Video doesn't do this justice for those who never got to experience it lol. The seats and room basically had blasts of air to feel like flapping wings as it flew, water squirts like spit or sweat drops or whatever from the alien, something under the seat that would flick out at your ankles feeling similar to something like a snakes tongue, pulsating hot air on your neck that felt like breathing. It was crazy how good this attraction was and probably one of my most favorite ever.
I remember that ride as a kid. It was awesome. However, I remember the water coming down exactly when the maintenance work gets eaten so I’m guessing it wasn’t spit or sweat they were going for.
It was my favorite too when I was a little kid and it made me cry from being scared. My folks were like.. WTF.. never expected something like this at Disney.
I mean, imagineers. Mostly, they're tasked with creating happy things, but they're still the most creative engineers on the planet. When tasked with creating terror, we shouldn't be surprised that they bring the same enthusiasm and skill.
I went on this ride as a young little girl and walked out crying my eyes out from how scary this was. I was mortified! I remember being super still and trying not to make a sound inside while the alien was running around loose. I remember it breathing hot air behind my neck and spitting at me with the water machines in the front 😮 but in the darkness you think its real and right in front of you 😂
I remember going on this when I was like 4 or 5 years old. Screaming so hard that a cast member came and let me out of the seat in the middle of the ride and picked me up and took me outside. He helped me through my first ever panic attack and then when I calmed down I realized my dad was still inside and I had another one. He told me my dad was a hero to save the people and that he single handedly was rescuing everyone. I was so thrilled to know that my dad would be ok. I also remember there being a garbage can that moved around by itself and it talked to us. Does anyone else remember the talking trash cans because that was soooo cool and I don't know if I made it up or not haha
@@ddb592That's such a sweet story. Theme park workers in the 90's were just built different. He picked me up and talked to me just like he was Hercules. I was so lucky I got to meet my hero at 6 years old.
Hando and that Na'avi person on the river journey are the closest and they were made in recent years. It blows my mind they've had the ability to make a completely life-like animatronic and didn't utilize the technology more, maybe it's expensive?

I loved this attraction! It was a 4D experience. I remembered the chairs had stereo speakers. During the course of the dialogue, the room would thumped with alien footsteps or the chair would shake when the flying alien landed on your chair. The chair would rattle when the alien tried to break into your chair. There was hot air blown on your neck for alien breath, little tassels or air jets blown on your head to simulate alien tongue flicking or tentacles touching your hair. These sensations were delivered to you while you were sitting in darkness. Then your imagination amplified everything that was happening. Not everyone would experience these sensations at the same time because part of feeling the fear came from hearing other people experiencing the sensations before you do. It was a very well psychologically designed and timed ride. Even the adults came out scared.

Wow the animatronics back then were pretty good, the robots movements were so smooth and the bug alien breaking the glass was astonishing Got to give it to Disney for doing such a great job on making things so realistic
People clearly loved that attraction. A few complained that it was too intense and Disney caved. There were plenty of warning signs. Too bad it’s gone.
John Sisti I guarantee it was more than a few also the biggest mistake was putting in the middle of the straight up Disney magic kingdom this would have been perfect for Hollywood studios instead of Tomorrowland
Also, the guy who plays “Clench” (the guy who decides he wants to come here) was arrested for child porn and something like luring a young boy. So, if you’re Disney, and the main actor from your ride is a registered sex offender, you’re probably going to stop showing anything with him in it. They could’ve just kinda reshot the explanation scenes, but c’est la vie… 🤷🏽♂️
Since Stitch is gone (thank god) and since Disney owns Alien, they could retool the attraction into it was originally supposed to be: an attraction about Xenomorph
I was 7 and begged my Dad to take me on this ride because I loved outer space. This ride absolutely terrified me, and I cried. We didn’t know it was going to be scary, and the whole unexpectedness of the rouge alien intercepting the transport and all the screaming had me thinking it was real and actually gonna eat us.
There were warning signs warning riders how scary this could potentially be as well as a 13 and up ride restriction. Those were clear signs there on how scary this could be...
I really enjoyed this experience, it was so much better than stitch, but a little to intense for children. I think they should have kept it and added an age restriction. There are a lot of adults and teens they would still enjoy a scare thrill. Thanks for sharing
If I remember, this attraction was littered with warnings. I imagine most families just ignored them since most attractions for the time was family oriented.
@@purplepumpkinart1228 I agree! Disney is loosing a lot of teen costumers because the rides aren’t as scary as universal studios or islands of adventure!

