between 7 and 8. RUclips creators made good money on speculation videos. It was the high expectations placed on 8 that made it such a great failure when some "genius" decided to subvert expectations. Put a finger on the pulse of the paying customer, Rian! I've always seen the high republic to be that actual point in time where the hubris of the Jedi actually really started to manifest itself. Look at them .. Compared to the old republic which in itself is a whole other entity also. A bit of a mix f more armored than the clone wars. but back then . They KNEW their enemy. and it was more so a constant clash between both organizations. Btu I ffind the high republic. They were a little fanicier and pretier. Which makes sense given their attitude right. They do believe at this point in time that they are the be all end all. Nothing to actually challenge them. Till that realitily gets pulled out from underneath them. And the jedi we see in the clone wars era are a great example of how the propagganda of the council of first knowledge did it's job great. And the sith were able to catch the jedi off guard yet again. I know it'll causes division. Al modern stars does. Even since the prequels came out. I remember the internet forums back then. Disconnected with each other, runaway authority at least seems that way when viewing media, desire to find out who you are and to be unique afraid of being just a nobody, thinking you are taking a path and action to make a difference but actually you are making things worse for those you care for, importance of transparent communication between leaders and followers not often present but greatly desired in day to day life to avoid those wasted effort rabbit holes, and finally acceptance within a group escaping from isolation and yearning. by itself it is a great film, like each sequel film, 7 8 and 9, it suffers from deviating too far from lore.

The irony here is that again, you think fans get to control narratives. They don't. They complain and whine about them like children. Lucas is an example of that. He became a fan the second he sold it. So, i guess you're acting like your hero...? You keep saying Rian made a piece of fanfiction when the entire movie had hundreds of people reread, edit, approve, hire, act, cut, etc... thousands, literally, thousands of decisions were made to make the movie. Just because you didn't like it doesn't make it valid. It just means you think it's bad. Which is fine. People have opinions, but you're not the end all be all of art. So yes, I get to say whiny babies over reacted and complained about the movie, you get to say you're not a whiny baby, the world will move on, and neither of our opinions are going to matter. I just hope you have better heroes, because Lucas is not a hero and Luke isn't real. Good luck in your search.

    Though Im not settled with the sequel trilogy, I recognize it but I chose to ignore it, I have to say that TLJ is quite cinematic and visually pleasing but what grudges me is how they handled the characters esp the legacy ones. I dont think a novelization of it wont be enough.
    But I do hope Leslye Headland sticks the landing of The Acolyte in terms of storytelling without incorporating whatever bullshit corporate agenda Disney is trying to push as well as its characters and paying respects to Legends. Taking to interesting locations from the sequel trilogy and connecting them is quite a risky move as it will further divide the fanbase, imho.

    "Shock Jocks".. is a term to describe various talking heads that say something, anything, that's shocking, controversial, and intentionally divisive, so as to garner attention. In sports talk, it's very common. But it's also common in social and political commentary. For some it's the only way for the to stand out from a crowd, to get clicks or views. If somebody powerfully reacts to an absurd comment, so much the better.
    I believe Rian Johnson's decisions in "The Last Jedi" were intentionally to shock the viewers. I believe when writing he thought to himself, 'what can I do here that will surprise the most people'.
    I hate to say this, but I'm starting to believe that Leslye Headland may be following in his footsteps.
    Rian Johnson had the "Whatever your Snoke theory is, it's wrong" message, and now Leslye Headland is following with "What you think The Acolyte will be, it won't."
    I will, of course, watch The Acolyte when it's available. I'll reserve judgement until after I see it.

    That island is sacred to both Sith and Jedi. As the first force users ,as we know them , Sith and Jedi were one people when they originally settled on that island. Then of course 1000s and 1000s of years ago the Sith broke off to form there Darkside groups and teachings. So you understand now Otco is scared to the Sith as much as it is to a Jedi. Octo is about balance in the force. Remember Rey see a place of light but also one of emence Darkness. Its all because Octo is blance in the force as dark as it is light, balance. So I believe at 1st those tricked or seeking darside knowledge hope to become the something of a "Grey" Jedi which lines up more with ancient ancestors that were neither Jedi nor Sith. But they will be as always underestimatimg the power of the Darkside and instead of something like a "Grey" they become Sith. Probably for the same reason there ancestors split in two. You need darl to balance light. All light all dark os impossible or extremely foolish even our everyday lives. It woild just be exacerbated 10 fold 8n the Star Wars Galaxy. Good thing its far far awy huh? 😂.
    May the force be with you ... as it is with me for I am Sith.

