If they ever were to "redo" the CGI faces, they should keep CLU as the original digital version. It makes sense, as CLU is a digital copy of Flynn and thus not a perfect copy of the real person.

@@LeMn680Opinions can be based off of what could be considered incorrect mindset or perspective however. For instance, Last Action Hero was panned by critics. But that was because they all went into it expecting another super serious Anold action vehicle instead of the hyper meta and self aware parody that was delivered. It was a movie that totally succeeded in it's goals but the critics at the time were not privy to what that goal was. They went in with flawed expectations. Critics have on many occasions admitted to being wrong in their initial takes on films after some time had passed and they were better able to understand what the film or filmmaker in question was actually trying to achieve

well i agree with the critics on this one. The cgi doesn't look as game-like as the original, it just looks like actors in greenscreen. The only thing i remember about the movie is Jeff played 2 parts, including the evil version of him, other than that i don't remember one single thing about the plot or movie. I remember a LOT about the original. How did a movie so long ago have better special effects, story and plot than this one.

Whether or not someone or something is “underrated” isn’t always based on opinion. As you should know, alot of movies are very very popular… therefore they’re not underrated at all, yet people still label them as underrated for some baffling reason. And when they were filming this (2008-2010, so 15 years ago), the LED technology wasn't as mature as it is now, so they were only able to film for a few minutes at a time before the batteries ran out and they had to recharge. The actors got a lot of skin burns and often weren't allowed to sit down in-between takes because the lights would snap. @@fwdcnorac8574It truly is heartbreaking really. You always want to have the glory of owning an Oscar, but at the same time, with how they really are today, it feels like they aren’t worthy of the films themselves they claim to represent. I along with so many people these days I am a big fan of animation in our 20s plus and the Oscars just don’t seem to represent this. so many animated movies are deserving of Oscars beyond just the single medium slot. They are put into but many of them that clearly deserve Oscars don’t even get nominated and I just pushed aside for Disney or Pixar because they didn’t get perhaps enough cinema screenings within a particular slot within the US themselves, which is so ridiculous.

    • @greenpiersystem
      @greenpiersystem 4 месяца назад +3

@@SupremeJudge Well, we need some sort of closure on the TV show and the Quorra situation, if possible.
Quorra is an enigma that Kevin quite possibly gave up his life to protect (seeing the ending as possibly a way to remove him from the series, but currently Jeff Bridges says he wants to go for round 3 if it's still on, so that can be rolled back as well) but we don't actually know what she's capable of. It's shown that she's capable of regeneration despite data corruption that would kill other programs instantly, and she's shown a level of intelligence that other programs don't, but we have no context as to how this will translate to the real world. And, to be completely frank, she doesn't have an ISO partner, so as crude as it is to talk about this, it isn't like she's going to be able to have ISO children in the real world, because anyone she goes up to, if interested, is fully human, which would only result in a hybrid on the Pudnit Square. And Clu was very diligent about killing ISOs, since the TV show Uprising showed that when Quorra had left some of her friends behind in an apartment they were hiding in, they were all killed in the short period she was gone, so the likelihood of pulling more ISOs out of the Grid is slim, if Kevin's Grid even exists still (because we also don't know, due to the lack of a direct sequel, if the blast from reintegration only took out the area immediately near the portal on the Sea of Simulation, or if it annihilated the whole Grid entirely, which would honestly be disappointing given that it would mean Tron would have been deleted right after changing back, and the entire Grid of programs was wiped out in the blast with no recourse.)
And we apparently have a Tron replacement resistance group that's been going on the past 20 years, because Tron was turned into Rinzler, and it's been a massive failure, but we have no idea what happened to those members, especially since some of the recruited programs went fucking insane and even homicidal.
There's world-building to be done. If they can build it right, there's a third movie. But 4, 5... no. But we need something to tie this up with a bow.

The explosion at the end was the "reintegration" that Quorra referred to earlier as a way to defeat Clu, but as she said it would, it came at the cost of Flynn's life. But the timing worked out right for Flynn at that moment, because he knew that not only would he be saving his son and allowing him to escape, but also saving and allowing Quorra to escape, which was likely a big reason he hadn't performed reintegration in the 20 years he was stuck on the Grid. As the last ISO, with her programmable DNA, she was the pinnacle of his life's work, his gift to the world, and it was explicitly stated she could save countless human lives (potentially even Sam's) from things such as disease. Incredibly underrated film and one of my personal favorites. And of course Daft Punk are absolutely god tier.

