You can tell that French Stewart studied Dan Adams voice, and did an impression, but made his own
Funny enough I use to think that Inspector Gadget 2 was really the 1st Film, probably because I mostly grew up with this Movie the most compared to the 1st Inspector Gadget Film and I also didn't know that this was somewhat meant to be a DTV Film instead of a Theaterical Film.
I didn't even know this film existed honestly
I wouldn't say this film is a "major" upgrade, but it is clearly an upgrade.
This Inspector Gadget 2 movie with French Stewart in it is an adequate adaptation of a cartoon that should’ve been the first Inspector Gadget movie.
And if you ask me, since Inspector Gadget 2 is released in 2003, not only it could’ve been the first Inspector Gadget movie instead of the one with Matthew Broderick in it, but it also could’ve been a movie to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Inspector Gadget cartoon since its broadcast debut in 1983.
The only characters that they should fix a little is Brain the dog and Chief Quimby. For Brain, why not make him as a cgi dog character that Frank Welker would voice? Similar to Scooby Doo in the live action Scooby Doo movie? As for Chief Quimby, have him hide in an appropriate place like Inspector Gadget’s closet to give Gadget a message to read. Then crumples it up and throws it beside the chief to self-destruct.
Yes it is. It improves, and almost outright ignores its predecessor.
FINALLY! Someone who appreciates this movie for what it is!😄
I’m with you Tay, I never liked the first Inspector Gadget because of how unfunny and awkward it is. Not to mention a few moments and scenes might traumatize some kids.
I’m more comfortable with Inspector Gadget 2.
I remembered watching and owning this movie as a kid. I grew up with the sequel than the first movie. I will give this it is still an improvement over the first movie and stays true and faithful 🙏🏻 to the original cartoon and listen criticism over the flaws of the first movie but still not a perfect movie.
I would have wished they got Frank Welker to do Claw's voice, unlike what the first movie wasted with Don Adams.
I have to say I even think French Stewart Did a very decent impression of Don Adams's voice
I mean, if you have seen his other work, he already does a Don Adams inspired voice and mannerisms
@@Nick-ty9usoh then in that case the casting is perfect
@@williampulfer-melville8536 like that clip he showed in the video he does a Don Adams voice
Fun fact: Inspector Gadget 2 was made by the guy who was going to direct The Marvin the Martian live action movie until it got canceled for the Hong Kong Phooey live action movie (which also got cancelled). Now his 2nd cartoon adaptation is Woody Woodpecker 2017.
Funny enough, Inspector Gadget 2 was filmed in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia which it was my home city!
You're covering Godzilla 1998 next!? AWESOME! I remember a few years ago I asked you if you would cover the movie and you were unsure if it truely counts until I mentioned the baby Zilla's were men in suits and Zilla was a giant animatronic in a few shots.
Sometime I think you should definitely do a review on the tv series Zorro Generation Z As that was essentially Batman Beyond with Zorro
Funnily enough, B-Mask covered both live-action inspector gadget movies on his channel too. What a funny coincidence.
An interesting fact about this sequel was the fact that they actually filmed the film in Queensland Australia With this film even having some well known Australian actors such as Mark Mitchell An Australian actor who was well-known for playing a Greek Fruit seller Kon the Fruiterer
Was also in round the twist.

IG2 is more or less how a live action version of the series should have gone. I know when I first watched it, I was weirded out but upon rewatch it is incredible charming in its own little way and if anything, what made me feel off about it was just the dated effects and the weird way it was shot but regardless of that, it's a fun little movie. I wish they had made G2 canon within the series because I wanted to see more of her as she was gaining more humanity and becoming more than just a robot.
If there is only ONE complaint I have, it's Quimby. Quimby usually was always in Gadget's corner even when he was fucking up at his most but that's because Quimby always saw Gadget as the only person who could get results (even though Penny and Brain did most of the work) and you could tell in the series that the guy not only had a lot of faith in him but trusted Gadget like a friend as well. Quimby in the movies took too much of an antagonistic role but that was made up for with Penny being delightful and the scientist being the other human factor that had faith in Gadget. With this, I really don't know how they would have fit a positive Quimby into the movie unless they booted him out with another chief of police who wanted to take his place and hated Gadget. I could see that being the thing, with the end result of the new guy getting blasted with the exploding messages in the end, but aw well.