Watching this again as an adult: never noticed all the jabs at corporatism in the ride intro. Kind of ironic now coming from Disney....whose really being XS-ive now, haha.
I read this comment before watching the video, I was confused why you spelled it like "xs-ive". and now I'm sitting here laughing my ass off lol, brilliant.
I went on this ride back in 2002 and it scared me so badly I had nightmares. I even remember hearing the rumors that ride was sadly going to close one year later. I'm happy I got to experience it while it was still open. Please bring alien encounter back Disney.

This was my favorite ride back in the day... I had to basically drag my parents to it every time. 🤣 I was between 10 and 12 when I first experienced it and I enjoyed every incredibly scary moment. I was so sad the day they replaced it with that lame copy ‘Stitch Great Escape’. Looking forward to the day it gets replaced.
Hit this one up in 98, 10 years old and scared the hell out of me! I remember screaming in tears "I don't want to die" and at one point the water that sprayed you was supposed to be blood from the alien eating people around you. I Went back in 2001 and did it again, totally prepared this time. I will never forget you ExtraTERRORestrial.
Don't you know it's no longer a parents job to parent their children. It the rest of the world's. The ride had warning signs posted at the entrance and throughout the queue line saying that it had lighting effects that could be dangerous to people with epilepsy and that it had thematic sequences of horror. Parents chose to ignore those warnings and then blame Disney when their children came off crying.
I went on this ride when i was in first grade (7 years old) by the time we got to the sign warning us "hey don't take in younger kids" we were already waiting in the line for over an hour so my dad put his foot down and said "we waited this long, we are not leaving this line". I spent that night curled up in a ball under every blanket possible because I was so terrified of that ride lmao.
@@caitosaurusrex7363 There were signs literally THROUGHOUT the queue line and one right at the front entrance along with the warning signs for health risks. I worked at Disney for a year and had one shift in Tomorrowland. Since this ride is now defunct, the stage/seating served as a break room for my area... needless to say I had flashbacks to this thing. I did this attraction when I was five years old and was traumatized by it - especially when you'd feel the hot breath on the back of your neck. Walking into the break room, seeing this place lit up in only orange lighting with the seats and alien chamber still intact, sent chills up my spine. Man... I wish this attraction was still a thing!
@@Leandro-xk3co They tried replacing it with a Stitch themed attraction but it got horrible reviews (lots of people thought it was too babyish and cringe-y). As to why they still haven't done anything with it yet, I'm not sure. Probably too focused on new rides instead of tampering with the relics.
I was so caught off guard with this ride lol I was 9 years old and my dad didn’t bother even mentioning what the ride was about next thing I know I was in the middle of the dark with an alien breathing down my neck 😓😭 I honestly would LOVE to experience this now at 29! Bummer 😫
I remember this attraction as a Kid. I was totally unprepared for this scare! Everything seemed super realistic and I was literally crying for my mom!!! This was awesome experience and a memory I’ll never forget.
Great ride? Are you crazy? It’s extremely disturbing! Fake or not, burning alien animals in front of kids thinking this is real is just disturbing! People screaming that this thing was on the lose trying to kill people? It’s just sick and cruel! This was teaching kids to be cruel as well as scaring them.. not a good Disney ride!
@@Dolcevita_bakes this ride wasn't meant for kids, and there were warnings about how scary it was. Also...The Haunted Mansion's stretching room makes kids cry all the time. It's loud, dark, and has a corpse hanging from a noose, and an ax wielding bride who beheaded her husbands. Pirates has characters who drink, steal, murder, and burn down the city. You go to hell in Mr. Toad. Pinocchio has kids who turn into donkeys for drinking and smoking. Tower of Terror has five guests die in an elevator. You call any of that kid friendly? Disney has always had dark and cruel subject matter and has never been just for kids, and Alien Encounter wasn't teaching kids to be cruel. It was an experience set in a fictional universe. Is Constance teaching kids that it's okay to behead husbands? Are pirates teaching kids that it's okay to pillage and plunder?
I honestly don’t think this ride closed because it was “too scary” I think it closed because of Geoffrey Jones. Incase you didn’t know, in 2001/2002, Geoffrey Jones was arrested for taking nude photos of an underaged boy. Pedophilia and Sexual harassment are big no nos for Disney. So rather than reshooting the scenes with other actor, they changed the overall ride.
This attraction was utterly terrifying in person. When I experienced this in 99-00 I didn’t know Disney could do a horror experience like this. It was astonishing.
@@elvingarcia3010 I hate that Wreck-It Ralph is replacing S.I.R.'s attraction. I know Stitch ruined it years ago and turned S.I.R. into a pansy policeman, but now the chances of him returning are zero? I hate you, Disney. Always shoving IPs everywhere. Bring back OPs! Bring back S.I.R.!

