KH is not poorly written. You just don't fully understand the lore like everyone else. Everything makes sense, even the parts that don't make any sense. Jokes aside though, yeah. We're most likely in a love and hate relationship with the series, but no matter how we feel about it, the story is a complete mess and SE is doing everything in their power to milk it as much as possible.
SkyPG beat all the games, still had to use outside sources to understand it all. KH fans take more pride in understanding the story then actually beating the game.
It's 2019. Just finished KH3.. I kinda laughed at "thinking that 2.9 could possibly be a thing". You must have died when you saw the beginning of KH3 haha. Love your vids btw !!
(e3 2017) Tetsuya: Hello! I hope you like that KH3 trailer. We can't give you a release date but to help you wait for KH3, we are making kingdom hearts 2.9^10 to tell the story of Sora's mom as she waits for Sora to come down for dinner
The thing that looks "off" about the new engine is probably that everyone looks like they're a really expensive figure only moving. They all look like they're made of shiny plastic - the clothes, the skin, the hair, the eyes... Everyone is way too "shiny" and there's this uniform quality to the textures where every different material kind of looks the same.
They still do look like 3D rendered Baby oiled up action figures, and make it so hard to suspense the disbelief when trying to immerse yourself into the scene/story. In last year's KH3 TGS trailer however, when we see Sora do the Buzz Lightyear summon surprisingly enough he had No "gloss" whatsoever, and looked completely normal so here's to hoping they're going with that for KH3. Cause you said it best when you said " Uniform quality to the textures where every different material kind of looks the same". Unreal Engine 4 is great for world design, not so much for characters.
@ 14:01. I have an answer for your plot hole, albeit in not justifying the laziness of the wring. In 0.2, when Mickey meets Aqua again, we learn that it's been 10 years since BBS, putting it around the same time as KH1. Meaning the scene with Aqua and Ansem takes place at least a year later, because that takes place AFTER KH2. Which means that in a year it's very likely that Terra and Ven could have been saved and plus Aqua doesn't even know how long it's been since that time so it would make sense that she would ask that. Also it still makes sense that Aqua would cry after hearing Sora's name because of everything she heard about him up until this point.
I have one more idea about that, did you still remember Chain of Memory effect that made Kairi and other forgot about Sora? That's it, it's the most make sense possibility.
Okay, next explain why Mickey spent 12 years never mentioning or even thinking about Terra, Aqua, or Ven, especially when he had bumped into Aqua at the end of KH1.
@@MidnightKoi Didn't Mickey say he knew Sora and Riku would try and save her,but in the end they may have both gotten stuck in the Realm of Darkness without a way out
@@SlyNeonHusker Yes, but that doesn't stop HIM from going, not does it explain when they get mentioned and he practically says, "oh, my friends! Right!"
You technically COULD say that in the meeting with Ansem the Wise, Aqua knows that time has passed and is just checking to see if Terra and Ven have come around at that point but yeah, it's stupid continuity.
"if 2.9 becomes a thing I'm boycotting Square Enix" Well then... At least it wasn't its own game... That bait and switch at the start of 3 though was positively evil.
Beat Fragment last night and I'd agree with all your points. The graphics were a little odd to me at first, but I think I'll get used to them. Mickey, Donald, and Goofy were strange, but again, I think I'll get used to it. Loved the gameplay, and I loved the level design aspects you talked about! Just makes me so eager to explore every nook and cranny of 3 when that comes out! :3 I'll not even lie, I love the KH story to bits, even the wonky stuff added in Dream Drop Distance. I know it's clunky and was never planned from the beginning, but that just makes me all the more impressed at how they can tie 15 years worth of games together into one big ridiculous story. If anyone else did it, I'd probably call bullshit, but coming from Square I'm just like, "YES, ADD MORE TIME TRAVEL. ADD MORE UNNECESSARY LORE, MORE CONNECTIONS, MORE BELTS, MORE ZIPPERS! AAAAAAAAA" It's just too ridiculous not to love for me. ^^
You say that, but my entry point to Kingdom Hearts was DDD when it was first released on the 3DS. Also, Nomura DID say they LITERALLY CUT OFF THE BEGINNING OF KH3 AND TURNED IT INTO 0.2. Not kidding. Search through the interviews on KHInsider or something, you'll find that statement.
I’ve said it once I’ll say it again: 3D DID NOT INTRODUCE TIME TRAVEL, 2 DID! Timeless river guys, come on! And yes it does follow the time travel rules set in 3D!
I completely agree! I absolutely love KH, it's been my favorite game series for many years now, but 2.8 felt kind of forced, unfortunately. The whole thing with Aqua being there at the end of KH1, I could somewhat see coming. I still don't like it, but I know where Nomura's mind is going. I honestly just wanted to get my hands on 0.2 to see how exactly there were going to work in Mickey meeting Aqua and then subsequently failing to bring her back. It really is no secret this series is retconned all to heck, and these games really do prove it. I'm just hoping it's all worth it in KH3. That being said: I've purchased so many different consoles pretty much purely because of the spread of the series. I am *very* happy to finally see all of them coming to one console, and even though I already own all of the originals and 1.5/2.5, I can already tell the KH nerd in me is going to need to own 1.5/2.5 on the PS4. I'm really looking forward to having them all on one system!
