The Soundtrack incorporated both Classical & Electronic music, and took almost 2 years to be completed, and Joseph, who is the director of the movie, approached Daft Punk before any principal photography, so this movie is like a Big Music Video for Daft Punk's soundtrack.

I love the religious undertones with this movie. You have Flynn as God, Clu as his spirtiual doppleganger, Son born in the grid/Lucifer and Sam, his biological son. Its really a story about two sons trying to please their father. That scene during the flashback with Clu asking Flynn if he still wants him to create the perfect system and Flynn repliing "Yeh.". That right there is the moment he choses to go through with the betrayal but really, its more like Clu like double checking and making sure his creator/father still wants that purpose from him because he sees Flynn as the one betraying him and his original purpose and ideals. Curious what the reaction would have been had Flynn answered differently there.
Or the ending bridge scene when Clu realizes the swap of the disc and asks Flynn "Why?" and Flynn saying "He's my son.". You can feel the confusion and jealously there with Clu because he most likely sees himself as Flynn's son too and feels so broken that his creator cares more for the "User Son" then him. There is the whole theme of him probably wanting to be "Human". Qarra even tells Clu he's not worth standing with the Users? Lots of different themes going on here and its honestly wonderful.
Its such a well-done sequel honestly that I look at other sci-fi sequels w'eve gotten over the years and they don't do such a good job. Quantumania for example feels like a copy of Tron: Legacy but worse in every considerable way vs this which has these very strong theme that its focuses on to tell its story and drive its characters forward. Plus, that banging Soundtrack helped alot along with the visuals which look really, really good. Maybe not Clu, but considering who and what Clu is, the visuals are fine. But to think they perfected that Young aging visual effects in the Marvel films like 4 or 6 years after this film is crazy.
Looking forward to the third film but at the same time Im worried. There was a clear direction they were going for that Legacy set up that the third one is obviously not going to follow through with. Plus, Jared Leto is in it as the lead and yeh, he's presence does not inspired confidence at the threequel being as good as this one. I hope it is good. I hope they bring Daft Punk back to score the film.

TRON: Legacy actually expanded from just the film with it's tie-ins. There was an ARG (alternate reality game) called Flynn Lives, that users participated in before the release of the film. It included things like live scavenger hunts, comic con events (including one where Bruce Boxlietner and Cindy Morgan reprised their roles as Alan and Lora to make announcement for ENCOM with Sam crashing it in stylish fashion, videos of the event can still be found on RUclips) and even internet related activities (which includes one where it's reveal that the Flynn Lives group hacked an older telephone system that connected to the Grid system, which allowed for the page CLU sent to Alan's pager to get through), with it concluding with a free complete screening of the film in certain cities before the actual release of the film (which I got a chance to see before most of everyone else). There was a comic book called TRON: Betrayal that details Flynn's life with his wife before the birth of Sam and the early days of the Grid. There is also TRON: Evolution the video game, which takes place during the events of The Purge, which includes the player character being there to witness CLU turning on Flynn as seen in the film). There was also an animated series called TRON: Uprising that unfortunately lasted only for one season, which Bruce Boxlietner reprised his role of TRON. The closest thing to a sequel we get to the events of the film is a short film called The Next Day which is featured on the DVD and Blu-Ray, which takes place the day after the ending of the film and features another TRON cast member showing up in it and hints at what would have happened for TRON 3 (before Disney cancelled it due to the failure of Tomorrowland and John Carter at the box office).
I love TRON. I remember growing up with it on VHS, and remember renting it from a mom and pop video store called Video Center USA (years later, I actually found the exact copy I rented at a Goodwill that I bought). To me, TRON was my Star Wars. And I was just as pissed off as Bruce Boxlietner was when Disney cancelled the third film, which he swore that he would never be involved in another TRON project again (I don't know if he's mellowed out or not in regards to if he'd ever come back or not, but I commend him for saying so).

This movie really was the "New Star Wars": an evil group in control, a rebel faction trying to restore order, a young hero, a rebel princess, a self-sacrificing, wise mentor, a "don't get cocky" turret scene, no handrails, a huge explosion in the final act, and a fantastic soundtrack. It was so much better than the other Star Wars remake that came out a few years later, JJ's episode 7.