A lot of the stuff you guys seem to wanted to have covered are kind of covered in other Tron media, which also explore the world a lot more than Legacy ever really did, but Legacy was essentially a jumping off point. The 'program' that smuggled Quorra to safety that she mentions is actually from a video game called Tron Evolution, which covers more of the ISOs and sort of why CLU doesn't dig them. Tron Uprising, an animated TV series that only ever got one season because of a number of reasons but was well received, also explores the world a bit more (and has a really cool art style) with more conversations surrounding the ISOs but also introduces new characters and concepts and also kind of expands upon some ideas. I know you all mainly do movie reactions but a reaction to the Uprising series would be really cool (and definitely beneficial to your understanding/appreciation for the world).

This film holds up very well to repeat viewings. A lot of the subtext, subtleties and performances are designed to reward multiple viewings. You'll still discover new story or character details even after the 4th viewing.
The dialogue is sometimes simple or predictable, true. But I think one of its qualities to appreciate is that it has a very naturalistic style. You can predict the lines because it's simply how most people would react in that situation. And all of that is balanced by the moments of heavier philosophy and character development found elsewhere in the film.

I to this day still enjoy it a ton, and consider it my all time favorite movie. It has its issues and problems but I can look past all that for the amazing visuals and great story. Most sequels always go with this extra bright light over everything, while this had doom and gloom over its story, which it’s sad to me. When Sam and Flynn finally see each other again, it’s soooo touching. I think it definitely did great service to the first movie, and updated ideas and features. I for one think the way he materializes into the grid is just a new cool detail.
Also I know Flynn’s de-aging doesn’t look the greatest, but i’ll have you know it, this was actually one of the first films to actually start testing that out. And if it wasn’t for their innovations and push on the technology, we wouldn’t have what we do today. Stepping stones, stepping stones!

Weichi is a lot of fun but once you take it a little serious a game can easily last days or weeks. To summarize it without too much detail, you need to enclose and trap you enemy's stones while defending your positions. There are common maneuvres like "eyes" that are sought after as they cannot be taken down and corners and borders are strongly fought over to get into such positions. Basically, the game simulates a battlefield and you need to take up as much as the area as possible.

From the first scene, it introduces nothing - _nothing_ - that it doesn't pay off later. It's a heroes' journey you could basically use as a checklist. And the emotional/moral payoff of "leave parents, acquire girlfriend" is literally spelled out. It's an extremely simple story - but it's a _complete_ story; it does exactly everything it needs to do. You could use it to teach filmmaking. And of course, the graphics and music are gorgeous.

Keep in mind that, in fact, Kevin Flynn does not technically look his "normal age". In the grid, time proceeds at the speed of the computer, NOT the rate of time in the real world.
Roughly, every minute of "real" time is about an hour of "Grid" time...give or take. That means time proceeds at somewhere around 60x the rate of the real world.
Kevin Flynn has been trapped inside the Grid for between 1,000 and 2,000 years. As a user, he ages unlike all the programs. But because the Grid is what it is, he still ages at a rate that is consistent with the amount of real time that passes instead of Grid time.
Let that sink in... Between 10 or 20 CENTURIES...away from his son, away from the world he was born in. Trapped in a grotesquely twisted nightmare version of the paradise he tried to build for everyone. Remember that when you ponder this movie from now on.

At around 21:00 for the background of the crowd chanting "Disc Wars", they recorded it at a ComicCon panel. Had the entire audience chime in and be recorded so they could use it in the film.
Sadly the failure and overspending on Tomorrowland cost so much money they cancelled part 3. But in recent years it has reentered production with Jared Leto playing a role.
    Also:
    Great sequel
    Great effects/style
    Great soundtrack
I got to see it in 3D. And they kind of did something along the lines as The Wizard of Oz, which was billed as being "In Color" but starts in the sepia toned Kansas before transitioning to color in Oz in that everything early in the film was 2D and an almost 4:3 aspect ratio. When Sam is put into The Grid, it opens up to the wide screen aspect ratio and everything was in 3D. And in this case the 3D, being such high contrast compared to other settings from other films, everything really popped. It was amazing.

As an OG fan, I agree. I was mostly watching this for the updated visuals and of course Jeff Bridges being back. I did wish we got to see more of Bruce Boxleitner but I think there was a production/scheduling reason why he didn't end up being able to be in more of the film. The story wasn't amazing, but I think they did what they could within the confines of how kinda goofy the concepts of the original movie were, since the writers of the first Tron likely hadn't anticipated worldbuilding for sequels, how technology would actually evolve, or needing to reconcile what they'd originally come up with with that evolution.
The original Tron film has much more in common with other similar scifi concept films by Disney from the same era, eg. The Black Hole (1979), in that they're not super deep examinations of the actual science and technology, but really are metaphors for more familiar story structures: the folly of vanity, greed, obsession, the risk of faith in an unseen power, abuse of power vs. freedom/liberty. One could absolutely do the same thing using modern technology as a the metaphorical landscape, but it would probably be quite tricky to make that consistent with the same ones used in the original Tron, so these stories might just be more amenable to rebooting rather than sequel-ing.