Heck, I’d they really want IP, they own alien now so they can actually implement that as apart of the story as originally planned.

Thanks for improving my bad day with this great trip back in time! This ride scared me both times I went on it, but I loved its story and characters. This attraction really shows how much you can scare people with sound and touch effects alone.
So you were touched when the lights were out? Is that why everybody was screaming, it was like; the "alien" broke out of the cylinder and was touching people?
Alpha Omega's Watchwoman The special effects created that illusion during the darkness. The chairs vibrated, the binaural audio made chewing sounds, the shoulder restraints moved up and down, some kind of string fluttered on the back of the head, etc.
@@tmalone2530 Yes! They shot air from the seats onto your neck. One part of the auditorium would scream and you wouldn't know why and then it would 'breathe' on you as if it was making it's way around the room. It was so dark in there and made all the more frightening by the seat restraints

Did you go August 27, 1997? It'd be so hilarious if Birdman and S.I.R. were part of the same day. (Because S.I.R. is Disney's darker answer to Space Ghost. Heck, my parents even believe that!)
Oh my God. I finally found the ride that I’ve always had an early memory from. I was 8 years old visiting from California and this ride FREAKED ME OUT and left me scarred for years. That day I actually believed that the alien was really behind me only when it broke out because you could hear its growling by your ear due to the speaker on every seat. I realized a few years later lol. This was so good!!
I was laughing the whole time. It was absolutely amazing... warm water rains down on you the moment a crewmate is eaten. Psychological horror but absolutely hilarious and well executed. Still a bit too scary for the little ones and claustrophobic people. I miss it. One of the best dark rides of all time.
this ride had such a deep cult following and attracted a new crowd into the magic kingdom in the 90s/very early 00s....Those screams were legit and real lmao...What great a feeling it was to ride this and space mountain after
This really shook me up as a kid. The brilliance of it is how they force you to use your imagination to terrorize you in pitch black dark. The things that stood out to me were seeing the thing flailing around in the tube, and feeling bursts of air and water/saliva in your face in the dark.
So that was the main thing, then? Just the ambience terrifying you, with your mind painting the picture in the dark, as you felt the alien’s “breath” and “saliva” fell on you?
This was definitely one of the SCARIEST rides at disney. My sister talked me into going on this and halfway through it I was having a panic attack and starter punching "my sister". But at the end when the lights came back on it was some stranger/guy. He was rubbing his arm and said "I feel sorry for whoever you meant to be hitting". I was mortified and still trying to get over my panic attack. Trying to mumble an apology and get the heck out of dodge. 😱
With Disney now owning Fox, they should bring back Alien Encounter but make it an Alien movie theme with a Xenomorph or a Xenomorph Queen in it. And make this ride only for teens/older teens and adults.
Even before they owned Fox, the originally plan was to have the Alien be a Xenomorph & Fox was willing to let them use the rights (for $ of course) but Disney thought that a character from an R-rated movie wasn’t appropriate for the park.
I actually really liked him when I went on this ride at 5 years old - I called him "the robot." Heavens did I know that I'd develop a crush on another robot a year later.

I’m 37, was there at around 7/8 yrs old around this time and I can say that this was terrifying as a kid. The alien broke out, killed scientists, “blood” was sprayed on your face (water), hot air blew on your neck as if the alien was right behind you and you were next! Something hitting your feet all the while the lights are flickering and you can see the alien running around the room. Was awesome but also super scary as a kid. Nostalgic!

I rode this with my family when I was 15. I was torn between laughter, fear and pain (my mum was gripping my hand so tight my fingers turned blue). But I loved it. I wanted to ride it again. I miss this ride.
I was traumatized by this ride when I was a kid, haha. My mom had taken me to Disney the Christmas after my grandmother passed away in '94. I was 7 at the time. I remember feeling so helpless, being restrained in those seat harnesses and it feeling so real that the alien was actually loose in the room behind me. My mom has laughed about it hysterically throughout the years whenever we talk about this ride when it comes up in conversation at any family function. It definitely left a long-lasting impression on me that I won't forget for the rest of my life! So glad I found this video and could relive this as an adult. Just wish I could repay the favor to my children the same way! A kid's imagination is a powerful thing! XD

I know people don't like Eisner very much anymore but let's be real-- Disney's creativity flourished and hit its peak when he was in charge. I miss the Eisner era when rides were based on original creations rather than IP.