OG Tron was one of the movies of my childhood that kept me locked on a computer, hacking away at things trying to learn as much as I could. Unlike now being a nerd and geek wasn’t even close to the cool pop culture thing it is now, we were outcasts who wanted to escape the hell that was our reality of being constantly put down for what we enjoyed. While building the early Internet in the early to mid 90’s, Tron was one of the movies we’d put on in the office, while pushing the limits of the tech, to do things even close to what we saw on screen.
I simply adore this movie, they paid homage to the original, modernized it, extended the storyline well and added a kick ass soundtrack. But this time as I’m watching it I’m doing so as a very well paid security manager, but still doing what I did then: making computers do things they’re not supposed to do.
I hope this sequel inspires others to go create something great.

I love this movie. There are two things that stand out for me. First, it was loud in-theater, but in a great way. The TRON intro vibrated the seats and the walls and it was awesome...I still use the opening to show off my home theater setup. The second one is that this was probably the 2nd best representation of 3-D in theaters (behind the original, trend-setting 'Avatar') I've ever seen. In mirroring the black-and-white-to-color magic that was used to separate Kansas from Oz in 'The Wizard of Oz', all of the real-world stuff was 2-D and when Sam got zapped into The Grid it went 3-D...one of the best transitions ever and it was stunning.
Disney sidelined the TRON franchise when they purchased Lucasfilm and Marvel to their detriment. The short-lived 'TRON:Uprising' animated series tried to continue to expand the world (and was pretty awesome) but it only got one season. Original sci-fi doesn't come around very often. Steve Lisberger created this world way before its time, TRON:Legacy showed there was still interest, and TRON:Ares is in pre-production now...let's hope it actually is completed and rekindles excitement in this IP.

Right around '98-99, I had an idea for a Tron sequel based on the Y2k issue. In the story, Encom is either shutting down non-compliant servers or moving data from them to newer systems. The hero of the story discovers a server farm that was isolated from the main network. Like the sequel, Flynn had returned and got trapped in the Grid. The server running the Grid isn't Y2k compliant, and the year 2000 means the end of times for the residents of the Grid. The only person at the company that is familiar with the older equipment is Alan Bradley, and he must use Tron to rescue Flynn. Time is running out.

I remember watching this movie in the cinemas in 3D. Blew my mind. The very unique visuals, the amazing soundtrack and the atmosphere of the whole thing. Loved it. Watch it yearly, and bought the soundtrack as soon as it was available. Listening to it often its such a boss music.

I remember watching the ads for this movie on Disney channel when I was 9/10 and begged my grandma to take me to take me to see it. I watched it once and really enjoyed it but it wasn't till I was around 13 and I got my own bluray player for the first time (granted, my family had been really poor until the last few years at that point, so a bluray player was like precious alien tech to me) Tron Legacy and the first Avengers movies were the two blu ray films my uncle let me borrow and I watched them REPEATEDLY. Probably over a hundred times bc I was so excited to have a bluray player*. I came to have a lot of love for Legacy, despite its flaws. People definitely weren't kind to the film when it came out, undeservedly so.

“Tron: Uprising” is a TV series on Disney+ that takes place between “Tron” & “Tron: Legacy”. It shows what happened to The Grid and more of how CLU got to power. 17:46 I think it’s interesting how Flynn was able to create “food” to keep himself fed & healthy. 20:26 that’s Michael Sheen. He’s starring with David Tennant in a Amazon Prime show called “Good Omens”. They just released a second season to it. 21:55 I don’t think they have “pants” if you watched when Sam got his disc and outfit it was like nanobytes. 24:27 that’s why when Sam fought him earlier Rinzler stopped when he saw the drop of blood from Sam. His “Tron” program was still in there somewhere. 26:05 there will be a new Tron in 2025 called “Tron: Ares” with Jared Leto. From what I’ve read it sounds like a program succeeds where CLU failed.

I saw the original movie of TRON back in 1982 when I was a little boy. And it’s been my favorite movie ever since. When TRON: LEGACY was released I was so jazzed seeing another Tron movie. Fun fact: the bartender at the End Of Line is the original director of the first movie of TRON-Steven Lisberger.