It didn't really fuck it up considering the fact that both Aqua and Ansem were in the realm of darkness for too long especially Aqua. Even Ansem mentioned it in the Blank Points that a lot of his memories were gone and the title of the scene itself is self-explanatory, *BLANK POINTS*, means she already forget about a lot of things. Even in this game, there were various of flashbacks, the memories that Aqua tried to hold on from the darkness corruption. When Aqua fell into the darkness again at the end. She's willing to accept the darkness which also affected her memories. When she heard Sora's name, she shed tears. A sign of hope and for her not give up. If she didn't know about Sora save the world before, it wouldn't really affected her emotion that much but hearing the same name again for the second time, it gives more impact to her.
Actually there is no indication that aqua looses her memories. Don't forget how ansem the wise got blown into the RoD by an explosion. More likely that that is the reason for his amnesia. The more logical reason for her asking abou Ven and Terra is the fact that there is no time in the realm of darkness, for all she knows, several centuries couldve passed. Think about it, from when she fell into darkness in BBS to the end of 0.2 10 years have passed, but Aqua said it felt like shes been in darkness forever. And in all that she hasnt aged a day.
Or watch some of the movies. Like "Mickey's twice upon a christmas" features all the main characters and is animated in a 3D/CG style. Seriously. Sitting in my living room while my little sister was watching those lame Disney Junior shows made me lose braincells. Go for the movies instead. ^^
I like the new graphics because everybody wanted the new games to look like the old CGI cutscenes, but that look, or at least I thought, made every character look...strange. The new look combines the amazing CGI graphics with the cell shaded cartoon/anime style the characters were designed with. On another note, someone PLEASE tell me I'm not the only one frustrated that we waited 15 years to find out that the Kingdom Key D is the only thing behind that door?!
Actually, the letter χ is pronounced "kai" in english (I use it a lot in physics for fields). So technically speaking, the correct english pronunciation would be "kai"-blade. If you go with the original greek pronunciation of the greek letter χ, it is like the German ch sound, a mix between the ch in the German words "Buch" (book) and "ich" (I). So, if you go by the original greek pronunciation, it would be "chi"-blade. I am a huge KH fan, but I really don't understand why they chose to pronounce it like "keyblade". Maybe they wanted this ambiguity so that it actually sounds like an ordinary keyblade, but that might only work in Japanese (it certainly does not in English, German or Greek).
i hate the pronunciation of kai, but its almost necessary to make it so for a distinction between it and the other lesser keyblades. I feel like they couldve done something else for the name, but since it CAN be pronounced Keyblade, its not a big deal.
Btw, 3 is gunna be only the ending of a saga. So be ready to cry waiting for the master of masters plot line that runs through KH 4-6 and alllll the side games on mobile :D
@Magnus Von Braun Everyone recommend the newcomers who don't have the game or just want to know the lore to watch this RUclips channel name Everglow. This person almost complete the lore through timelines. It's called KH Timelines. From almost all of the kh games include mobile version. This person is amazing as heck! :O But actually, many kh fans are tried to fix the story of what's wrong with His bad writing and rewrite them into a theory even though Nomura don't confirmed that but the theory often make sense that his absurd writings XD
14:00 So much YES! You know, BBS actually did a really good job of interconnecting and binding the events of previous KH games to it, and i always loved that scene of Aqua & Ansem the Wise talking then she learns of the boy she met 10 years ago has now saved the worlds TWICE! I ALWAYS cried when i watched Aqua cry in amazement because she knew NOTHING about what was happening in the worlds outside. But with 0.2 they tryhard to connect everything with KH1 and utterly fail and end up contradicting themselves. Now they're telling us "No, Actually Aqua DID know of the deeds of Sora & Riku when she was trapped", rendering the highly emotional impactful Cutscene of her and Ansem the Wise in the original BBS look...Stupid as fuck -_-. You know what, She met Mickey in the Realm of Darkness yes but I refuse to acknowledge the fact that she helped Mickey save Riku or that Mickey told her about Sora & Riku. Because I love the cutscene mentioned above too damned much, and this series's story is shuved so far up it's own ass it can never hope to see the light.
My favorite way to describe Kingdom Hearts is to call it Nomura's Fanfic with his OC's and Disney characters that he just writes it along the way with some contradicting points etc.
I feel like Kairi's involvement in the story has been foreshadowed in KH 2 when Riku gave her a keyblade. The fact that she could use a keyblade but at the secret ending of 3D, Riku was confused as to why Kairi was invited, baffles me actually because HE was the one that gave Kairi a floral keyblade in KH2, and it's even being touched upon in BBS when Aqua accidentally performed the keyblade ceremony to Kairi as she touched Aqua's keyblade in Radiant Garden; that's why she can wield it wothout the keyblade 'disintegrate' like when Jack Sparrow held Sora's.
KH 0.2: *gives Kairi screen time and makes her seem like she's going to be a huge important part of KH3* KH3: Kairi? who's that? sounds like something useless and completely irrelevant.
"It's like watching a dog walk on it's hind legs. You know it CAN do that, but it doesn't feel right." I'm laughing my ass off right now. Poor neglected kairi.
KH story isn't complicated, it's pretty straightforward if you play all the games and I don't seem to find any major plot holes in the series. But the fact that the games were scattered through platforms made it hard for some fans to follow it and fully understand it. There's also the fact that another great part of the "fans" think that only numbered titles matter and they end up like "uuugh explain me stuff, friggin crap plot, who are these guys? Who's the blue haired chick?".
