  • 2016 Australia Day long weekend saw these poor inexperienced car owners bog their car on the beach. The forster shark boys were on hand to assist and add some comic relief.

    Unfortunately a few months after a Moreton trip and helping about 8 people out of miscellaneous bogs, I learnt that my utes chassis had twisted ever so sligtly due to the repeated snatch shocks. Some people might think it slack to leave someone bogged but after that kind of vehicle damage its not worth the risk. If they're not in danger, then they can call a professional towie, if in danger then definitely help on the spot.

    About as hilarious as a broken leg (compound fracture (Tib/fib) I used to fish Stockton a fair bit and every Sunday there would be the usual mum dad and kids in the new 4x4 bogged to the gunwales. Tyres too hard etc. Nothing wrong in that, it's called experience. But it's the drunken idiot crashing thru dunes which were trying to be stabilised and leaving their crap everywhere that stuffs it up for everyone else.

    About as hilarious as catching your todger in a mouse trap...

  • @harveysmith100
    @harveysmith100 6 лет назад +15

    Not a Jeep fan but it is the fault of the tyres not the vehicle.
    Low profile tyres should never ever be fitted to a 4x4. There is no room to lower the pressure, if you do, there is a good chance of damaging the side walls.
    These companies, and Land Rover is guilty as well, are selling the 4x4 image but are assuming that people won't actually go off road so they fit low profile tyres. Very dangerous. Lot's of cases of people lowering low profiles in the bush and ending up being stranded due to multiply sidewall failure.

    • @Rumpole1000
      @Rumpole1000 6 лет назад +2

      Quite right. Companies put road tires on because they know that 95% of people will never take it off road (but want to give the impression they do). If you buy a 4x4 (even if its a jeep) at the very least put some good quality AT 'All Terrain' tires on.

    • @cliffbooth7075
      @cliffbooth7075 6 лет назад +1

      The 4x4’s with lower profile tyres on sand are asking to get bogged. The tyres can’t be lowered to proper sand pressures. I hate 4wds with 17 inch rims or greater. 18 inch just defeats the purpose.

      The idiot behind the steering wheel is “THE BIGGEST PROBLEM”, then of course the “choice of vehicle” , being the next problem.

    • @johnnytorres277
      @johnnytorres277 5 лет назад

      @@Rumpole1000 Although yes low profile tires are terrible for off road , I bought a Tacoma Sport 4x4 with all season highway Toyo A30 tires and it has done really well off road. Once they wear out, I'll get some good all terrains but 4wd with decent clearance and all-season tires does surprisingly well in mild to medium trails.

    • @bgw500
      @bgw500 5 лет назад

      My jeep has 20 inch rims because it's the top of the range. Comes with everything you need and all the 4wd equipment and goodies and then they go and defeat the purpose by fitting it with 20" rims. Having said that I haven't been stuck in soft sand yet.

      It is a smart option to take if a) you have lockers and know how I self recovery, and b), you are in dangerous and shifting conditions like they are as the recovery vehicle can find themselves in worse trouble just as quick!

    • @patrickswayze2596
      @patrickswayze2596 6 лет назад

      Just a quick flick back to 2x4 and just bury the rear tyres enough to keep anchored, but not enough you can pop back out of again once you Re engage 4x4
      But as mentioned, using another vehicle would have been much more considerate of the other drivers

      Took my AWD Kluger with big 19” rims on the beach - went fine! tyre pressures down to 18psi, centre diff locked and traction control full turned off. It got up the very steep and chopped up entrance no worries and even passed a Prado bogged down to its axels as they didn't air down...

    • @Sydney-Ghumo
      @Sydney-Ghumo 3 года назад +1

      @@dartanion0075 I have a Kluger AWD with the 19” rims, and it goes up just fine. Air down to 14-16 psi, press Traction Control for more than 3 seconds to turn it off completely, and use the central diff lock.
      The 19” rims are not a good idea though, considering they are mostly cosmetic on-road purpose, but have had no functional issues with them there.
      Make sure to wash your car when you get back though, specially the undercarriage.