Love this movie, the grid is so immersive as a world not many sci-fi sets can make me completely suspend my disbelief like it does. Also, of course, this soundtrack is a masterpiece and probably my favorite movie soundtrack of all time. Anyway, glad your wife seemed to enjoy it, although, I man I wish this movie was out in 4k w/ HDR it would look and sound so much better.

My memory of seeing the original Tron in theaters is thinking that it was just ok, but knowing that this was, more or less, the beginning of the computer age in movies and real life. But what stuck out for me was watching the credits roll and hearing Journey's Only Solutions for the first time. I got chills.

I remember watching this in theaters. My first IMAX experience and man it was one of the best ever. I loved this movie so much. If you guys haven't seen Tron Uprising (an animated show with Elija Woods), I'd recommend that as well. A good filler between the original Tron to this one. Also if you like the aesthetics of this movie, you should check out "Oblivion" by the same director. Such a beautiful looking movie.

I think that the story matching the time elapsed in the real world and the upgraded games on the grid made the movie. The soundtrack also helped in the immersion. I wonder if they will make realistic VR environments for the third movie. Like The Matrix.

After seeing how other franchises from the 80s have fared with new movies in modern times, Tron: Legacy is one of the best of that crop, by default because it doesn't try to tear down what came before.

Honestly, your intro about 'finding out' that this movie wasn't all they well received is news to me. Over the years I'd read the odd comment thread when some site would have an article about this instalment and it was generally people lamenting there would (at the time) never be another one made, that the higher-ups didn't feel enough was made back to warrant another one. So generally I thought the fan-base was pretty positive about it.
p.s. I don't take big bang theory as any general gauge/pulse on matters, but then again I never watched it, lol.
p.p.s. You should check out Michael Sheen in The Queen; great performance in a flick I wouldn't generally ever think to watch, but is really well done and captivating (multiple watch viewer here). You don't even have to do a posting on it, just on yer own time to watch, it's so well done.

I like this one, it's a great update with the graphics and storyline with Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner reprising their roles. The first one was classic and just different for its time, but the concept really stood out. Nice reaction. Cogent story and all the actors did a good job.

The best way to think of the difference between the Programs and The ISOs is like the difference between creationism and evolutionism.
The Programs are beings that were created by The Users (Humans from the real world) and because of this they basically look at them like gods, they're even literally created in their User's, their God's image.
Isometric Algorithms or ISOs were created spontaneously, no one created them, they were born through random events that created the exact right conditions for their birth, just like how evolution works. Evolution is (and I could be wrong about this explanation and if I am do correct me) basically traits and mutations that are beneficial to a species being passed on from parent to child and the creatures that don't have these traits die off because the ones that do have a distinct advantage that helps them survive (survival of the fittest and all that). However, even then, life had to have come from somewhere and many believe that life just came to be at random through random events that lead to the exact right conditions for life to start.
That's why the ISOs were such a big deal to Flynn, these were a form of life that just came to be on their own without any intelligence influencing their creation. It's like if God created life and somewhere else where God wasn't looking, life sprang up on it's own without his knowledge.

This is one of my all time favourite films. I love the original and this was amassive step up. I saw it twenty five times in Cinemas. Because it wasn't just a film but an experience. My dad was brought on to work on the full size Light Cycles which they 3D scanned for both the film and for promotional events. Geeked out every time seeing it up close.

Amazing movie, and a soundtrack that has been a mainstay on all my music lists. Goosebumps everytime on the intro with Flynn narrating.
At first I had the same reaction to the actor playing his son, but if you think about it: he has the same overconfidence and aloofness Flynn has in the first movie, plus he's a cushy millionaire's son who probably has never had to think about a decision in his life. At the same time, you see the same idealism and rebellion in him.
But let's face it: Daft Punk is what makes this movie come together. It's so, so GOOD!

I also saw the film 4 times in theaters. The rewarding of multiple viewings is one of the qualities of the film that i like the most about it. There are enough subtleties, subtext, symbolism and Easter eggs to the story and performances that you can watch the film multiple times and still come out of the experience noticing new story details and character beats (some of which are, by design, impossible to catch during one's first viewing).