13:42 I see what you're saying there, but its possible that she had already forgotten about Sora because of everyone forgetting about him in CoM. Time is supposed to flow differently in the realm of darkness, right? Just an idea tho
Possibly, not only that but by "Sora and riku are saving the worlds" it could be in the middle of their adventure and they just happen to cross paths at a good time
even if it shows Aqua walking towards Ansem, it should be noted as a time skip. In the old video he talks about being there before and this time was after his machine blew up. All through 0.2 you see the realm messing with her so somewhere in that time she could have forgotten her conversation with Mickey. I know it seems confusing but it can be pieced together easily.
@@LobGamer she's on the cover so hopefully she's back and not just in a cutscene as like a memory or something and they just slapped her on the cover so fans will buy it
I'd like to play as Kairi and see her get some more development and action. I always liked her. Also I want a 'Goofy Movie' world where I can eat cheese spray lmao
What's funny is that when I played kingdom hearts birth by sleep I immediately knew who was defending sora and Riku while they close the door to darkness
I don't see why it is a problem that the story wasn't immediately thought out all the way through. Nomura originally wanted to make a much simpler story for KH1, but was told by another Square dev that it wouldn't get that much recognition from FF fans if the story wasn't a little bit deep. Also, remember the whole premise of KH? Disney and FF? The most riskiest and "almost certain to fail" combination? I'm sure Nomura wanted to be safe and not think of the entire story too early just in case KH1 was a failure.
Kingdom Hearts 1 hit the sweet spot for depth in conjunction with its premise. After that, the series starting shitting the bed. It's find to have a story being made up as it goes along. What's infuriating is that Nomura tries to have his cake and eat it, too. He makes it up as he goes along, but then tries to retcon and come up with meaningless convoluted plot points whose sole purpose is to make it seem like everything is thought out and connected. It's phone, jarring, and not at all fun to try to sift through. The fact is, each self-contained game (except DDD) is fun and interesting to play through, but when the series tries to be this big interconnected epic it just gets to be too much.
@@ShadowMuppetX nah, it's literally you just personally not having an open mind. Many people love the story. Many people don't. But if something is this successful, it's safe to say that considering it "bad" is a personal opinion. Just like how fidget spinners got super popular. Many people hated them and many people loved them. Just like vaping, emojis, etc... Learn to accept your opinion doesn't matter to others and keep it to yourself. Discuss things objectively.
Got to love us Kingdom Hearts fans. We all both love and hate the writing. I am looking forward to KH3 but I am fearful of their treatment of Roxas (and by extension of Xion). Like it felt like in KH2 and 358/2 Days that Roxas was actually quite important to the overall plot of KH but then Square realised that Axel was the fan favourite and has been focusing more on him a bit too much in my opinion. I dunno, I just want my favourite trio of Nobodies to go to the beach, eat their sea salt ice cream and be happy forever while also tying up all the ideas and concepts brought up about Roxas.
Thanks so much for this series of KH videos you have done, I picked up 1 when it came out and 2(didn’t make it past Roxas)played COM, then I picked up the 1.5 and 2.5 collections on PS3 never touched more then KH1, then on Dec 30th I got The Story So Far, I played all of 1, skipped COM since I beat it in the GBA, and today I finished 0.2, was a great month of KH and I’m just glad I only have to wait 5 days to get to continue this amazing series.
In my opinion, Kingdom Hearts 3 should have these good things from the previous games (I'm just listing some of them): *KH1* - jumping platforms, world design layouts differ from world to world. World exploration (like you later learn glide so when you come back to visit you can access a new area you couldn't reach earlier). *KH2* - Camera control, Reaction Commands, Drive Forms, the Keybalde(s) having its own Ability(s), the updated Magic System, the updated improved Gummi Ship 'mini game thingy', updated abilities, updated AI for allies/opponents, Theater Mode on the main menu. *KH358/2 Days* - Critical Rate & Critical Bonus (the chances of dealing a Critical Hit & just how much damage will be dealt when dealing Critical Hits respectively). KHDays is the only game so far that has a visible stat for Critical anything. *KHBBS* - Shock Lock, that Deck Command System charging gauge thingy, the option to have multiple spells, attacks, finishing combos, etc. I think KH3 should have 3 menus for the command menu: Menu 1: ---> Menu: 2: ---> Menu 3: Attack Attack The BBS Deck Command System Magic Summon Item Party Drive Limit And in case you're wondering, the regular Magic is just for regular magic spells that you can use any number of times like in KH2. The magic spells you use in the BBS Deck Command System are the other unique spells like Crawling Fira, Mine Square, & Thundaga Shot for example. *KHReCoded* - Clock Program & Passive Abilities, or at least a hybrid of this for KH3. *KHDDD* - Flowmotion, Boss Fight Rematch option.
The way I see it, they are trying to make a gigantic firework, but I'm worried that it's going to blow up in their face at the end, and destroy everything.
I played KH1 years ago on ps2 and then never touched the series until this year and it was like... WHAT IS THIS? WHY? WHAT HAPPENED TO THE FUN MONSTER-OF-THE-WEEK SCOOBY DOO STORY?
When it comes to the KH story line, I think Lea said it best in DDD. "You had your perfect little script, but you kinda forgot to write the sequel. Now, let’s find out what happens!"" Thanks Nomura.
i feel like its well written just not well thought out, like improve. kingdom hearts is an organized mess only a select few can appreciate its magic. (still mickey only mentioned sora and riku there was no real big explanation of how impactful they were.)
