It’s just over two weeks til our fantastic Summer Organ Festival, showcasing all our magnificent pipe organ can do, in the stunning setting of the nave. The setting is both intimate and grand, as the quarter of a million-pound mobile console’s placed in the crossing with the audience around it so that they can actually see it being played; more often the organist is tucked away in the organ lof...

A Coronation Message from the Dean of Ripon
A lovely service. The choir singing Zadok the Priest was outstanding.
That motet during communion was outstanding. That music will reverberate in hearts and souls for a long time.
How fortunate the baptism and confirmation candidates were to be able to participate in such a glorious service. And thanks to Tim for introducing me to yet another tremendous closing voluntary.
The quality of the music in this church continues to be insane! Also, though I am not of your tradition here in the US, not even close, your Dean John Dobson is getting under my skin (in a good way) so that just pulls me in further. Suggestion? Consider adding a piano or keyboard hidden away in whatever that room is behind the choir. I volunteer to play it. The biggest problem tho is getting across the pond cuz I have a fear of flying. Not crazy about boats either. 😢
What a clear, concise, and reassuring sermon on who Jesus is, and why we need Him to see God and come close to God. Helpful for Christian and non - Christian alike.
Obviously a very fine musician. The recital at Ripon however was for me, a disappointment as I only knew one piece played. I do feel that some of our fine organists are going down the route of playing unknown pieces because they are more of a challenge than the 'lollipops' and it is becoming more about the organist that the audience. The Black Dyke Band have made this mistake. Their performances are now about demonstrating the individual dexterity of the performer, which is how I felt about Mrs Dienes-Williams' performance.
Lovely Service . My treat at the end of the day. To sit and really absorb the Music and the Word. Thank you for continuing the streaming.
Would be really good to hear some of the more well-know pieces of organ music played..Accepting that these might seem a tad 'boring' to top organists, please don't go down the Black Dyke Band route of concentrating primarily on music which enables the individual performers to demonstrate their talent at the expense of entertaining the audience. 'Lollipops' have their place. Tim Harper is in my book a master of this instrument. His improvisations when required at the end of hymns are amazing.
I would love to be able to attend this, particularly to hear the Toccata in C by Schmidt. Tim introduced me to Schmidt with his playing of Schmidt’s “Hallelujah” prelude and fugue after morning service.
How lovely that Tim played this on Sunday and I got to hear it. 😊
Thank you very much for this in every sense of the word, RICH service from Ripon Cathedral!!!!!! I've for several months been watching on RUclips different services and celebrations from your beautiful cathedral, and I'm very impressed indeed! it gives me a lot to watch and listen! I got to know about you via young Archie Davies and his wonderful organ play! Best regards Nils from Norway.
Thank you for providing services online for those who cannot attend in person.
I notice the organ.bench is empty during the closing hymn. Does the organist play a different console or using 'autopilot' ? 😂
Please see the answers to the same question asked last week……check the broadcast. Separate console.
SMUKT!
Thank you
Ngl I miss choir ❤ But I found somewhere else to carry on 😊
First class all the way. Just the way it should be done to and for the Lord Jesus Christ.
Is it just me or does it look like no-one is at the organ during the recessional hymn? So is there another console somewhere? A (gasp) recording being played?
There are two consoles; the main one is on the choir screen, overlooking both the Choir and the Nave. The mobile console was provided in 2001.
It is true, there is no one at the organ console. The fact is Tim prefers to play his post service voluntary from the organ loft where he isnt distracted by people talking loudly around him. Its a bit of a distance so he heads up during the notices and plays the last hymn from up there. For interest the consoles are identical apart from a couple of small details.
@RiponCathedral672AD Thanks both of you for clearing that up for me. It sure was strange hearing the full organ and no one is sitting there! It was an awesome service btw, loved all of it.
@@RiponCathedral672AD Here in Scandinavia the congregation sit in silence for the organ voluntary, which essentially part of the service and as such, shouldn’t really be applauded, although in Tim’s case I would have trouble resisting.
Same recesional hymn as last week. Someone must like it.
Thank you for this service.
I think he played it at a decent speed. In a building that big, it can sometimes be a challenging thing to judge - inevitably, you’ll get lag at certain points. Also, in this sort of scenario, the organist is boss and ideally leads rather than accompanies. Great job, in my view. 😎
Absolutely. His speed was consistent throughout all verses.
Lovely service, pity the organist canters through the hymns, poor congregation can’t keep up especially on the last hymn 😮
geoffrey griffith watching from philadelphia pennsylvania usa 🇺🇸 ♥️ and formerly of all saints anglican church choirs in st peter barbados west indies in the 1960 ties this a beautiful lovely service God bless all at this cathedral amen 🙏
So impressed with the high standard of music from Ripon Cathedral choir. All congratulations to Dr Krippner and his team for reviving the choral tradition here and producing such fine singers in such a short time.
Not forgetting Tim Harper the usual organist - how fortunate they are to have him and long may he stay.
