im no expert but from what i saw, the hard steel chassis bottomed out on the dirt, causing the tyres momentum to dig into the corner of the dirt wall. for a moment in time the entire car’s weight was suspended on the underside of the chassis; as the tyre’s suspension slowly caught up with the car. My thought was, if the tyres had more rigidity and psi, then perhaps the car wouldnt have bounced and well. i dont really know but im just pointing out the obvious ideas i had. Monster trucks flip all the time, but have you ever seen a drift car flip! very unlikely because less bouncy.

Widow is best handled slow, controlled and smarter lines. Patrol owners tend to drive all right foot and little else. Hence why after the second bounce back his lift was working against him and he needed to tow.
Dead right. I did the entire thing in 1st low in a 79, diff locks not engaged. 90% of the bogged vehicles I see is too much lead foot & tire pressure & not enough steady driving

If you review his 1st attempt, you should notice his left rear axle moved forward. Someone on the hill should have said something about the movement of the axle. The hardware holding it together may have fractured. It couldn't support the weight on the hill. I could see this problem. Why didn't someone tell him. If someone did and he did it anyway then that's on him.
@@pathbelow6652 I completely agree but I'm pretty sure that the reason it moves is due to the suspension geometry. The short links let the rear end unload and instead of pushing the vehicle forward it pushes it upward

Pride and joy? My pride and joy is my drag car(mustang) being a pride and joy I take care of it. My off road truck is just that, an off road truck. 91 ranger with 35"s and welded diffs. my thoughts: a great exemplary recovery, it hurts seeing that rig rolling down (and that is not about money ) and I am glad to see the driver in rather good health walking away; but I have to say the suspension seems quite soft or overladed and after the first two trials maybe looking for a different line or winching would have been less (pride) damaging but the driver then just wanted it so badly to wok out (what we all understand) and the car one goatish ... a lesson learned for all of us - and before every picks on me: I know it is easy to be smarter afterwards as a non concerned.
Glad you are ok. There were multiple clues this was a bad idea. Never bounce a rig and never allow that front end to come up so high. The high lift and springy suspension also didn't help. Sometimes the best way is to walk away. Trucks have a reverse great for a reason. After multiple informatively failed attempts, caution gets thrown to the wind and this is the result.
Brilliant video. That was one of the best recoveries I"ve seen in ages, controlled, slow. Good job. We've all been in a situation when we've tried something we realise we shouldn't have after the fact. I've never rolled, only broken stuff. But it's all part of off roading, you try things and learn about not only your capabilities but also your cars' limitations. Thankfully, everything turned out ok. Cars can be replaced, we can't.

Really easy to see what should have been done when attempting that with the benefit of slow motion replay but when it's happening live and you're not expecting it then shit like this catches you off guard real easy. Good recovery with one coordinator and everyone cooperating well. Hope you guys could at least salvage a decent amount of gear
That sucks. Did the car have lockers? Personally as I’m getting older if you can’t creep up it with lockers I don’t hit it. Momentum is where things break and get dangerous. Obviously this is written off yeah? Or is it fixable??
Glad everyone got out of this ok, you guys stood at the side were probably the luckiest! Can't help but think why a third attempt was made, second try looked sketchy enough!
Centre of gravity is way too high in that car due to excessive lift and the accessories stuck all over it. Every add on above drive line height makes it less stable, also the anti roll bars appear to be disconnected to give more articulation. A standard 4x4 might not have had enough clearance but would be much less likely to roll over.
To roll a vehicle is a good lesson to learn, it may be a tough one, but it’s probably one of the best things you will learn...even it’s the hardway. In saying that I haven’t done it yet but I know my time will come 😂
Looks like he may have had a front diff-lock engaged. On a climb like this, it will cause the front end to slide sideways. It's almost happened to me. Now I only use my front locker when it's absolutely necessary. Another thing.. radius arm suspension has poor geometry and causes the front to lift on steep climbs. Or he just had some really bad luck, lol.