Edit: Wanted to add one thing I usually do with these adaptations is review the scenes as if they were done in the cartoon and see how they would intersect and with IG2, there is WAY more balance as the weird humor in this works perfectly for the world of the cartoon. The bit where the old lady is showing the other prisoners how to defend themselves is 100% a joke that would have been done in the original. Maaaaan, I would love to see a reanimated project of IG2 done in the Franco-Japanese animation style of the original series because it would be so PERF. 😩👌
I honestly think that this Film is somewhat of a Set-up compared to the first Film (which I will admit its been a VERY LLOOOOOOOOONNG time since I seen either Inspector Gadgets 1 and 2 on VHS and DVD).
I'm not 100% sure if its because its the same Crew who worked on the first Inspector Gadget and had to do more research on the OG Cartoon Show of the same name so that they won't make the same mistake again or probably a totally different Crew who did grew up with the OG Inspector Gadget Cartoon Show, which might explain why the casting for Inspector Gadget himself, Penny and the Chief are different from how they looked in the 1st Movie.
Update: 1:25, That's a good point about how this should've gotten a Theaterical released last the first Film did.
Double-Update: 1:29, Not sure why French Stewart wasn't casted as Gadget in the first Movie.
5:50 Even though Gadget is technically a cyborg but I get what you mean
I wouldn't say Inspector Gadget 2 was a major upgrade...it is more like a slight upgrade. Sure it is not as hideous or awfully cringe as the first movie, but it is still decently bad due to the CGI and some bad acting. But I still love the movie cuz it is a guilty pleasure for me.
It is much more accurate to the cartoon, but as a film I think it's worst than the 1st.
I love how this sequel is much closer to the feel of the original cartoon and is a major step up than its predecessor.
I love inspector gadget mainly the Saturday morning cartoon series it’s a classic
Wow, that's two videos about this movie this month.
May I suggest for puppet panic the 1956 adaptation of Moby Dick
I liked the 2nd film way more than the first one. French Stewart wasn't perfect, but he was way closer to Inspector Gadget than Matthew Brodrick.
I can actually see as the right way to do an Inspector Gadget movie.
I haven’t seen this in years. I don’t recall enjoying it anymore than the first. But I guess it has its moments.
You should review the woody woodpecker movies
I’ll be a bit surprised if it is that much better than the first movie.
What, it had a sequel?
So, you did not know that?
Admittedly, I didn’t mind the odd mixture of cartoony slapstick with more grounded realistic elements from the first movie. Granted, the only other Inspector Gadget media I had watched at that point was the movie, “Inspector Gadget’s Biggest Caper Ever!” Plus, I wasn’t what you would call a traditional super fan or something like that. I was simply just interested in the concept of Inspector Gadget, and wasn’t as uptight about stuff like cartoon accuracy at the time. (Also, the silly Gadgetmobile was by far my favorite character in the CGI movie, and both live action movies!)
THAT ALL BEING SAID, HOWEVER… while I still enjoyed the first Inspector Gadget live action movie, I will admit that the sequel, (being way more in line with what I remembered from the CGI movie, which of course was way more cartoony and silly to match what I presumed was the tone of the original show) was a lot more entertaining throughout and actually felt like a Saturday morning cartoon come to life! Despite enjoying the lore and origin story crafted for Gadget in the first film, the sequel was definitely waaaayyy more entertaining and enjoyable!
I like Inspector Gadget 2
The only actor who returned from the first film was the voice actor for Gadgetmobile
Comedian D.L Hughley
Sometines sequels are better than the originals.
I am sad to say that you like this garbage movies as a kid. Maybe I should get the second movie a second chance
No
Why everyone prefer this one? Maybe it is more similar to the cartoon, but to me the humor have a big downgrade, the Inspector is very annoying and the actor doesn't help much with this, the car character is very absent in this movie, the story is very generic, the cgi is terrible. Is good that Dr Claw not show his face like in the cartoon, but is very meh since we already saw his face in the first movie, and to me his version in the first movie made by Ruper Everett is much superior and fun. To me the sequel is one of the worst sequels that i've ever saw and the first one still an ok and fun and enjoyable movie.
At least Penny looks more with her version in the cartoon.