Actually, time doesnt exist in the realm of darkness. For all she knows, several hundred years couldve past in the realm of light. She definately says it feels like shes been in darkness forever. And her not aging proofs that no time passes in the realm of darkness. Her hair hasnt grown at all. Nomura probly did that so he can ship Aqua with Riku.
You are absolutely 100% correct about Kairi lol I was thinking the exact same thing. Kairi's always been called the third part of the trinity, but she's NEVER been part of the story. She's always been off doing her own thing or just being the damsel to rescue, but FINALLY we see her being actually part of the story. Preach it. Off topic: this is my first time watching any of your videos, but you have an awesome voice. Has anyone ever told you you sound like Kokonoe from BlazBlue?
To put it simply, the whole video does a good job on laying out the foundation of 0.2 from gameplay to writing to etc etc. But I will say that Mickey didn’t exactly abandon Aqua, Aqua stayed behind to help Mickey lock the small version of Kingdom Hearts to help Sora and Riku. Mickey didn’t want to leave Aqua behind and yes, he didn’t tell Riku or anyone about the fact Aqua was there but Yen Sid forbade him to tell anyone the truth. Pretty sure Mickey at the time did want to tell Riku and the rest but didn’t want to disobey Yen Sid.
I only got into kingdom hearts towards the end of 2016 because of you buns. I own 1.5 and 2.5, currently playing BBS, Beaten Terra on proud with all stickers, currently trying to do the same with Ven before I do the same with Aqua. I've gotta say, I freaking love it, I LOVE YOU for getting me into it. I'm PRETTY SURE I'm following what's going on so far but then again I'm not sure. Won't lie, I have no idea how any of the ending to Terra's story impacts the beginning of the franchise.
The only defence I have for Aqua in blank point is that the realm of darkness fucks with your head. She was there from the end of kh1 to kh2 and it could of messed up her memory. But that is a stretch
We've known Kingdom Key D was a Dark Keyblade since like KH2... and we knew that Mickey was going to find a "key" as he stated in his letter in KH1, I'm almost certain he mentions it being a key of the dark realm that has been something we've known lol. Honestly all the connection made sense and based on the end of BBS we knew that Aqua was in the realm of darkness during the time of KH1 (We also already saw a glimpse of them in there together in BBS FM's Secret Episode). And if they were gonna sit there and tell me they were both in the realm of darkness at the same time and had no interaction I'd call some bs. I do think she could've been stopped from escaping with them in a better way but this all made sense. it was solid and again, based on BBS FM's secret episode we know that Tetsuya Nomura had this story planned way back then. I mean he's always thinking at the very least one game ahead. KH FM game out the same year as KH in Japan and you could already face Xemnas, the freaking main antagonist of KH2, suggesting Tetsuya Nomura probably had a good idea of what he wanted to do for Chain of Memories, 358/2 Days, and 2. Idk. I personally don't have trouble wrapping my head around KH's story. I like putting the pieces together. I see where that isn't some people's taste but today it wasn't planned out well is not really justified in my opinion.
Xenthro Unfortunately, you're very alone on those thoughts friend. Just one look at the comment section here can tell you that much. The story is definitely complicated but as someone who's played the entire series out of order, I'm lost on everyone else's confusion. Maybe its a sign the story is bad or maybe people are simply impatient and want everything explained to them now rather than later. Perhaps its a combination of both or neither at all. Who can really say at this point. All I can say though is that you wasted your tume commenting since its quite obvious most people here think the series is bad for myriad of reasons. Its not worth even attempting to say anything here
Cesar Pena I don't see how that can be an indicator of the story being bad. I think it's more just too complicated for people. most people do prefer really linear plot lines over stuff like Metal Gear and Kingdom Hearts. It is really surprising how much people don't get.
Xenthro I just feel like someone would say that KH story is so convoluted that playing the games out of order shows how much of a ness it is. But I agree with you to an extent. Major complexity within stories are often not for eveyone. Actual convolution is definitely not what KH is because if that were true then literally nothing would make sense at all from any of the games and they would probably try to pretend that it does by using something mundane like references or just simple mentions instead of what the story actually does whichbis interweaving key plotpoints from each game into one big giant ball of crazy weird goodness. I think people just call it convoluted because its simply too complex to invest time in for them. Nomura himself likes to make new things as he goes so everyone saying that its points off for story makes no sense since that's how he likes to write. His main problem as a writer is not finishing what he writes. Ironically enough though, KH is proof that he is finishing what he started for once so people acting like all these new things are just simple BS plot holes is weird to me. Its obvious the man has always had a very general idea for KH main story and kept the first game somewhat simple since the very idea of Final Fantasy and Disney together was the riskiest crossover anyone could think of. Nomura is known for making stories much bigger than what they were intended to be and sometimes they work out while other times they don't. He was taken off FF15 because of this and I think it made him realize that he needs to finish an idea before moving onto a new one, something that we see has progressed interestingly throughout KH, his baby essentially. And this is coming from a guy who started the series with Chain of Memories as his first game(gba version too). Despite not knowing the the first game, I was still invested because the writing was unique and the characters felt like they had so much to them. I never felt confused because I simply said to myself, "They'll probably explain it later" or "must be from the previous game so I'll just roll with it" and in most cases, I was right. Unlike most, I chose to focus on the current events to each game instead of puzzling myself with endless questions that I knew I had no right to ask. Overall, KH is a ride essentially. Why ask questions when you'll get what you need from it if you just sit back and let it take you where it wants to go. From what I can tell, that's how the story want to be seen and many other lengthy series do this as well so why do people not show the same amount of patience and understanding with KH? Hell if I'll ever know
I don't think people are really saying that the story is bad, that they want it to be linear, or that they don't understand the complexity of it. From what I can tell, people are tired of the *unnecessary* convoluted plot points that Nomura adds to "set up" for KH3. Personally, most of the side titles feel so unnecessary with the exception of a few that significantly added more to the universe without keeping you in the dark if you've only played the main titles. Just because you make your story convoluted, doesn't make it good, well planned, or organised. Someone has argued that if people need to reference so much in order to understand your story, then you might have a problem with how you're explaining it. It's one thing if you HAVE to play the main titles to understand what's going on but CAN play the side titles to get additional information, but a lot of people are arguing that Nomura likes having his cake and eating too by saying, "Hey, guys. You know those games that feel like fillers? It turns out that you need to play it in order to understand what the hell is going on. Give me money."