Good to hear his horn still worked. Was the cameraman as close to getting hit as it looked like? Really cool to see the recovery. Don't often get to see that part of it.
Final Comment I promise... at 0:29 you can see the rear radius arm is at nearly 75? or so degrees. The suspension is completely extended. Further the front is now light and it is actually pivoting on the rear tire; instead of the suspension compressing and the rear coming down. it pivots and the front comes up. It seems like the arm (and the rear diff) has trouble moving back up because the pressure (Weight) is being applied to the arm which is nearly vertical, and cant compress the rear spring very efficiently, I think this added to the whole problem. too steep of terrain with the lift it has. hard to see maybe. When he brakes in reverse he is almost already at the point of no return. Maybe some straps to limit full extension of the suspension on hills of that grade..plus all the other stuff i said before..lol sorry I cant help but look at this video and analyze it again and again...I have almost did that plenty of times, in the days before everyone had a camera. Great learning tool this video is.Thanks

@@rechtschreibungistsexy2202 Dude Not sure which country you are in but in Australia both Club 4x4 and Shannons will cover this. I have had a claim in a 4x4 park and they covered it.
That's usually my 1st thought. Lifts increase the danger to what is already unstable to begin with. In this case, with out the lift he would not have even been attempting it. (which would have been way smarter than challenging it) The 2nd best solution would have been having safety straps on it from the get go to avoid it from flipping in the 1st place. Especially after the 1st attempt showing how problematic it was going to be.
All the whoa whoa whoa, slow slow slow, turn right, move forward, go back etc etc is often very counterproductive to any forward motion. Surely all gas n go wouldn't be the answer, but a little momentum would work wonders.
Perfect example of how a recovery should b done. So glade driver was ok. It's also a perfect example of why u should use your winch it would have saved all the damage. People not using their winch is why so many track's r chewed up.
Man that hurts to watch. I could tell that you were sensing that the driver was using a little too much skinny pedal early. (You even tried to get him to save it with the "go back go back comment) I know wheeling is a lot different over there but it seems like he might have been able to crawl it if he turned right at the section he was stuck on.... getting the left rear to start climing before the right rear. I don't know... hindsight is 20/20.
Yeah it's definitely not the best of times and as you say we can dissect the video now and pin point what should or shouldn't have been done. Unfortunately the vid just doesn't show how steep this is and to get over the big step just crawling would need a lot of grip/traction. In any case a big lesson for all and if this helps even 1 viewer avoid a similar situation that is a huge positive. Thanks for the comment 👍
@@lror Totally agree. Everyone likes to armchair quarterback and you can never understand hownhard the terrain is unless you are there. Great and thought provoking video.
I noticed on my Range rover classic LWB. When going over very similar terrain my vehicle tended to bounce like that, each time it bounces it loses traction. on an steep incline like in this video. I came to the conclusion that i had a dual problem. I had a lot of bounce from the tires and the coil springs. This was made more obvious when unloaded, with only me in the drivers seat, and no passengers, and no gear in or on top.. I feel my springs are Just more than slightly too stiff when the vehicle is unloaded. It is like waiting to launch me upwards whenever the weight of the vehicle lands mostly on one wheel, and mostly in the rear. My RRC is far better on the trail with a fair load on it, it tends to keep its wheels on the ground far more effectively. The bounce is controlled somewhat by the weight it is carrying. I think it is much harder to spring/rebound the vehicle off the ground if the initial/constant load is heavier, at least for my springs. My RRC had air suspension, changed to coils, by someone else. they were old man emu's springs with only 2 inch lift. I didn't think that was the best for my uses, so I switched to the Terra Firma 2 inch lift medium duty version. The situation was the same, though the tera firmas rode better on the road. I then added a roof rack, some skid plates, and a box in the cargo area that carries my recovery equipment and tools, with every 150 lbs.of weight added it seemed to improve. With 3 or 4 people in and a might to medium load on the rack it stays planted. Hardly any carnival ride lauches into the air. Tires with a lot of sidewall at certain pressures seem to make this worse, at least for me. I am glad no one was hurt, if there had been 4 people in the rig it could have been worse I suppose. But the hill was unloading the front and the back springs were locked and loaded..Once up hill direction was lost the inevitable happened. Your videos are as always great to watch.
The one main think that you and everyone else forget to blame for the bounce is the shockers, if you go over a rail crossings at speed (100 km/h) and then at low speed (10km/h) if it bounces more at low speed then your shocks are not going to work offroad properly eg. cousing more bounce than it should have like in the video.
Always remember you drove it there you generally have to drive it home. That and most insurance companies don’t cover off-road damage that’s a waist of a good Patrol. Glad everyone was ok though!!
When you've got all the gear but no idea. Launching a 3 tonne patrol up a sharp jump up with a hole to one side...yeah that was always gonna go well. With a good line and diff locks you should never need to attack a hill like this except for if it's deep sand or mud.

