As a person with Asperger's Syndrome, this song really spoke to me when I first heard it. I literally could not listen to this without crying for a while. Unless you have my condition, there is no way you can understand the sort of loneliness I feel sometimes. To explain would be difficulty, but being in a crowd of people doesn't always make it go away.
Basically, making friends is hard for me because of my neurological condition. I have little understanding of how to do it, basically. I've never had too much social anxiety, but sometimes I do due to my ability to not understand non-verbal social cues. That doesn't sound like a big problem, sure, but it certainly can be.
To go over what I have felt would take too long, but basically I felt lonely for a long time, and I still do sometimes. I was wondering how God could possibly use someone like me that wasn't gregarious or even able to have a proper conversation.
But to all of you people who have felt lonely...there is hope. God can be your best friend when no one else is willing to be. I can feel Him changing me, and while sometimes my old self fights back, God is winning the battle. He can win yours for you, too :)

You're welcome. I don't know what the future holds for me in terms of companionship, but I've found that growing closer to God has made me not feel so lonely despite my isolated state. Just do your best to help your son understand that we all have something to bear, but those burdens fall away in light of what God has done for us.
This is the most powerfully truthful song I have ever heard. For over a decade I have struggled to grasp the meaning of the quote "no man is an island". Today I had a revelation while listening to a lecture from Carl Jung. He was speaking on the civil war inside of each of us and the only way to end the war is through acceptance of both sides. I began to think about how this translates to how we all relate to one another and that not only is there a civil war in each of us, but there is a civil war in mankind as a whole. We all can tend to feel like an island under attack and that we are unacceptable by our bretheren. I realized that everyone is on guard against everyone else and playing offense/defense. The only way for restoration, healing, and unity to be manifested is through loving acceptance of the good, bad, and the ugly FIRST in ourselves and then in one another. After this revelation this quote popped into my mind and I broke into tears of gratitude for finally understanding the power in this quote. Then I remembered this song and came to listen and the lyrics just drove home the revelation for me. God is Love and in Him we are one. Shalom family! 🙌🙏

Favorite song ever. No man is an island. No one is alone. God is for us and loves us. I think that our problem in this world is that we can't see God. The point is that life is puzzling like it says in Ecclesiastes chapter 3:

Hi my name is Dawn - I have been listening to this song for 3 years now and praying for our oldest son to return home. God is sooo good and his timing is better then ours. We finally received a call back in February at midnight from our son asking us to come rescue him. “He said I can’t live like this anymore”. He has struggled with depression, self harm, and anxiety. Always thinking that he could run away from his struggles. Today was the day that the Holy Spirit was telling me to play this song for him. We sat and held each other crying. Thank you for all the music you write. Reminding us of “Truth”. And just how much God loves all of us. Broken, flaws, and all.
John Donne is the one who coined this saying. Beautiful song. Fellowship is very important in strengthening the relationship we have with Christ and this song does a great job of both expressing our need to connect with God and with fellow believers.

The last few months things have been very hard and I have found myself trying to isolate back on that island, and I know that is the last place I need to be. My health has gotten worse and transplant is going to happen way sooner than we had hoped, and my poor little boy is struggling so much with special needs, and you don't understand what the parents of special needs kids go through until you join the club. His speech is severely delayed, severe ADHD, and sensory disorder, but he is also the most amazingly beautiful miracle from the Lord. Even though he has to struggle so much he is always so happy, smiling and cuddling up to me, and it breaks my heart and makes me smile all at the same time. I never thought I would be doing this on my own, that my husband would be spending the next eight months in jail, and I've gotten so angry and wanted to blame God and isolate myself away from everyone. I have been blessed to have people insist on coming into my life and being there for me when I wanted to push them away, they show me God's love when I deserve it least. I am fighting so hard to get off this island because I want to be apart of the body of Christ, but it is scary because I don't want to be judged because my baby has struggles, because I'm in organ failure, or because my husband in is in jail. I can still love and show Christ's love lived out despite those things, and part of me thing that being sick and having a special needs little boy has given me the opportunity to minister even more. I still use my past to try and help people by speaking to young girls who are struggling with anorexia , self harm, addiction, and suicidal ideations because I almost lost my life to those demons and I want to make a difference and I think if I can just stay off the island that my testimony can make a difference, and if it only helps one person that is enough for me.
I am also a mother of a special needs boy, and I suffer from bipolar disorder and it's such a balancing act all the time. Us mom's for special kids have to learn how to push thru the pain and depression and put on that smile. We are the kings of sacrifice.
It can be very hard watching your child struggle to do what other kids do naturally. I think the hardest part is people lacking understanding about what is going on. My little boy was a gift from God, and I just want to help him as much as I can.
Can someone please pray for me? I need to feel God's guidance and love through the college process. I'm also going through a really hard season. Thanks.

Every time I hear this song, I think of my ex boyfriend. A man that has everything to gain, but has forgotten his identity in Christ and is hopeless at this time. All he sees is the waves and has taken his sight off of Jesus. Because of this, I had to step down and just pray for him and continue to influence him in a positive, Christlike manner. IT has been excruciating for me because I love him so much, I have handed him over to God and am trying to JUST be his friend and a continued mother figure to his boys. 2 years and didn't see this coming. Please lift him up and add him to any and every prayer chain you know of. He's beyond human help or reason and only the Holy Spirit will be able to reach him now. I know God is in control, but I need my ex to also realize I'm not giving up on him and am here. Please stand in the gap with me!!!!!!!!!

We used to sing this song in school and at camp when I was a kid. It was a wonderful anthem. There was a phrase in that version that said "Each man's joy is joy to me, each man's sorrow is my own." So I was surprised to hear this rendition which, needless to say, leaves much to be desired. Just another pop song.

I struggle with Porn even as a Christian Man. I have struggle with sin since I was a Teenager. I drifted away from God. I feel depressed and defeated in life. I walk around with this shame and Guilt. I know that only coming from the devil. Please Pray that God will deliver me from this sin and that I will find my identity With God Again. I feel nasty. I want to feel worthy of being Called a Child of God. I was raised in the right way but made bad decisions. Thank You for Praying for me. I need it for sure.
