Awesome job on the phone. Both the phone cords look so good. And we who have used a phone with a cord know that gravity is not the only thing that messed up the cords. Having the phone on one wall and walking across the room to the other wall like it was a cordless phone.
You can always buy plain white polymer clay and color it with a dab of acrylic painting and mix as you soften it. Also baby oil works great with dry polymer clay while conditioning. I really love your work. It is so inspiring!!!!! 😘😘😘
growing up in the UK our phones only had a really short cord like this one. so you couldn't move away from the phone at all. We watched American sit coms with envy as we saw the really long cord between the phone and the handset so you could go get a drink or something if the phone was in the kitchen (thinking 1980's Roseanne) Thanks for the happy memories.
Man! Such detail! You are pulling out all the stops on this one. I can’t get over the minuscule bits you are considering! The old phone is so fun to see, and remember from my youth. A rotary dial would have also been fun to see... maybe another project for that one. Why was I disappointed to discover the cord wasn’t boing -y! Smart to glue the handset to the wall for people like me who would want to explore that!
You're not only talented. You're fun! I showed your work to my son. He thinks it's amazing! He used to play that videogame "The Last of Us" (and I would watch him play - loved it!). Some day, I'll create an abandoned place myfself.
Love the comments from the local historian! Ha!!!!! 😂Great job on the phone. Maybe you could faintly write a few random phone numbers or messages on the wall next to the phone. People did that, ya know. But not me. Nope. Never. Well... except that one time.
That's a great idea!!! Esp those important phone numbers.... Here's the question though... should they be 7 digits or 10??? ;) I was also thinking of maybe stuffing some papers behind the phone too like bills etc. So glad you liked the historian... she's a bit corny at times :o
Bentley House Minis LOL! All historians are a little corney, trust me! (I am one. 😉) As for how many digits, I'd say 7. Push button phones really took hold by 1970 so your cafe can't go back any earlier than that. And depending on when it got abandoned (80s? 90s? how long would it take to deteriorate like it has with tree roots, etc?) most people were still living and working within the same area code. Sorry...geek level overload. 😲
Unless you want to put your Cafe in the Twilight Zone and then who cares??!! All bets are off! It's the cafe that had the 3-eyed alien as the counter guy. It got abandoned because the aliens took over and ate all the residents. (I told you. We're all corney!) 😉
LOL yes it will probably get a little "messy" in the reality area because I am making everything up in my head haha. I am thinking possibly 90's but we are probably looking at it from the future.... hmmm. Maybe I need to write out a little narrative to keep me on track! However the alien idea is always a good back up!! ;)
Wow, again, u keep blowing me away. I purchased a mini dollhouse. Thank u for teaching about scales cause the dollhouse I purchased was 1:32 or whatever. Anyway, it was extremely tiny and tedious putting the stuff together. It looks like a glued mess...lol, but I learnt. And I thank you. Look e the way u make your furniture.
Cheri Whitley thank you lol! I definitely will do some more polymer clay. Now that I am learning a little more about how to work with it I am enjoying it!
The phone brings back memories... I'm not certain what era you have used for your shop, I may have missed a few of your vids, so I'm going to assume that it's from the '70's or 80's? I still remember the same type of phone with the circular 'dialing' mechanism. You did a Fantastic job! The Historian was fabulous, as your guest. Lol. Loved it. Thank you. Blessings.
Thank you so much for the kind words!!! As for the era my thoughts are that it is an early 90's shop that still has a few old relics around and we are viewing if from a distopian future. Or something like that. I will have to come up with a story before I do much more so its not all over the place. I just really liked that phone lol!!