Good to hear his horn still worked. Was the cameraman as close to getting hit as it looked like?
Really cool to see the recovery. Don't often get to see that part of it.
Toyota or not, I hope those people were able to walkway from that roll. And I hope the damage wasn’t that bad too. Crawl on brothers!
Thank you for watching again and yes he is alright thankfully after that roll.
Sad to see these awesome 4wdrives dropping like flies.
Hmmm, I wonder if that winch could have been used to help it up the hill in the first place. Who knows :D
Dommage et désolé pour cet accident dans cette montée infernale. Malgré tout, il est intéressant de les faire voir pour apprendre et voir des pièges. Merci pour ce partage.
Too bad and sorry for this accident in this hellish climb. Nevertheless, it is interesting to show them to learn and see traps. Thanks for sharing.
No doubt that was even scarier than it looked on camera. No thanks. Glad everyone was safe.
To much gas man the whole truck bounced slow and steady man alot of weight your throwing around on the tipping points this full send it mentality has a time and place bro i hope your rebuild is sorted by now!
And this is why I get my off road fix via remote control crawlers...when I roll my RC crawler it doesn't cost me $50,000 and possible my life.
Alex Bingham thats why no one remembers your name
@@aid1451 lol what an internet troll you are. Have a nice day ya douche bag. And btw, ask ur mom, she remembers my name.
Top held up pretty good. Tough truck.
Yes it surprised us. Patrols are simply built tough.
Thanks for sharing this. Well edited video and well recovered. Hopefully insurance will cover him. As a Jeep owner it was great seeing the JKs helping out a Patrol!
Insurance??? Are you serious? If you have an insurance which covers this kind of accident, please tell me its name.
@@rechtschreibungistsexy2202 Dude Not sure which country you are in but in Australia both Club 4x4 and Shannons will cover this. I have had a claim in a 4x4 park and they covered it.
How about if you were NOT in a 4x4 park?
@@blackmantiskungfu
Top shelf in recovery, good work by all
Seeing this breaks my heart 😭💔
Stay safe out there people ✌
I see a truggy candidate!
Hope he gets a new 4x4 soon and back out glad he is all right
Thank you for watching and yes he is alright thankfully after that roll. I'm sure we shall see him back on the tracks in no time.
@@lror that's great news
That track is now closed permanently because its to dangerous i know as its only a couple of kilometers away from me
Yes there has been a few nasty incidents. How have the closed it? We are coming back up to the area in a month or so.
Seems like standard suspension Is the way to go. The suspension there was the patrols worst enemy. Trampoline effect.
Does insurance cover stuff like this? do you have to add some kind of special off roading clause? Or do they just tell you you're screwed?
Cody Vance normal insurance only covers damage on government roads or private driveways, lots, etc. In other words paved surfaces.
Antenna looks good, maybe just a new bracket and she will still be able to put out a 10-4 big buddy
You almost got got homie that was a close one
Yes it did get very close.
Great coordination of recovery
The 1st Video was crazy 4X4 more like 0X0 in the Air😎
Nice job on that Nissan. I hope that wasn’t a daily driver cause it’s screwed now for sure!
great recovery guys
Thanks for watching.
Damn he had it on the second go...why did he let off?
Who keeps blowing the damn horn?
Duke Junior haha I was wondering the same thing but i think it’s edited in to cover up all the bad words lol
That's how Aussies cuss they go beep beep
Man that hurts to watch. I could tell that you were sensing that the driver was using a little too much skinny pedal early. (You even tried to get him to save it with the "go back go back comment)
I know wheeling is a lot different over there but it seems like he might have been able to crawl it if he turned right at the section he was stuck on.... getting the left rear to start climing before the right rear.
@@lror I have learnt the something.if it doesn't work the first time don't keep pushing it until something goes wrong
Hi I know. The filling as we all have a bad day.
The back diff is that got cables going to diff if so after one
LROR
Thanks for watching, unfortunately it does happen but the main the was he was ok afterwards. Everything else is secondary.
2:50 cowboy looking like C3PO
"Go back.!. Go back.!!"
He wishes he could.!!
Bouncy Bouncy!
Sensible recovery . That's how you do it . No pigheaded arrogance.
Thanks Paul 👍
Always remember you drove it there you generally have to drive it home. That and most insurance companies don’t cover off-road damage that’s a waist of a good Patrol. Glad everyone was ok though!!
Notice the number plate was blurred out that would be in an effort to stop the insurance agency providing it was him.
What would yall say are lessons learned from this wreck?
You just never know when things are going to go south even in a nice rig like that snd the driver being pretty careful
Glad he’s ok
When you've got all the gear but no idea.
Launching a 3 tonne patrol up a sharp jump up with a hole to one side...yeah that was always gonna go well. With a good line and diff locks you should never need to attack a hill like this except for if it's deep sand or mud.
Crawl up that hill you reckon? Nah mate
Lighten the rear load. It looked heavy from the start. Glad no injuries. Try try again. Great job
That hurt... the poor Pooroll 😂 .. nice recovery though...
