I'd almost totally forgotten how wonderful this song. Julian: such a genius: the greatness and perfection of love = the greatest imperfection is love? Discuss...
He was *hugely* out of favour (also mad) at the time. My 1st ever gig was the chest gouging affair one at the Hammersmith Palais and there were people fainting all around me. I thought all concerts would he a comparable mindfuck.
I picked this 7" on Ebay for £3 & that was including P&P. Perfect pop. I find a lot of younger people always come up to me when I'm playing it, asking who it is. They think it's a brand new track & are blown away it's 20yrs old.
@bugpowderdust27 keep playing the good songs dont deprive the younger generation of artists like julian cope, its a crime not to let them hear his music,. THE GREAT DOMINIONS.
@wildenfree I see what yu mean...I mean, everyone liked the Peggy Suicide album, but I don't like it much....his first 2 solo albums, the song 'World Shut Your Mouth', and of course The Teardrop Explodes, that was all good, but the late 80s albums, hmm, not my cup of tea
1984 with all that do goody good catholic Band Aid garbage was when individuality in music began turning into complacent conformity and corporate shysters took full advantage of the general mood of idiocy taking hold in that 80s generation and of course things have degenerated since. Maybe that's why shite like U2 and Madonna, conscientious catholic rock and fake eroticism became the staple as it still is and why people like Cope were pushed into the margins.
Interesting ideas here. Being a "fallen catholic" from Belgium myself, I was never really aware of a "catholic" angle to Bandaid - then again, I was only 13 at the time, and only just starting to lose the faith. Still, with Geldof (of partly Belgian ancestry!) declaring himself "a quarter Catholic, a quarter Protestant, a quarter Jewish and a quarter nothing - the nothing won", the truth is probably a bit more complicated than your representation of it.
The Greatness and Perfection of Julian Cope in just over 3 minutes.
Saint Julian!! One of my favorite tunes of his. A great album. Such a fun-loving guy, he seems, very witty. FRIED!
this whole album helped me get through high school.

Balls of steel.
Of course the title doesn't have to be the same as the lyric. Which, in this case, is the case (?).

Sorry, meant to type "Stumbled"....
LSD is a wonderful drug.
comments for what is perfect is what is love.
Balfe's insistence on taking over songwriting split the TX. Listen to 'Piano' as proof.
