What's The REAL Cost Of Building A 60's Mopar Muscle Car? Well I Ain't Cheap...

  • My 1968 Plymouth Satellite is all together and I've been driving it daily, enjoying every mile. This wasn't the cheapest way to bring an old muscle car back to life but I didn't sacrifice anything for safety.
I spent money where it was needed in the floors, quarters, brakes and suspension. It may not be the absolute prettiest but I guarantee it's one of the most solid B bodies on the road.

I think you did great Dan, if you've had offers in the high teens. The profit is rarely worth the labor involved. But one thing for sure, you brought enjoyment to the people watching.Thank for that.

I'd say you made out great overall. As we learned from C.A.R.'s generous donation, there still is a brotherhood of car enthusiasts out there who enjoy helping each other, as it was in my '60's hot rodding days. Channels like yours are bringing that camaraderie back, which I think is great. You're motivating, helping and making friends, which is worth more than $. You can drive it for a while, and still sell it for a profit, even considering your labor. Can't say that about a new car bought from a dealer. Thumbs up!

I don't count my time, because I enjoy doing this, its therapy to keep me busy so my mind doesn't go bad places (result of war and a hard life growing up) my focus is on driving them after the build. Its not the car itself, its not the status or 'look what I have' thing either, no for me its all about what I can do with them. They are the medium in which my abilities, knowledge, and intellect can be measured and weighed to see where I am in the learning process. Getting it done for less than $10k when its a mopar is impressive.

Nice to see what the actual $$ amount was. We can see the time spent is significant also! We've followed along, and it was only in 20 minute increments! Your time to edit, and stuff we didn't see behind the scenes. It's a lot of time commitment. Thank you for giving us a chance to see what all goes into this! It has both inspired me, and made me realize it's a big time commitment, and money pit. Nice job, Dan. I check both Facebook and Craig's List frequently, and a satellite like yours would easily go for that high teens (American!) any day of the week, so your labor was well spent. But don't get rid of it - I think you would enjoy it more as a daily driver than the Challenger, although it will be interesting to see how that ends up when you get done with your proposed changes to make it streetworthy. Thanks for the entertainment. And Danni, thanks for the filming, support and chuckles, keeping Dan honest!

The trick with anything in life is don't get overwhelmed, stick to the plan and don't spend what you can't afford (remember it's a hobby). It might mean doing some horsetrading , swapping work and taking some time off from a project but it will get done. It's like real estate, collector cars have their ups and downs but if you do as much as you can yourself you will prevail. Good job Danny Boy!

When you add 200 hours of labor and a fair market value for the donated 440 you have over $25k in the car. You prob can get $20k for it and you might make $5k in youtube money from the series so yea its a win. Plus it was fun to go along for the ride on this build! Mopar ✊🏁

I've seen cars painted with blackboard paint! the walk around analysis with costs written on each part reminds me of Thoreau when He said, " I see the tree not as the Woodcutter, in board feet, but as a whole... (paraphrased)". The Car(Tree), the woodcutter,(Dan), But See transcendentally it seems as Dan is both the woodcutter, and Thoreau, the whole from its parts a sum greater and intangible from the mathematical total.

I have a '60 Fury me getting ready to build. Hard to say cost's on like the engine. It came out of my '65 Sport Fury, $200.00 for car. But engine kit was $850.00, cam $350.00, springs $150.00, no machine shop yet. Body parts trunk floor, right outer drop down and trunk seal, $600.00. Inner fender wells $385.00, both front fender rear drop downs $125.00, Rocker panels $98.00, left front frame nose and corner window trim $128.00, all rubber seals $425.00, front end rebuild $350.00, fender mounted turn signal kits (less housings) $89.00, mirrors $45.00 and few other things. Still want front buckets for it.