I disagree wholeheartedly but thats as a die hard fan who does everything each game has to offer I suppose....it took me 8 hours on my first playthrough, my second one on critical mode took about....3 or 4? so thats roughly 12 hours of gameplay, not bad for just a short game that was originally intended to just be a prologue for KH3. plus they said this game would only be the length of one world from kh3, dunno if thats counting the side content or not but either way...three to eight hours for just one world is amazing (especially depending on how many worlds there are in KH3 and how many times you revisit them...if you revisit at all for story purposes.) They said KH3 was too big with all the content they wanted to put into it so something had to get cut out...which is what this is, this is what they cut out from kh3 I also dont see why you think none of this was planned out o.O its never felt like they were just making shit up as they went along to me. the bit at the end where you question why she thought it was ven or terra and that it proves they did not plan this...how does it prove that? do you just not grasp the fact that time does not flow at all in the realm of dark so to her it could feel like years have passed and if years have passed...who is to say ven or terra havent been rescued? after all she told mickey about ven in this game, not in great detail but enough to where she could hope someone has saved ven, I mean hell they are currently planning to save ven atm. She had every right to think ven or terra (or both) had been rescued and were out there fucking up heartless and what not :p. Don't get me wrong I could see this franchise maybe just being bullshit plot after bullshit plot but my point is there is no solid evidence one way or the other, to me everything feels very much like it goes together and like its always been intended to be this way.
Kaito Bloodedge It is a fact that they are both real time action RPGS with a focus on combos and special moves with different attributes, elemental or otherwise. the execution on that concept is what separates the two series, but the core idea is very much the same.
Kingdom Hearts has very little focus on combos compared to the tales series. Kingdom hearts is more like a really slow hack and slash, with RPG mechanics thrown on top.
Kaito Bloodedge You mean sora spinning around like a ballerina on acid half the time is "slow hack and slash combat"? I really don't get that line of thinking.
Just subscribed to u. Kingdom Hearts is my favorite series of all time as well and I love ur personality. Been a fan since it was released as well. U have great content 😍
KH confuses me, cause like, theres like 38 games, but only 2 main games (ei 1 and 2, not counting 1.5, that card one, etc etc etc) and i have no idea whats canon or not and whats even happening anymore
Mark Johnson the "card" one (chain of memories) is definitely a main entry and has an incredible battle system, i highly recommend playing through the (oooh wee this is gonna be a mouthful) remaster of the remake of the ps2 game on ps3 in the 1.5 collection.
Mark Johnson there are 9 games and 3 makes 10. 1 sets up characters, chain of memories sets up characters, 2 finishes the nobody plotline, 358/2 is all about characters, birth by sleep sets up the last few characters and the final conflict, coded sets up one item, unchained χ and back cover continues to set up said item, and dream drop distance finishes setting up 3's conflict.
I only recently subscribed and I must say your voice is like water slide, so fun and entertaining not to mention funny. was curious if you ever thought of makeing a story summery for Nerds especially for certain games such as kingdom hearts, loved the series but after all the installments I left it, But listening to you was not only butter to my ears but easier to comprehend thank you so much, now Im going to listen to your playlist once again^^
At this ppoint they only release the game on XBone beacuse they said before they will do it, afaik they allready dropped the Xbone version for japan, theyre prolby obligated to it by contract. That is why there wil lbe no 1.5/2.5 2.8 on Xbone, because if it were up to square they would cancel 3 on Xbone immidiatly
I really hope that theres a moment where the 13 darknesses go after Kairi cause shes one of the princesses of heart and original 7 lights...and it has all the makings of a 'damsel in distress' scene...and then she just kicks SO much ass...that would make me SO happyy U^^U
the x blade wasnt shattered into 20 pieces in bbs. that was simply just a false xblade. it was shattered during the first keyblade war at the end of khx
Give me Kingdom Hearts 3 already, except I don't like Sora.. I want Aqua now in KH going forward.. At least she doesn't have the hugest honking Disney shoes and is taller. :p And she is just overall cooler looking. But alas.. Sora is the main character... ugh..
I agree with you Buns. Namora had no idea how it was all going to fit: he just kept creating plot points and then panicked when they didn’t quite work without being too obvious. But in the end, I think he’s thought about 3 and how Seeker Saga will close out and THAT is exciting!