Fantastic Easter Sunday Festal Evensong, the best organ accompanying of any cathedral on RUclips !!!
I have been blessed, thank you from the west coast of america
Thanks to the brilliant singers and organists today.
Is Canon Michael alright?. He looks to be in a lot of pain. Lovely service.
I asked that and he says he's fine.
That was no ordinary cathedral Easter service! Oh man no. So I have to respond with a post. That processional hymn is not familiar to me but I'll never forget it, each verse starting low low in the organ pedals then the congregation with the choir sweeping it up high high into the rafters at each verse end. I appreciate the symbolism of it all, from Golgatha to Resurrection! Then there was that choral piece starting at 16:46. Thought it was going to be the usual Gregorian thing your liturgy requires, boy was I wrong. Where do you find these pieces? It's like a couple minutes into the thing it began rising and rising with the organ and voices lifting us all up with it into a great paean of praise! Do you know what that was? It was your gift to the Lord Jesus Christ! It was for HIM! It was thanks for what He did! It was all for HIM! And that is as far as I got.
You’ve discovered Ripon Kevin. Love it when people appreciate the quality of what they have just heard. Listen to the other Easter services, they are all as good. If you press on “more” you get to the Order of Service.
@andrewgreenwood8554 Thanks for the heads up! Would like to mention 1) it was very endearing to see the white-robed choristers using fingers to help the red-robed trebles follow their line of music, 2) those colored ribbons that some wear are SHARP looking! 3) the sun blasting down on a section of adult singers was so bright it translated a couple of them into Light Beings. You certainly covered all the bases. Everything about your choir is exceptional!
@@kevinvanderkooi3656 Not mine Kevin unfortunately. I am online like you! But you are correct, choir, Director of Music, organist, all world-class. It is like someone commented at Christmas, it lifts you to a place you wouldn’t have thought possible.
@andrewgreenwood8554 Oops, we'll nice to meet you sir! Ripon is certainly a hidden treasure! Only 655 views so far and it holds spiritual treasures the whole world needs, like Christ Himself. Beyond anything I've ever seen.
Wonderful ❤
Simply marvellous, especially the Dove anthem. Bavaria is going to be stunned when the choir goes on tour.
What was the Gloria? It was stunning and not on the music lists, that I can find.
Dove Gloria
You’ll find information about it on page 3 of the order of service which is under ’more’ below Easter Eve vigil
An absolutely stunning rendition of David Stevenson-Price’s St John Passion by the Cathedral Choir. Perfect articulation and wonderful soloists. It must have taken very many hours of tough rehearsals. Congratulations.
I see that York Minster had two donkeys but they didn’t let them inside, so you win. 😊
Good to have the new tune Corvedale to ‘There’s a wideness’.
Great to have 'How shall I sing that majesty?' for the offertory.
Excellent sermon.
I like the way the organ drowns out the singing.
Lovely Service. Good to have the Livestream continuing!! It is a real blessing! Thank You .
Thanks to the visiting singers and great organist. Beautiful arrangement of 'Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us.'
What exactly is Anglicanism? Why don't you become Roman Catholics. I've never seen the table kissed in an Anglican church before. I wonder what Cranmer would have thought.
This is prevalent in English cathedrals. Lichfield now has a 'shrine' in the Lady chapel which effectually means the exclusion of protestants but this is high Anglican inclusivity without any give from. the catholics who merely see these Anglican churches as being in absentia.
@@normanchristie4524Liverpool Cathedral was probably the most Protestant of english cathedrals. The Bishop and the Dean were always evangelicals and would never have worn a chasuble in the Cathedral and yet now the current Bishop and Dean think nothing of it. Its difficult to understand why the clergy are more evangelical than for many years and yet the catholic trappings are more apparent than at any time since the reformation.
Just amazing all the classic’s in one service! Well done to the master of music and all choristers at Ripon!
Thanks so much for your superb rendition of my Carillon for the voluntary, Tim. A joy to hear it so brilliantly played on this great organ.
Pity the last few bars of the closing voluntary are getting cut off again. There seems to be a slight time lag when broadcasting on RUclips and I think possibly if you stop the recording just after the last chord it clips on RUclips just before the last chord.
It is strange because the last chord was missing when I listened first time but when I replayed the end the last chord was in fact there + a little congregation chatter afterwards.
@@timharrison143You are right! When I listen in the RUclips app the last chord is cut off but if I listen to RUclips in a browser it is all there. very weird. Anyhow, splendid piece you have written there, with or without the last chord.
Thank you, Andrew! So pleased you like it and very good of you to say so. Best. Tim
Wonderful service, beautiful music. Such a brilliant organist
Wow, very impressive candle displays, choir and organist!
Wow. What a fabulous service. I couldn't pause it ti make a drink even. Wonderful hymns, amazingly talented organist. I must try to get to Ripon next Candlemas. I attended Candlemas at Lichfield Cathedral, but this is on anither level.
