  • Join me for a walk around the centre of Ripon, the third-smallest city in England! However, what Ripon lacks in size, it more than makes up for in beauty and historical value, with a fascinating history dating back well over 1,000 years. It may feel like a small town, but Ripon is without doubt one of England's great cities!
On our walk around Ripon, we pass a number of interesting landmarks, including Ripon Cathedral, The Old Deanery, The Old Courthouse, Kirkgate, The Royal Oak Pub, Market Place, Cabmen's Shelter, Ripon Obelisk, Ripon Town Hall, The Wakeman's House, Lavender Alley, the Victorian Workhouse Museum, Allhallowgate Methodist Church, and the Prison & Police Museum.
Thank you so much to the following sites for their help in my research of Ripon:

Good evening! And welcome to this walk around the heart of England's third-smallest city, Ripon! Home to 1,350 years of captivating history, Ripon may be small, but it packs a big punch - and there's so much to see on its delightful streets!
If you're in Ripon in the evening, a real highlight of the city is of course the 'setting the watch' ceremony at 9pm, performed pretty much every night for the last 1,136 years. But why have the people of Ripon bothered to keep performing this for so long?
Well, as well as a passion for the tradition, it's said that there's a bit of a curse surrounding the Ripon Hornblower if they fail to fulfil their duties in setting the watch. Now that might seem a bit like mumbo-jumbo, but back on the 3rd January 2011, owing to the cold temperature, the lips of the then-Wakeman froze to his horn, and he couldn't make a sound.
Just three minutes later - a 9:03pm that day, an earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter Scale hit just outside Ripon, one of the strongest earthquakes in the history of Yorkshire. So, it's imperative that the wakemen do blow their horn, they really are keeping Ripon safe even today!

Thanks! My favourite town, Knaresborough, and now Ripon! I took a bus here from Harrogate, but too late in the day, and didn't have enough time to spend here. I missed a tour of the cathedral. I do want to come here again some day, and maybe get to Studley as well.

Please just 'Walk'... You don't need to be narrative... The surrounding ambience is enough for us...

@@MrSamuelatkinson1 Thank you for your suggestion but when I searched "walking with surrounding ambience" Let's Walk videos are appeared first on the list because RUclips algorithm thinks his narrations as ambience noise. 😂