I think one of the main difficulties of this new Unreal engine, despite how amazing it makes the game look, is that it really does force the designers to decide whether they want the more cartoonish Disney characters to LOOK cartoonish, or if they want them to blend in with the increasingly realistic world around them. In the older games, the PS2 graphics allowed for the cartoon characters to look like cartoons while also having more human characters blend in, because the limitations of the console brought everything down to a single level of definition. But now that they can go deeper, it's going to mean stepping into a sensory uncanny valley, because the cartoon Disney characters like Mickey are NOT supposed to look realistic. I can see some awkward images arising from this, and it may end up being one of the fallbacks for this engine in this particular franchise.
Part of the process of becoming a true KH fan is realizing how bad the story is written, and still absolutely loving it.
10000000% yes agree
KH is not poorly written. You just don't fully understand the lore like everyone else. Everything makes sense, even the parts that don't make any sense.
Jokes aside though, yeah. We're most likely in a love and hate relationship with the series, but no matter how we feel about it, the story is a complete mess and SE is doing everything in their power to milk it as much as possible.
SkyPG beat all the games, still had to use outside sources to understand it all. KH fans take more pride in understanding the story then actually beating the game.
That IS beating the game.
I really don't see how it's written poorly... Yes it's confusing but the only game that really had plot holes or anything was Dream Drop Distance.

(e3 2017) Tetsuya: Hello! I hope you like that KH3 trailer. We can't give you a release date but to help you wait for KH3, we are making kingdom hearts 2.9^10 to tell the story of Sora's mom as she waits for Sora to come down for dinner
Noir Lilbomber comment of the year right here XD
Now at the end of 2017 we know that we got the release window of KH3 and a promise that it will be the next KH game. Thank god
UltimateCarl they're actually pretty detailed and yeah they do sometimes look like plastic but if you want true plastic look at the E3 demo ._.
Friendly reminder that this is *demo*. In a recent Nomura interview, he said that they've been reworking character models for KH3.
I know! What is this Sonic Adventure?
Oh totally! I fully hope it improves, and even if it doesn't I will still love the series! Just musing. :D
Erikthedood Also correct me if I'm wrong. But doesn't the Realm of Darkness slowly eat away at your memory?
Okay, next explain why Mickey spent 12 years never mentioning or even thinking about Terra, Aqua, or Ven, especially when he had bumped into Aqua at the end of KH1.
@@MidnightKoi Didn't Mickey say he knew Sora and Riku would try and save her,but in the end they may have both gotten stuck in the Realm of Darkness without a way out
@@SlyNeonHusker Yes, but that doesn't stop HIM from going, not does it explain when they get mentioned and he practically says, "oh, my friends! Right!"

Mikeyoshi27 According to Nomura. Read his interviews
Mikeyoshi27 Nomura said that was going to be the prologue to KH 3. You can look it up in his interviews. I think it was revealed last year around E3
+Mikeyoshi27 Nomura stated it in an interview. According to him, it ruined the pacing of KH3 so he cut it off and made it its own thing.
the reason i heard was that KH3 was too big and they had to cut something out so they cut the prologue out to make it its own thing.
You technically COULD say that in the meeting with Ansem the Wise, Aqua knows that time has passed and is just checking to see if Terra and Ven have come around at that point but yeah, it's stupid continuity.
Glad to know that the mystery behind mickey's shirt has finally been resolved
Twindle 07 Guess Nomura wasn't kidding when he said he's going to explain everything

I'll not even lie, I love the KH story to bits, even the wonky stuff added in Dream Drop Distance.
Mines was Re:coded.
Irfan Fakhrianto Oh god, 3D was my first game...if I had started with 1, I would be a lot nicer to this series.

Ivan21234 I deluded myself into thinking the story was good at first.
I think we all have.
Hi. I'm from the future. 2.9 was indeed technically a thing lol.
I LOVE the interconnectivity. Even if it wasn’t planned before.
I'm really looking forward to having them all on one system!
idk I feel like 0.2 fits in to kh 1 perfectly but that's just me
It fits kh1s ending but fucks up the bbs ending because aqua isn't supposed to know about sora and riku saving the world until she meets ansam
***** um i guess
Actually there is no indication that aqua looses her memories. Don't forget how ansem the wise got blown into the RoD by an explosion. More likely that that is the reason for his amnesia. The more logical reason for her asking abou Ven and Terra is the fact that there is no time in the realm of darkness, for all she knows, several centuries couldve passed. Think about it, from when she fell into darkness in BBS to the end of 0.2 10 years have passed, but Aqua said it felt like shes been in darkness forever. And in all that she hasnt aged a day.
+tehsunBro Ansem blowing up in KH2 was the second time he got sent to the RoD, and he said he had already forgotten his memories.

hot dog, hot dog, hot diggity dog
I like the new graphics because everybody wanted the new games to look like the old CGI cutscenes, but that look, or at least I thought, made every character look...strange. The new look combines the amazing CGI graphics with the cell shaded cartoon/anime style the characters were designed with. On another note, someone PLEASE tell me I'm not the only one frustrated that we waited 15 years to find out that the Kingdom Key D is the only thing behind that door?!
"Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Shouldn't Exist"
K-Rez the thing is, KH 2.8 was also a beta test at the core. They've actually patched it in response to fan complaints
Or maybe 2.8 shouldn't exist but 0.2 supposed to be in Kh 3 main games as prologue (also shitty 2.9)
"Why do we play Kingdom Hearts games? Because it's holding our heart hostage."
Couldn't have said it better.
"the kai blade "
yeah, the X blade
"'χ'... A most ancient letter. Some say 'kye,' but the meaning is the same. Death... A letter that spells endings."
