So yeah, last week WE WERE LUCKY, and it’s a good lesson in anchoring whilst not suffering the consequences, so Ill call that a win, win. After all, we don’t learn without mistakes. Now that the anchor is up and we are safely in a few hundred feet of water, where exactly are we going? Well this is the beginning of our first overnight passage on Boundless. We will be sailing across the Gulf of Panama in a westerly direction, making sure to dodge the shipping traffic along the way. And you’re in for a treat because the beauty of Panamas Western Pacific coast is on our short list of the most beautiful sights ever. Even when the weather changes and we get chased out of our anchorage, the dolphins come out to play, highlighting the silver lining of the moment.
So, just like that we were off, threading Boundless between a few outlying islands making sure to double check our charts before hitting the open ocean. We are expecting very calm conditions and possibly motoring the entire day and night, but with the huge tidal currents, and high winds forecasted that oppose them for half of every day over the next week, this is exactly what we were looking for to cross the Gulf of Panama and round Punta Mala. We’ve had an epic adventure buying Boundless, transiting the Panama Canal, and cruising the San Blas and las Perlas islands, but this moment feels different. Like we’ve truly untied the lines and set off on a grand adventure into the unknown. Who will we meet? What will we see? Where will we go and how long will we stay?

Have you sailed overnight? Tell us a story in the comments ❤⛵
I've imagined a 1700s tall ship on the horizon AND 10 degreed an autopilot around a drilling platform moving 3/4 nts
This is my second ever time watching sea wind. Absolutely extraordinary photography, cinematography, and fabulous music. Really really well done. I love the way you explain things what you’re doing why you’re doing it etc.
Katie, I’m so sorry that you got bit by such a nasty whatever that was Hope the effects of it were not long lasting.
Look forward to the next one. Fairwinds at your back. Sending love from LIZ in California.🤟🏻😎💜⛵️🇺🇸
Wonderful video! Katy is so sweet. Even while describing the pain of the bug bite the gentleness of her soul was obvious.
Another great episode of your adventure. Go Boundless!
Great catching a Mahimahi now to watch you cooking it . We love watching the cooking , whether fish or whatever 😊
Grow channel grow!!! Greetings from Sweden. Enjoying the content big time.
The music…mountains, and sea soaked in that pale blue light at sunrise 20:18 was magical…
For all the beautiful footage, opening up your world to us in such a friendly way. I am continuously amazed by the quality of your video’s, the insight into your lives and the respect you guys show for life and nature. I will keep following your journeys and hope you are able to continue the path you’re on. Thanks you very much.
Great content!! Love your attitude toward the life of a fish. I’m the same way. Hard for me to kill anything. Katie is a real gem! Cool young lady! Obviously so intelligent.
Good video you guys, good job I enjoyed it, when I was 16 used to sail a 28 Columbia to Catalina from Los Angeles all the time with one of Dad's friends....currently on my grand banks 36 left Detroit in September, sitting in st Augustine Florida now.....come on up see us hahaa
I never have removed the skin on salmon and steelhead when fishing in the northwest, nor store bought. Highest concentration of omega-3, collagen and other nutrients. Plus the crispy taste is delicious to me - adds some texture.
Rub some olive oil on the skin before cooking to prevent sticking.
Yum!
You are sailors on the ocean - enjoy the bounty of the sea! I recently bought a salmon fillet for $17/lb! 😁
Yes, I've sailed overnight. My longest was from Nuka Hiva in the Marquesas to Panama City. At one point, we were on the same tack for over 2 weeks. I love the ocean when you can see nothing but water, clouds, and stars at night. I felt for you watching this passage. I hate motoring. But the northern trip from Panama to Baja is just that. I think the best route for that is to sail to Hawaii, then north to catch the northern winds into California.
Thank you for your reminder of how beautiful life is… ups and downs, highs and lows. God Bless you both with long life, prosperity and joy!
Fin skute. Gøy å følge med ferden videre!
I just think it's so fascinating that the dolphins turn sideways to see u it's amazing that they know it's a boat and people are watching them
You two are so rewarding to watch, thank you for the videos.
I happened to research Assassin Bugs recently, for some odd reason, it is good to know the bite is as painful but benign as they said. Apparently only bite (humans) when 'threatened'. They eat other bugs so probably good to have one on board.
I think we have a gecko or two living in our bilge which is good for bugs too 🤣 It was scary when she got bit in the middle of the night, 20 miles offshore. Makes us think about allergic reactions in remote places!
@@Boundless_Adventure Ohj I can imagine how worrisome that could be.
I had read the bite was very painful but not toxic or venomous (the change of allergies aside). After this episode, if I ever stick my foot in a shoe, or under a bean bag, and get bit I will feel a bit less trepidation. Than you for 'breaking the ice'. ;-)
Yea your officially boundless!Love the new adventure, be safe, can'the wait for the next.