You did such an amazing job, especially for someone new to polymer clay. The coffee shop is really coming along and this is such a nice touch. Looking forward to the next installment as usual :)
Use less fimo liquid, this way the small things will not slide around for you, just a dap of the liquid fimo. But I love the result, looking forward to see your next polymer clay tutorial If all your parts are baked you can use E6000 to glue the parts, so you don't have to bake again
You can clean the dust off the surface of polymer clay by using a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol or by gently scraping them out with the end of an xacto knife, and you can eliminate fingerprints by either putting cornstarch/babypowder on your fingertips beforehand or rubbing acetone (nail polish remover) afterwards. If you're not quite ready to bake a piece that you need to add to or chop up into bits later, you can freeze it. If it gets too dry--baby oil; likewise, if it gets too liquidy, baby powder. You can polish it with modpodge when it's done for either matte or glossy protection.
Thank you for all this info!! I am sure this takes years to learn all these tricks so I appreciate you sharing them with me!! I will definitely be looking back to these video comments next time I endeavor into polymer clay ;)
lol well, to be honest I just binged a lot of polymer clay tutorials because I was obsessed with charms and miniatures and such for a good while there >XD But thank you though ^_^
I've heard this happens a lot. It apparently has to do with the moisture and humidity in your area/space. You can generally combat that by drying it with a fan, but some people still have an issue with it getting tacky later on. I just read about how many people have been using polyurethane products, which can be heated to speed up the drying process, so you could maybe try that.
Thanks for helping out! I will have to look into some polyurethane. I think there is also a glaze made by some polymer clay brands but not sure what or how expensive it is.
Hi Ara, I adore your personality and your work. On the phone number back in 69 and the 70's my parents number did not have an area code. 644-6697 was our home phone number, a phone just like yours on the wall, but in yellow. A suggestion: maybe a polymer clay rat or mouse. I adore spiders and their webs at a distance of course. Old coffee cans. Maybe an old coffee advertisement poster behind the counter. I love seeing their are people like me still in this world who have a playful personality. I do hope you will show us/me how you did the floor in your abandoned coffee shop and your walls, I thought you said the inside walls are made out of poster board and the outside brick walls is foam board. And how did you do the boards/studs inside the walls?...You started all that area off camera then wanted to share your fun...I am trying to make one with you... You are an amazing teacher. It's kinda like you grew up with all of us as your neighbor and we're all still great friends. Please Ara show all of us your beginnings of the abandoned coffee shop~ the inside walls, studs, window and frames, and the floor. I watched how you made the red tile floor but it's not the abandoned tile coffee shop tile floor. Have a wonderful day... Dawn from Pearland, Texas
Thank you Dawn!! I love the suggestions of the creatures! I think there will definitely be a few of those sneaking around ;) I remember when we made the change from 7 digit numbers to 10 digits and I was thinking I would never be able to remember 10 digits!!! haha! Making a tutorial for the tear-away wall is a great idea as well. I will add it to my list but not sure when I will be able to make that for you. I will try to fit it in as soon as I can! Have a wonderful day as well my fellow Texan :)
Bentley House Minis Thank you Ara, I have subscribe and I share and tell anyone I find that would enjoy your work as much as all the rest of us do. I have so much fun watching your talent unfold before our eyes. I just love the... "I have No ideal what I am doing!" You are so natural and real...you just being you. I love that. Bring us all more when you can I know it can be hard when you have to work around your real life...although we all feel like your family too. Like I said, you have made a wonderful and fun teacher and you do the things so many of us love..."abandoned"~ I know! It's different, but the mystery draws us for a closer look. P.S. I also loved your note on Matthew 6:19-20. You and your family our prayers... Keep the fun coming!! Until then...
I am so glad you feel that way. I definitely want to make this channel into more of a community and a safe place to share projects and ideas with each other! Your comment has blessed me today! Much love, Ara
Lol hi Ava I think your doing fine , we still call the machine a pasta machine even though most people use polymer clay purpose built machine some of use use an actual pasta machine as it is cheaper 😹😹 plus I had a spare one for making real pasta sheets lol as Dad bought me an Electric pasta machine so my manual pasta machine was high jacked to be used for me polymer clay😹😹😹 A drinking straw is handy for making small circles as you can get them in three different sizes, well I know I can not sure about in the States 🤔🤔 I love the idea for the baking plate using a glass lid 😺 I bought a box of 6x6 inch ceramic tiles and a few 8x8 inch tiles as they fit into my polymer clay oven as I have a dedicated oven for just craft work only. I love what you have done so far for the building it’s looking great 🤗🤗🤗
This one says "do not use for food" on it lol so its one of those just for clay machines ;) Great idea about the straws... I will have to keep a look out for them! So far the glass jar lids are working out great. And I get so many candles as teachers gifts I will never run out!
