I'm not aviafilms, but to answer your question, that is the weather radar screen @3:10 in the video. The weather returns were off to their right, you see that they made a 90-degree left turn to line up with Runway 25 (That's a heading of approximately 250 degrees, or just South of West). BTW, I've got a lot of time in the B737 Classic and NG, typed in the 737 and the B757/767 and DC-9/MD80. Retired airline, early out for a medical issue, so I miss it a bit.
what systems do the old liners rely on for long haul navigation ? also same for the C-130... since they only used things like ADF / VORs / NDBs and not FMCs, I just cant imagine the pilots switching VOR after VOR for about every 80-100 nm, i tried in a simulator to fly from LAX - JFK using what navaids I can use, on a 727, got bored really quickly of switching frequency every 10 minutes...
Nice vid. actually I enjoy the sounds in the cockpit. Take off procedure, as usual rolling , keep on directional control, V1, rotate, V2 The bird is a 300 series, did you note the turbines and round dials?
@aviafilms, was this a pilot trainer? I'm looking at your clothing, and guessing it was. At my company back in the day, we did those to get our landing qualifications, this was back before we had the Level-D landing-certified simulators. Gee, those were fun days (er, nights). But, for the airline, it's much cheaper not to have to do them, saves wear and tear and extra landing cycles.
Great video ! Boeing 737-200.....CLASSIC !!