@@TECfan1 it wasn't because of rights but because the others including George Lucas said that a Xenomorph is too scary for Disney so they did this instead
Experienced this as a 7 year old and it changed my life. Absolutely terrifying in the moment but my favorite experience that entire trip. It seemed so light hearted in the queue until you get into the room and they have giant restraints that drop down on you to hold you place. Then you start remembering all the warning signs at the beginning. At that moment you're wondering what kind of ride did I just sign up for and the anxiety sets it before anything even happens. The effects were amazing. I laughed, screamed, laughed, screamed, and then laughed again. I probably cried at some point. I was so sad when it was changed to Stitches Great Escape and then even more so when it forever closed.
Went with a big group of friends during our first year of college to Disney. None of us knew anything about how this ride was. Before that I had never legit screamed on an amusement park ride. I did on this, and haven’t ever since.
I was too little and wouldn't go on it but my dad couldn't stop talking about it! He was blown away because he thought from the restraints it was some kind of coaster and was not expecting it! He loved it and the whole time I'm watching other kids and preteens exiting the building crying 😂
My brother curled up in a ball on his seat, he was like six at the time and went full catatonic. He was basically in shock for the rest of that day at Disney World. I thought that the ride was fantastic.
This was SO f-ing scary as Hell...you can feel the Alien's breath on your neck, pressure on your shoulders, and growling in your ear! This is terrifying to experience it. Video can't really give you that real fear feeling that you can 'in person'
I remember the experience like it was yesterday back in 1996 when this first appeared. By far one of the best attractions in the park when it came to Total fear and panic. They did an incredible job and it's a shame they got rid of it.
Yeah that's true. I never got to go on this, but I imagine it's better than Stitch's Not-so-great escape... I'd rather be scared on this than have to deal with that chilli dog smell again...

This attraction closed just a year before I was born, so I never got the chance to experience it, but this does actually look like a really cool ride!! Not sure if I would actually go on it, seeing as I get scared pretty easily and get panic attacks sometimes, but watching this video of the attraction makes it look really fun. :D
I wish I could've experienced this... I think I was about 3 when it closed down, so I would've been entirely too young to enjoy it, let alone remember it, but seeing it now it looks so cool.
As I've grown older I can appreciate this ride. When I was 12 and my loveably naive father took me and my other younger siblings on this as his friend said it was "awesome", it was not a very good time. I remember looking at the warning signs thinking this was going to be a terrifying experience and I was right. Even despite hating scary stuff at the time, part of me takes a bit of solace knowing I got to ride a ride that no longer exists.
This attraction is the reason why I am so scared of the dark to this day! Went on this in '95 when I was 6 years old, parents laughed the entire time instead of saving me from all the screams and actually thinking I was about to be eaten alive. Now at 31, I still can't go anywhere extremely dark without thinking something is going to happen to me!
Damn that's pretty sad. One reason to never bring kids to scary attractions. Though being scared of the dark is a normal fear for humans because our predators usually hunt us during dark times.
I must have been like 10 when I went on this attraction. Was this the one where you felt the alien on your shoulders and heard him like right in front of you? Also I think water was blown in your face. You felt like the alien was really there about to touch you. But you couldn’t see it.
I was 7 when I first went to this rid, there is also a water/ blood spatter from above when one of the technicians was eaten by the alien. That and everything else terrified me, had nightmares and cried after getting off the rid.
Hands down the coolest Disney attraction ever. I was fortunate enough to go several times back in 1995 when I was 8, and this attraction was as awesome as it was terrifying. To this day I can still hear the alien's growling and roaring in my mind and still feel it's breath. I was gutted when I found out the attraction closed and with the way Disney is today there's no way they'd ever bring it back, which is a real shame. Disney had serious balls back then when they did this attraction.

It's a nightmare ride that everyone try to escape
People clearly loved that attraction. A few complained that it was too intense and Disney caved. There were plenty of warning signs. Too bad it’s gone.
John Sisti I guarantee it was more than a few also the biggest mistake was putting in the middle of the straight up Disney magic kingdom this would have been perfect for Hollywood studios instead of Tomorrowland
And most of those complaints were from lazy parents who ignore warnings!
I still don’t think Xenomorph is ever gonna come to the parks anymore. Alien is rated R and that’s not against Disney Park property

I was 7 and begged my Dad to take me on this ride because I loved outer space. This ride absolutely terrified me, and I cried. @@Hervinbalfour you're not reading warning signs as a 7 year old kid lol get real..
I really enjoyed this experience, it was so much better than stitch, but a little to intense for children. I think they should have kept it and added an age restriction. There are a lot of adults and teens they would still enjoy a scare thrill. Thanks for sharing
Should’ve been ages 13 and up
I was 12 when I rode this...and the most terrifying experience of my life
Then, they should’ve relocated this to MGM Studios
I am currently in Disney and I love stitch but I am also a massive alien fan and wish this was still here
If I remember, this attraction was littered with warnings. I imagine most families just ignored them since most attractions for the time was family oriented.
This needs to come back no matter how terrifying.