Bentley House Minis 😹😹 I never even looked at the ones made for clay after I saw the prices here in Australia 😹😹 decided that I could use the pasta machine I had on hand best part was I had the extra head for my machine for making ribbon pasta 😹😹😹 then later I found an attachment to add to the machine so I did not need to turn the handle manually anymore which was great with arthritis it’s hard to,turn the machine 😹😹😹😹 Glad the lids are working out for you I have found a couple myself since they don’t have the bases anymore not since the got broken have no idea as to,why I kept the lids 😹 lol ahh children can be so sweet when buying gifts for their teacher 🤗🤗🤗 If you are not able to find the straws let me know I have a heap of the fat ones they are for drinking Asian bubble tea 😳 lol come to think of it have a lot of different size straws which I bought a while back for using with the clay 😹😹😹
Love the phone, so cute! They make a varnish for polymer clay, Sculpey gloss glaze that has worked well for me. You can use acetone to get rid of fingerprints and dust. And baby wipes to get leftover clay colors off your hands :) Red clay can stain your fingers and transfer to lighter colors. I look forward to what else you add to the coffee shop! :)
Heather Martell Thank you for the polymer clay tips! I plan to do a lot more in the shop in the coming weeks :) I just have to get past the start of school! Thanks!
Awww darn. Thank you for letting me know!! I will also add a blub to my description section so people know not to follow that step... hopefully. If it gets gross maybe it will add to the ick factor though! Much appreciated! -Ara
Thank you so much Iris! Yes I will do the broken tile tutorial next time I get a reason to make one. Sadly I started building this before I started recording. I have also had requests for the 2x4 stud wall that I skipped over so I will do that one too. :D
I love your abandoned coffee shop. The phone is adorable. Now you just need a dilapidated old counter and an old vintage cash register. Maybe a couple of round tables with tattered tablecloths where patrons would have sat to enjoy their coffee. Maybe a faded chalkboard menu/price list? Sorry I tend to get carried away with ideas lol
spg35fem thank you so much! The counter tops are what I am working on in the video that I will post tomorrow so I hope you like them! I love all your suggestions and will add them to my idea list ;) thanks again!
That turned out Very Nice. I Never use polymer clay, since it etched tru the container i was storing in it.. now i use paper clay, or porcelaine clay, that air drys :)
Yikes!! Yeah I do feel like paper clay can be safer in some instances... but you have to work faster for sure! I have never tried porcelain clay... I will have to pick it up sometime :)

Mind. Blown. 🤯
When I saw the phone hanging there in other videos, it never occured to me that you MADE it!!
😊😊 That was such a fun one!
If it's still an ongoing project I think a little rat hole in the wall bathe counter would fit well
Great suggestion! I definitely want to add a bit of wild life ;)
I want to see the rat 🐀 sculpting! 💕

Lol thanks!!
Great job. For the phone cord, the spring inside a spent pen could also work
Great suggestion!! Thanks! :)
You did such an amazing job, especially for someone new to polymer clay. The coffee shop is really coming along and this is such a nice touch. Looking forward to the next installment as usual :)
Thanks so much Annejuli! I am thinking that the counter tops will be next (maybe ;)

It sure is
Please do more polymer clay tutorials. I’m new at it too and I like the way you explain the steps. Thank you so much for sharing your creativity.
I am glad you enjoyed the video!! I definitely see more clay in my future minis ;) Thank you!!