If 1millicycle is meant to be the equivalent of 1 millisecond, and Kevin Flynn was on the Grid for 20 years, that would mean he experienced the equivalent of 131,072,000 years on the Grid.

When it came out when I was 12, Tron was absolutely amazing. Seeing Tron: Legacy in 3D in the theater was entirely mind-blowing. I have 2 movies I recommend above all others to see in 3D if possible, and this is one.

Here is a thought.... remember what Kevin said about "minutes in here is hours in the real world".... if Kevin has been gone for 20 years in the real world...... do you realize just how much time has passed for this very human individual???? 20 years equals about 10 and a half million minutes. 10 and a half million HOURS would translate into something in the vicinity of 1140 years on the grid...... how he hasn't gone insane from the longevity and isolation from other humans is just beyond me. Or how he even remembers having a son. Or remembering the world he came from.

I loved this movie. It looks so amazing. There's something special with all that black, blue, white and red. The music is great. The story may be a little generic, but visually, is stunning. Cinema is entertainment, I felt very entertained during its runtime.
Always waiting to know what happened after they escaped riding that bike in the sunrise. Olivia Wilde, is so beautiful and I wanted more, I have to say...

Sam's Grandmother was played by Belinda J Montgomery. About the time the first Tron came out, she was in a TV series with Patrick Duffy called "Man from Atlantis"

Huge fan of Legacy, with one very particular, very biting exception. There was a tie-in game. Was pretty fun, and covered the events that led to Flynn's disappearance and the state of the Grid in Legacy. You play Anon, basically a non-clone version of CLU hand-written by Flynn to be the system administrator for the Grid. You meet many of the same characters, Quorra, Gem, Zuse, probably some others. The are actually two antagonists, one super-virus big-bad-boss, but the second half of the game is after you witness Clu's betrayal. In the end, you help Quorra escape, sacrificing yourself. So, when she says 'a sympathetic program smuggled me out of the city', I get a little grumpy. ISO, I *died* for you!

By the way i believe there is a cartoon they made after Legacy released. I haven't watched it yet, but maybe there's some neat stuff in there. It might be on Disney+.
I think some of the things in the story you wanted to see expanded weren't there because they were planning a new trilogy or whatever. I think they originally were going to crank these out faster, but then Legacy didn't do as well as they hoped maybe and so they put it on hold. I think they might have explored things in future sequels basically. I never really expect the introductory movie of a trilogy to have a lot of answers, but to... re introduce things in this case and update them for us. I dunno if I'm writing this to make sense haha. But whenever you plan a trilogy it's a risk, due to possibility the intro movie doesn't do as expected, so anything you planned to explore later isn't as important to include in the first movie.

Awesome reaction! I agree that the story is a bit weaker.
Personally, I always believed that Tron: Uprising is without question the best told story of the Tron franchise.
Tron: Uprising is an animated series that deals with the fascist uprising of Clu and the attempt by Tron to raise a revolution and fight back before the start of this movie.
Also, the artwork and character designs for Tron: Uprising were created by the same artist who does the art for the Gorrillaz music videos. A very odd, unique, and fluid artstyle.

"It's all in the wrist" is a line from the first movie, and it's said in the video game prequel that came out with this one.

My dad had watched the original Tron when he was younger, and then when Legacy got announced he was ecstatic to get me to see it with him in theaters
We did, and I was utterly blown away by both the effects (we watched it in the "real-D 3D" special feature) and of course the Daft Punk soundtrack
We then immediately rented the original through Netflix, then headed right back to the theater to rewatch Legacy and loved it even more with the new(/rekindled) knowledge
The tv series, Uprising, was damn good as well, set during and then after the events of Legacy through the eyes of one of the programs on the Grid

This was I believe the very first attempt at digital de-aging a character. And it's janky, but surprisingly good considering it was the first time.
It was also the first use of EL (electro luminescent) wire and strips in a costume. It was really new tech at the time this came out. So ALL of the light effects on the suits are actually practical. They have battery packs and just turn them on before a take. So they get all that light bouncing around and such in camera.

Fun fact: There were exactly two instances in movies where I heard an announcement that completely baffled me and I was like "HUH???? 🤨🤔
NO WAY this can turn out to be good!"
One was Heath Ledger being announced to play the Joker.... 😅🤭
And the other one was DAFT PUNK (whom I adored up to that point) being announced to compose film music....
    😂🤣
Well, turned out Tron: Legacy became my #1 all time favorite movie for a short while..... 🥰
