Yep, mine is like this. She’d even search the newspaper and shop catalogues to see how much I’d spent on her Christmas present. I’d be scolded for not spending enough on her. And then she’d list off bigger and better things for her to be given next birthday.
I no longer see her, but the damage was done to my family and some of my children remember her.

@@redemptionhappens7725 Restlessness is a sign of lack of contentment , grass is always greener on the other side . Problem is you always take yourself along . Due to my ( lack of ) upbringing I never had peace in my head until my life with my empath husband gave me healing . This must be the reducing of emotional thinking that HG talks about . I love my boring life of contentment now away from all the drama . I cannot stay away from my mother though , she's the only narc I allow in my life .

If nothing else, just because I don’t like being around people therefore I get very little to no fuel and am content with that helps me to know I’m not a full fledge narc. A very good recording. Thank you.
I love happiness and joy. It is an energetic volcano. I like contentment, sadness and solitude. The others are actually burdensome. I usually get rid of them pretty quickly - unless I think, that they can teach me something valuable - then I beat myself up a bit and I add to my real guilt :)
I hate deep despair - it's that emotion that only death can cause - real or emotional.
If that triumph mixed with the energy and feeling of mastery, that I sometimes feel in every cell of my body, is power or something comparable, it is indeed a powerful feeling. Excellent. But - each emotion has its own unique "taste". I like them all. I wouldn't be able to part with happiness or loneliness - these are such beautiful, incredibly vast and overwhelming feeling.
I hate despair and nothingness the most. They often go one after the other.

@elizaf I recall that extremely helpful, albeit confronting for many, video and it assisted greatly in reinforcing that I was wasting my time even talking to highly narcissistic, or worse, people!
Of course, it's often more difficult with long-term "relationships" and family members though. I've found that it helps to gradually cut down on contact, if it's not possible to leave, or to stop altogether. 😊

Now this, for me, is absolutely fascinating. Particularly as regards happiness/joy. On self-reflection, things that make me happy are usually as a result of an interaction with someone or something. I'm not automatically happy, I don't wake up happy for no reason. Things that make me happy, or give me joy, include music, reading, something I've made (cooking/crafts) or achieved, something going to plan, someone agreeing with me or reacting in the way I'd hoped, for example. Even if it's a negative reaction from someone who, in my mind, deserved whatever it is I retaliated with. So, I wonder, is that not the same as feeling fuelled? That satisfied feeling of things having gone your way, even if it's short lived?