If parents complained about kids being scared the demonstration section was your warning. This is a SCARY ride

Haunted Mansion is meant to be mysterious, like a thriller, then turns into typical Disney fare. In China, they banned it because it was seen as making fun of the dead.@@starmancrusader
does anyone know where i can some behind the scenes images of the alien? i really want to get a good look at it
This ride was by far the most terrifying experience of my childhood. This video doesn't do it justice. Lol.
This was one of the most sensory attractions Disney ever had. It was so much fun!
I wish I was old enough around that time to see it, it looks like fun
THIS!!!!!! I want some vintage full ride throughs from 1990s on. There has to be enough footage around to piece them together.
New Tomorrowland The Extra-TERRORestrial Alien Encounter Ride Original Soft Opening Magic Kingdom December 16th 1994.
They need to remake this with an Xenomorph
It was originally supposed to be one but they couldn't get the rights or something.
@@TECfan1 Lucky for them they own the rights now, so maybe they could bring it back.
Demonte Smith who knows
I thought too when my wife and her daughter went...it really scared some kids .....one girl was screamming so loud i got a headache
I remember the kid sitting next to me trying to get out of his chair ...and his mom freaking out....yelling let us out let us out....it was great!
did they let them out? lmao
Gone but never forgotten...
“The alien cannot fly out!” *FLIES OUT* “is out! The alien flew out!” 🤦🏻♂️ typical movie scene ! 😂
This ride honestly would be amazing to experience.
I went on this in 97 I was 8 years old and it scared the life out of me ... Literally
They need to bring this back.. you had to be there to feel how scary it was !
Went with a big group of friends during our first year of college to Disney. None of us knew anything about how this ride was. Before that I had never legit screamed on an amusement park ride. I did on this, and haven’t ever since.
Finally new footage that is freshly new love it!!

I was too little and wouldn't go on it but my dad couldn't stop talking about it! He was blown away because he thought from the restraints it was some kind of coaster and was not expecting it! He loved it and the whole time I'm watching other kids and preteens exiting the building crying 😂
Loved, LOVED this immersive experience, one of the best Disney has ever done. I wish they would bring it back somehow.
This would absolutely DESTROY a child in 2020
Yeah that's true. I never got to go on this, but I imagine it's better than Stitch's Not-so-great escape... I'd rather be scared on this than have to deal with that chilli dog smell again...
Of TRUST ME
*-/it just got another/-*
yup can confirm, this was
definitely one of my worst memories that I have from my childhood, i was 6 or 7 years old and couldnt stop screaming/crying lol
A lot of 90s kids were traumatized by it too.
Yep... today’s kids would protest or something
To this day I still can’t believe this had a guy get killed and then you feel his blood drip on you. Next-level.
This was such a great ride! They should bring stuff like this back. No need for crazy over the top budgets. Just good planning, ingenuity, and a good story line/hook.
This ride was absolutely terrifying as a 4 year old lol I dont know what my parents were thinking taking me on this, i bet i would have loved it as an adult though
How different is the experience in person compare to this video?
@@RepublicTrooper125 its pretty scary in person, the 4D elements were pretty good for the time of the ride. Like it really felt like there was a hot breath on the back your neck from what I remember.

Wreck It Ralph Attraction: Opening 2022
This attraction closed just a year before I was born, so I never got the chance to experience it, but this does actually look like a really cool ride!! Not sure if I would actually go on it, seeing as I get scared pretty easily and get panic attacks sometimes, but watching this video of the attraction makes it look really fun. :D
An attraction that you would officially believe that you are.... screwed :'D
14:11 person:"uh folks there's nothing to be afraid of. " the kid in the background: "oh yes there is"
I must have been like 10 when I went on this attraction. Was this the one where you felt the alien on your shoulders and heard him like right in front of you? Also I think water was blown in your face. You felt like the alien was really there about to touch you. But you couldn’t see it.
Andres Morales oh my 😳😳
Yes that was part of this experience
I was 7 when I first went to this rid, there is also a water/ blood spatter from above when one of the technicians was eaten by the alien. That and everything else terrified me, had nightmares and cried after getting off the rid.
@@sexykitty4life We're in the same boat. I was 8 and cried during it and after.
This absolutely terrified me! I was the chosen one which scared me so bad I had my eyes closed the whole time. Found this and FINALLY got to see what the alien looked like! Brilliant concept. Need to bring it back....
