Anyone watching & listening to this advent service will have been lifted higher than they ever thought it possible.The choir & organ was magnificent.I visited This cathedral many years ago, & shall never forget the huge occasion.

'O Thou The Central Orb' was my wedding anthem in 1985. I reckon this is the best rendition I have ever heard!

What a wonderfully worshipful service. Everything was beautifully done; the singing was intentional and robust - interpreting the texts so well, the organ music was superb, the readers read with conviction and the prayers were "spot on". All was to the Glory of God! Thank you all for the hard work that went into this truly astonishing liturgy. What a thrill to worship with your community in this way. Astonishing liturgy - and how does a cathedral in somewhere no bigger than a large village maintain a musical standard like that?
What the organist played while the choir was moving down the side aisles was profoundly moving to me, especially when the triumphant reed came in at 23:38. Incredible. Then that reed laid a glorious single note foundation as the moving parts finally worked to a close, a mighty close! Goosebumps galore man. Had to listen to it over and over. Never heard anything so moving in my life, a perfect piece to accompany those awesome lights, moving east to west, as the Divine Light of Jesus Christ entered the world.
Just that part of your service lifted a lonely guy in Michigan into the heavenlies. Don't even dare to watch the rest of it.
What a great post. You need to listen to the rest, particularly the last hymn starting at 1.17.
@andrewgreenwood8554 I just did. It is insane! That hymn is not familiar to me but man oh man after that unusual modulation b4 the final verse, the choir lit into it in ascending glory with a descant to end all descents. I think the trebles split into 2 or 3 parts at the end! With full organ dancing attendance (with that dang reed skillfully intertwined). I have to wait a bit b4 replaying that.
You know, our bodies cannot handle sung praises like this, it goes direct to the soul and spirit.
I pray to God this worship team realizes what they have done here. The first commenter is totally 👌.
@@kevinvanderkooi3656 When you’ve done with this try the Candlemas service from 10 months ago which is somewhere on Ripon’s RUclips site. The choir wasn’t quite as large then but the Epiphany music was splendid.

Wonderful service. Great organ cadenza, etc. in Lo He Comes. Only one thing spoiled it for me and that was the incessant coughing from someone seated near a microphone !
Which choristers are participating? The girls or the boys? Both?
The problem is Devil runs the world. He is lier and murderer. That's why we've got the Gospel about the God's kingdom.

The organ was far to loud, I couldn,t hear the choir, otherwise, lovely.
Why why why did the organist have to destroy the last verse of the last hymn?? Poor. Also wachet at the start began too fast and got faster. Slow it down
Why are all these great British cathedral and collegiate chapel choirs compromising past excellence by diluting the trebles with girls' and/or women's voices? No one can deny the one-of-a-kind sound quality of the boy treble's voice. Why do all the choir directors do all they can to try to make the girls sound like the boys? Why not stick with the male treble voice to start with?