-Master Xehanort
- Nomura, Master of Bullshit*
Keyblade Xemnas if your Lenard Nemoy it’s the Keeeeeblade
Spacious Wheat Well you were right. We’re gonna be slaves to this franchise forever 😂
So in a nutshell, Kingdom Hearts is a beautiful mess.
Yes. A big beautiful mess.
But actually, many kh fans are tried to fix the story of what's wrong with His bad writing and rewrite them into a theory even though Nomura don't confirmed that but the theory often make sense that his absurd writings XD
Yea they fucked up when they had Micky mention sora and riku
HA. "Spoiler warning"
I spoiled myself as soon as the game came out in Japan.
Spoiler warning: it funny that it took Aqua 2 hours to travel to 10 years later
I'm such a huge fan of Kingdom Hearts, I start every single game on the hardest difficulty.
Watching this almost 2 years later and... it's still holds up.
KH 0.2: *gives Kairi screen time and makes her seem like she's going to be a huge important part of KH3*
KH3: Kairi? who's that? sounds like something useless and completely irrelevant.
Eesh, if that happens, then I'll do a reverse swan dive into a pool full of chainsaws.
WELLLLLLLL
Re: mind DLC: OH that Kairi! Here she is kicking Master Xehenort's ass
@Magnus Von Braun she's a plot device for Sora to be stronger
"the x-blade shattering in 20 pieces was never mentioned"
Me, the mobile gamer: I'm gonna have to stop you right there.
Finally, someone gets it!
I know it seems confusing but it can be pieced together easily.
i wonder if someday they will give a reference to xion, xion is best grill #neverforget
She will be back in KH3. She has to.
@@LobGamer she's on the cover so hopefully she's back and not just in a cutscene as like a memory or something and they just slapped her on the cover so fans will buy it
Mickey getting his shirt ripped off by the heartless swarm for continuity's sake will forever haunt me.

When Mickey got shirtless all of a sudden I was like: "WHY?"
I honestly prefer the graphics of Kingdom Hearts 2 cinematic cutscenes.
If Ground Zeroes was any indication of a prologue to a larger work, oh boy is KH3 gonna be divisive.

oh boy time for some more yelling. My favourite!
In my opinion, Kingdom Hearts 3 should have these good things from the previous games (I'm just listing some of them):
*KH1* - jumping platforms, world design layouts differ from world to world.
I think KH3 should have 3 menus for the command menu:
Menu 1: ---> Menu: 2: ---> Menu 3:
Attack Attack The BBS Deck Command System
Magic Summon
Item Party
Drive Limit
And in case you're wondering, the regular Magic is just for regular magic spells that you can use any number of times like in KH2.
The characters look like CGI models from early 2000s.
Bergonath they are 1.5 and 2.5 are remasters so it makes sense KH1 came out in 2002
I'm talking about the new graphics, mate.
That's not a fact, that's subjective
Bergonath like 2.8
Cause if not 1.5 and 2.5 are just upscales for the most part
The way I see it, they are trying to make a gigantic firework, but I'm worried that it's going to blow up in their face at the end, and destroy everything.
I played KH1 years ago on ps2 and then never touched the series until this year and it was like...
WHAT IS THIS?
WHY?
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE FUN MONSTER-OF-THE-WEEK SCOOBY DOO STORY?
16:00 almost 3 years later and this statement has aged like a heartless flan left out in the sun.
The engine does look weird, they don't look normal at all, the lighting on the characters' skin is weird...
When it comes to the KH story line, I think Lea said it best in DDD.
"You had your perfect little script, but you kinda forgot to write the sequel. Now, let’s find out what happens!""
Thanks Nomura.
2.9 actually became a thing lmao
Kingdom Hearts DDD for Beginners. I can nearly guarantee that: "use Balloonra" will be one of the tips.
i feel like its well written just not well thought out, like improve.
kingdom hearts is an organized mess only a select few can appreciate its magic.
(still mickey only mentioned sora and riku there was no real big explanation of how impactful they were.)
I love that youre critical about everything yet still a fan! I play Kh since the beginning to and agree with pretty much every point u say! +1
Why u so mad that aqua asked if it was terra or ven, remember a lot of time could've passed between then in the realm of darkness
1 year passed in real time, in realm of darkness time it isnt that long, thats why.
We don't even know how long it is in the realm of darkness if it's 1 year in real time.
My problem is that i've come to like Aqua more than Sora. I would really prefer to play her in the next installment instead.
I wholeheartedly agree with this statement.
15:25-15:53 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I only got into kingdom hearts towards the end of 2016 because of you buns. I own 1.5 and 2.5, currently playing BBS, Beaten Terra on proud with all stickers, currently trying to do the same with Ven before I do the same with Aqua. I've gotta say, I freaking love it, I LOVE YOU for getting me into it. I'm PRETTY SURE I'm following what's going on so far but then again I'm not sure. Won't lie, I have no idea how any of the ending to Terra's story impacts the beginning of the franchise.
0.2 didn't have Swim This Way 0/10 would not recommend
Xenthro i agree oh so whole heartedly
You made me laugh, and cry at the truth in your words about the game, you earned a new subscriber
I disagree wholeheartedly but thats as a die hard fan who does everything each game has to offer I suppose....it took me 8 hours on my first playthrough, my second one on critical mode took about....3 or 4? so thats roughly 12 hours of gameplay, not bad for just a short game that was originally intended to just be a prologue for KH3.
plus they said this game would only be the length of one world from kh3, dunno if thats counting the side content or not but either way...three to eight hours for just one world is amazing (especially depending on how many worlds there are in KH3 and how many times you revisit them...if you revisit at all for story purposes.)