Dolphins!!!! A very nice episode. Cheers!
Dolphins are always great 😊 thank you!
I haven't sailed yet, but you all make me want to get started sooner. Happy sailing!
It's a beautiful way to experience the world!
Boundless always impresses.. great boat in great shape
She sure is an amazing boat ❤️
I love watching your sailing adventures and the small repair and upgrade segments. Keep posting please many other sailing RUclips people have recently quit sailing or quit posting
We aren't going anywhere ❤️
Nice Video Guys! Miss you both.
I really appreciate that this vlog has many nuances and bits strung together to create a magical experience. I especially like how gentle and loving you are to Katy.
Love your videos!
Be safe. Love you guys.
Looks so beautiful and peaceful, great job on our overnight passage.
Thank you! Sailing overnight is always a beautiful experience. This first one with calm conditions was a nice easing back into these passages
Great visuals. The dolphins are magnificent creatures. Good job on the video!
Thank you very much! Always love dolphins 😊
Glad that you made t to a safer and smoother anchorage. I probably would have gotten seasick in that other anchorage with boundless bouncing all over the place. 😮
Skining a fish is pretty easy. You first cut it from the bones (that's the difficult part). Then you lay one half fish skin side down on your cutting board. You start at the tail cutting with a big knife slightly angled towards the cutting board. For a quite large fish like the one you caught, you could also cut steaks. Cutting the steaks from the bones is pretty easy. And then again skin side down and cutting along the cutting board.
When possible, swing by a floating log or stump when you have a fishing line in the water. Smaller fish stay by the flotsam with the bigger fish circling around.
Thats a good idea! I've heard that they hang out under floating objects
@@Boundless_Adventure It worked when we fished off Contadora Island in 1974.
Great episode! Loved it.
Thanks so much!
7:30 … 🧨
I'm looking at the Passport 42' as well (also the 47'). Any regrets? They seem like really solid boats.
❤
Your videos have a delicious, peaceful quality. Parker's voice is not the same, but his speech patterns remind me of Marty Stauffer (sp?), easy to listen to and clearly spoken. Katy is rich in peace and always lovely. If I had a wife like her, I'd quit work and stay home. Oh! You have! Fair winds, and maybe I'll see you out there as I am leaving for my journey in July.
Thank you so much for the compliments 😊 We are very grateful for this beautiful life together ❤️ Where are you located? Hope to cross paths someday!
I got tired just watching Katy cranking that sail!
Haha!! When we first went sailing on Boundless, before the new halyards and spraying a dry teflon lubricant on the mainsail slides in the track, it was SO much harder to hoist the sail! It's much better now, but it is still a much higher hoist than Seawind 😬
Luna menguante
Are you carrying some Benadryl or antihistamines on board? Lots of biting bugs!
How are y’all filming? Is there some kind of smart drone that works on its own? If so I need all that info .
What kind of remote work do you two do via the starlink/internet, other than your youtube channel?
I manage mostly everything with our RUclips channel, and Katy has a full time job based in the US, that is 100% remote. She has a 4 day work week (monday-thursday) and her boss and coworkers are very supportive of our lifestyle 😊
In the beginning I didn't see any jack lines to clip into...
We have jack lines, haven't set them up yet. Shame on us really, but thankfully the weather was calm and there wasn't any situations that we needed to go forward for other than hoisting the main. We were tethered into the cockpit!
hey, I've noticed S/V spear it animal uses a lure called a cedar plug red head plain wood cedar and those guys are slaying it with Mahi Mahi. every time you do a panoramic of your boat I still can't believe how gorgeous it looks, you really got a winner with that one. I hope you can claim that boat on your taxes as a floating office and the WIFI to.... ʕ•́ᴥ•̀ʔっ
Great video and editing. Might I suggest more evergreen content. The “how to” and “diy” videos create repeat views. Don’t know how that helps your wallet, but more equals gooder, right?
It has to be tough to live on the ocean but you don't like to catch fish.
why not let the current carry you...engines off?
In this particular situation, Katy had work calls the next morning, so we were thankful that we had the current with us. It allowed us to arrive earlier in the morning so she could have some breakfast before starting work

Hey, there is nothing wrong with taking the life of any animal, as long as you use it to nourish your body. God gave us domain over all animals for a reason, especially fish. It's when we hunt for sport that it's a problem. But the thrill of the hunt is always fun and exciting. Nice job reeling that delicious Mahi -mahi in, one of my favorite fish to eat.
What I hear is when women are sailing when you can bring your female friend on board if it’s just the to of you all the time What I have seen it fails