    Loved the Last Jedi, and loved Lukes arc. Made perfect sense to me that he would be a hermit, like Obi Wan. And Luke was always mercurial. Rushing off to face Vader, not listening to Yoda and Obi Wan, rash decisions. So much time had past between the second Death Star being blown up, Luke losing his father, and the events of the force awakens. Why would he just show up, after missing Hans death, not being in the force awakens at all, and be an old man but with no growth, all optimistic and a jedi master at the height of his strength? No, it always made sense that he would be a hermit, a farmer, and it gives his story even more depth to go from having cut himself off from the force to sacrificing himself to save the new rebellion. I cried when he showed up and said goodbye to Leia. All in all, a beautiful story for Luke. Would have it been better for him to have been in the Force Awakens? Maybe. But RJ did a remarkable job adding context to that odd ommision. This is just my opinion, and if it didnt hit for you, I get it. But to me, the last jedi was the shining jewel of the sequel trilogy, and my only complaint was that they didnt stick the landing with TROS.

    • @andsoistopped
      @andsoistopped Месяц назад +1

      This. 100%. The only way for Luke to have remained the archetypal hero was to not have a sequel. The first trilogy is romantic and inspiring and full of hope and optimism. But the reality is that just saving Vader wasn’t really going to solve much beyond the immediate Skywalker family. Yes the Empire was defeated but the galaxy is complex, dark and unsafe. The New Republic would be flawed and run by greedy and powerful people. The Jedi were flawed and even if Luke had set up a new academy that had worked they would still be flawed would make mistakes and the great suffering in the galaxy would continue much as it does in the real world.

    • @lukeorloki
      @lukeorloki Месяц назад

      @@jiffypoo5029 Yeah, it would be an interesting What If show to see what it would have taken for the Jedi to win against Palpatine. They could beat him in one-on-one combat but they would have to have been lucky to find out about Order 66 before the trap was sprung. Still if they had better realized the Sith would destroy them and the Republic maybe they could have saved at least a core of Jedi and maybe part of the Republic to start the Rebel vs the Empire war sooner.
      Since the Sith came from the Jedi order originally they are in a way the Jedi's original sin. If the leaders of the Jedi Council were keeping it secret from the rest of the Jedi Council that the Sith were active and plotting to destroy the Jedi Order for at least 100 years, that's not a matter of the Sith winning because of craft and guile. Hiding the presence of the Sith from council for over a hundred years would just seem stupid. I think (or at least hope) The Acolyte show will have come up with a better storyline than that.

    NGL, I liked The Last Jedi when I saw it in theaters, and was pumped about it for a week or two.
    Then people started hating on the Holdo maneuver and I was like, "Oh yeah... that does present problems for the lore..."
    Then I realized the main plot for the movie was a ship flying through space waiting to run out of gas.
    Then I realized the side plot(s) were the protagonists failing at the plans for no real interesting reason. And Rey teaching Luke humility.
    Then Rise of Skywalker came out and walked back a lot of what they did in TLJ, and none of the plot setups had any payoff, leaving me disappointed.
    So I can still watch the movie at least, but really it's a dumb movie that has a few entertaining parts, and one or two really actually good parts that stick with you, but as a part of the Star Wars saga it really has no right to remain in canon.

    That is why people watch ep 8
    But it started with J.J and not commit to 3 movies a to create an entire trilogy.
    That was what messed up star wars. Lucas could do do that in the past because.
    Star Wars was just one move. Now with a entire franchise you can not play small.

    with a good story and characters where you can understand the motivation of them.

    I’m a big fan of the Last Jedi and someone who absolutely hated The Rise of Skywalker. I would like to give you my reasoning for why I really appreciate Luke’s story in The Last Jedi. As someone in their early 60s, I understand how life’s disappointments can really disillusion someone who starts off life full of how they can help make a much better world. And the tragedy of what happened between Luke and his nephew, along with the subsequent destruction of his temple was certainly enough to have Luke questioning himself and everything he thought he believed in. The triumph of Luke’s story is how he rose above this low point. His ending accomplished 3 important things from my perspective. First, he did allow the remnant of the Resistance to escape. He also took the opportunity to apologize to his nephew. This was a significant character moment for both Luke and Ben Solo. Lastly, the story of his act lit a spark across the galaxy that was very needed at that moment. He transcended his dark period in what I considered a beautiful and inspirational way. I hope that this gives people an opportunity to look at Luke’s journey in The Last Jedi in a different manner if they really disliked it. I know that one of the big complaints was that it ruined the story of a major hero for some people. But I think that type of superhero, who has no flaws and never lets anyone down, is less inspiring than one who rises up and overcomes their self doubt. I know that there were a lot of people who felt it was very out of character for Luke. But I think if you really give The Return of the Jedi a close look, you can see that it was in character for Luke, who had his moments of self doubt and even the possibility of attacking his own father as the Emperor tried to manipulate him. I’m not trying to open up a can of worms. Just wanting to give people a different perspective. Unfortunately The Rise of Skywalker went a long way towards undoing what I saw as many of the themes of The Last Jedi. Whether this was because Disney/Lucas Films was reacting to the controversy of The Last Jedi and trying to self correct, or whether it was because the lack of planning a cohesive trilogy was becoming apparent, I don’t know. But I do think that those people who are fans of The Last Jedi are usually very big fans of it. The movie did receive a lot of praise from the movie critics after all. Perhaps as time moves on it will become less controversial and appreciated for what it is.
