While Curry's S.I.R. was sinister, I think Hartman's T.O.M. makes the ride scarier. Hartman's is relaxed, upbeat and chipper and you can't help but relax a little bit. That was until you saw poor Skippy...
No, the first version doesn't set the tone for being scary but comecial which is a stark contrast to the main attraction which is scary, that's why it was changed.
S.I.R.'s voice is hot, but the "WHAT HAVE I DONE?!" part makes me laugh SO HARD and is probably the sole reason TOM is my second favorite Disney robot.
@HoldenSouthardsTv The Alien is named Skippy but on Stitch he just stays there and the "fried" Skippy audio animatronics figure is re-used and edited to be the "donut guy" they teleport in. Last time I went on Stitch I asked a cast member if Skippy likes peanut butter(because Skippy is also the name of a peanut butter brand) and the answer was yes! He's so cute.
Weirdly, one of my favorite parts of this particular preshow is Tom's humming at the beginning, makes me wonder what a full XS theme tune might sound like
It gets worse in the final version as not only does Skippy get charred after the teleportation but SIR puts through the teleportation again but suspends it capturing the poor little Skippy in teleportation space forever (or it seems so).

The problem was actually pretty simple. The classic scary/funny Disney attractions (Pirates, Mansion) start scary and end up funny. Alien Encounter went backwards.
Disney bought the rights to "Alien" for Great Moments at the Movies, which was to be the Disney MGM Studios' signature attraction, so Imagineering had the clearances to use the xenomorph in Alien Encounter. Now, with the acquisition of 21st Century Fox, Walt Disney owns "Alien" outright.
too scary for the kids. I remember i road that ride twice and there was always aboout three or more kids crying to get out. One time i went on it and about eight kids were crying and i think one pissed his pants