They said KH3 was too big with all the content they wanted to put into it so something had to get cut out...which is what this is, this is what they cut out from kh3
I also dont see why you think none of this was planned out o.O its never felt like they were just making shit up as they went along to me. the bit at the end where you question why she thought it was ven or terra and that it proves they did not plan this...how does it prove that? do you just not grasp the fact that time does not flow at all in the realm of dark so to her it could feel like years have passed and if years have passed...who is to say ven or terra havent been rescued? after all she told mickey about ven in this game, not in great detail but enough to where she could hope someone has saved ven, I mean hell they are currently planning to save ven atm.
She had every right to think ven or terra (or both) had been rescued and were out there fucking up heartless and what not :p. Don't get me wrong I could see this franchise maybe just being bullshit plot after bullshit plot but my point is there is no solid evidence one way or the other, to me everything feels very much like it goes together and like its always been intended to be this way.
demon2thousand couldn't said it any better my friend
3:43 that's them practicing their hair cutting skills for Riku
Hey Buns! Kingdom Hearts-like battle system but infinitely better story telling sound good? it's called the "Tales of" series. Have fun!
the tales of series is nothing like kingdom hearts in terms of combat.
I really don't get that line of thinking.
you might want to play a bit less cookie cutter hack and slahes.
Mark Johnson literally every game is canon. Even the phone game
Noah Jordan wow that was strangely concise.
itchy tit I think a lot about how to explain kingdom hearts to newcomers concisely.
I only recently subscribed and I must say your voice is like water slide, so fun and entertaining not to mention funny.
was curious if you ever thought of makeing a story summery for Nerds especially for certain games such as kingdom hearts, loved the series but after all the installments I left it, But listening to you was not only butter to my ears but easier to comprehend
thank you so much, now Im going to listen to your playlist once again^^
Kingdom hearts isn't written poorly why is everyone dissing this game like is it cause it has disney in it? Its not a kids game.
Literally *No where* in this video did she say that the story was poorly written *because* of the disney crossover.
How have I never found your channel before!? This is a great vid
kingdom hearts has a plot? ur joking, right?
akiraguy It has one of the best plots out there for games. What? Too complicated for you to understand?
It's nowhere near the best, there are things holding it back from being better.
the franchise has a decent plot, not great but better then what I'd expect from a Disney x Square Enix crossover
@Max Lopex
Nothing complicated about the plot, just convoluted. Know the difference bruh.
it has a shit plot, but if u played it as a child, you'l convince yourself otherwise. Shit plot, cute characters
So you're basically saying that Kingdom Hearts is just Nomura's weirdass crossover FanFiction with Final Fantasy and Disney, also including his OCS
I don't understand why buns said Xbox people aren't getting the new kingdom hearts when Xbox people are getting kingdom hearts 3.0🙂
+Hat Simulator i meant y'all aren't getting Kh 2.8 or the bundle 1.5 & 2.5....ya know the super crucial games you need to understand KH3
SuperButterBuns yes I know and I've played the crucial games and everything I couldn't find out I looked up...AND OMG ITS YOU!!!😱
SuperButterBuns and I am REALLY Looking forward to KH3 and I'm going to binge the hell out of it!
I have a feeling they'll completely drop the Xbox One release of KH3. Especially since Xbox One owners aren't really supporting FFXV.
I really hope that theres a moment where the 13 darknesses go after Kairi cause shes one of the princesses of heart and original 7 lights...and it has all the makings of a 'damsel in distress' scene...and then she just kicks SO much ass...that would make me SO happyy U^^U
Dream Drop Distance kind of ruined Kingdom Hearts for me.
Phil Kazzy don't blame you
Phil Kazzy Why?DDD is great
Jared Martin The plot.
Oh I haven't finished it yet so I will see,it's about Xehanort time traveling I know that
I liked it, but to each their own.
the x blade wasnt shattered into 20 pieces in bbs. that was simply just a false xblade. it was shattered during the first keyblade war at the end of khx
Give me Kingdom Hearts 3 already, except I don't like Sora.. I want Aqua now in KH going forward.. At least she doesn't have the hugest honking Disney shoes and is taller. :p And she is just overall cooler looking. But alas.. Sora is the main character... ugh..
zerophyte Honking Disney shoes? it's almost like you're playing a Disney game
DC I realize that.. but Sora has even bigger feet/shoes than Riku.. just no.
zerophyte how have you made it this far in a franchise disliking the guy you play as in the majority of the titles?
zerophyte Sora is my fav kh character
Wont lie when the title kh2.9 on kh3 i can only think...THANKS BUNZ!
I agree with you Buns. Namora had no idea how it was all going to fit: he just kept creating plot points and then panicked when they didn’t quite work without being too obvious. But in the end, I think he’s thought about 3 and how Seeker Saga will close out and THAT is exciting!
I just found your videos and I am in love. All of your thoughts is exactly how I feel including everything you said about the hellscape that is KH 3D
I think they play with the whole "she lost her memory being trapped there" as 0.2 takes place in KH1, Ansem is trapped there after KH2
You forgot the most important part! How good Aqua's bike shorts look with all the extra polygons!