A drinking straw is handy for making small circles as you can get them in three different sizes, well I know I can not sure about in the States 🤔🤔

rubbing alcohol on a q-tip will clean fingerprints and dust from your project before baking

Your welcome! I can't wait to see the results :) Haha good luck with the new school year!
Thank you!
Awesome!
Great video. But change your gloss. Nail polish will break down the polymer and make it sticky in time. I’ve learned that the hard way
Awww darn. Thank you for letting me know!! I will also add a blub to my description section so people know not to follow that step... hopefully. If it gets gross maybe it will add to the ick factor though! Much appreciated! -Ara
Bentley House Minis use a glaze og a hard UV resin
you say you get a lot of ideas from your subscribers. you know what they say......112K minds are better than one
This is great! You are doing a fab job on this project.
will you do floor tutorial some day? For the broken tiles. I really love your work!
Thank you so much Iris! Yes I will do the broken tile tutorial next time I get a reason to make one. Sadly I started building this before I started recording. I have also had requests for the 2x4 stud wall that I skipped over so I will do that one too. :D
Have you considered creating online courses for a fee?
Do you mean like on a website similar to skillshare?
That or a personal page like certainlycaroline has
I will check out her site to see how she does it. Its a great idea so I will have to keep it in mind! Thanks ;)
Great job! It looks very realistic.
Thank you Debbie!!
I use latex finger covers so that I dont get finger prints and marks on my clay (don't just cut the fingers off latex gloves, it doesn't work, I've tried 😂😂) I just put them on my thumbs and first two fingers. Much easier than trying to wipe finger prints off afterwards
Great tip thank you! I hate wearing entire gloves so I will have to look into the finger tips :)
Cradle... thing hand set sets into. I used rotary dial. Lol. Touch dial was "modern"
with wax paper under your clay you can move the paper instead of the clay helping it to retain it's shape
Thank you Sherrie! I love all suggestions for working with polymer clay!
I know this was made 5 years ago, but if it has been said, rubbing alcohol on a que tip removes fingerprints, nail marks, drit or hair (if you have animals)
Thank you! I would have thought I'd need to work the clay, too!
Someone recently mentioned working the clay and I have no idea if it's necessary... I will have to research that ;)
Love it 🥰 it came out perfect
Thank you Diana!!💖
More history with Ara plz 😄
Haha! Definitely ;)
hilarious Ara - can't believe you forgot 3 keys. lol still fabulous though.
Well its seems that the nail polish may ruin the polymer clay anyhow... so if it does I will remake it with 12 keys lol!! Thanks Joanne!!
Love it ❤️ so cute!
Thank you Nabil!!
Love it, really nice work.
Thank you Jenny Ellen!
Clay softener gets rid of finger prints
Hi, the phone is looking great. How about some graffiti on the walls?
That's a great idea too... hmmm... I'd have to located a mini airbrush!! That would look esp great on the outside to grime up the brick ;) Thanks Inger!
I LOVE IT!!! It looks so realistic. Ok. It would with 3 more keys. Nah just kidding!! I really love it. This is such a fun project! !!
Lol thanks Sarah :) Glad you enjoyed!!
Well done!
Thank you Pauline!
perfect!
I really like your works! Tell me, please, how do you bake polymer clay, which is coated with nail polish? Luck is not a problem?
After creating this project I found out that nail polish does not go well with polymer clay. 'Polycrylic' is what works best for polymer clay ;) And I always suggest baking clay according to what it says on the package directions. Each clay is different.
I love this! I can see the highway exit where this sits ;). Have you finished it? Am I missing vids???
Thank you Robin! Yes I finished it recently and there is an entire playlist for this for this project concluding with the story. I hope you enjoy! ;)
Loved it love your channel tfs 💞 yes I would reallly like it if you made more .🙂
Thank you so much Carmens Treasure's!!
oh my god how stupid am I lol was wondering how u gonna get the wrapped cord so small thinking clay lol 🙄so embarrassed... 14:16
That's one thing I enjoy about making minis.... using different materials to convince and trick the eye! ;)
you got that right 😉
