Thanks for the clear instructional video. Shows exactly what needs to be done. I have exactly the same spindles so it made this video perfect for me to use.
Hi, great video. I'm trying to install the same brand of tap but the basin type. When I screw the spindle into the housing, so the spindle washer is firmly seated, there are only a few threads of the spindle left to screw on the brass collar. One side just allows the collar to screw on but the other does not. So in your video at 3:40 where you are screwing on the collar, one of mine will not screw on because there are only one or two threads available. Looks like I need a longer length of spindle below the last spindle thread to allow more thread to show at the top? Do they make a longer one? Could I get away with putting washers in the housing before inserting the spindle to raise it up the 5mm or so I need? Thanks.
Thank you, very helpful. Judging by the nice wide shower spray at the end, I could tell it was one of those classic Brasshards-style hi-rise heads. They're not fancy, but damn they still give the best spray 😄 You don't need a big-ass rain shower head if they would just make more normal sized ones with a wide angle spray to begin with!
Hi.im trying to install these into my bath wall outlets ,my current setup has the extention then the washer, is there a way to replace this for the ceramic and spinfle????
Thanks for this, very clear. 1 question I have is when I installed the spindle in 'without' the additional column and test water, it will leak. But as soon as I pop the column and tighten, no more leaks. is this how it works? ie Column is there to stop the leak? thanks.
Hi Drew, nothing like learning how to do things by watching how others do it, well done and simple. Just got my half turn ceramic taps from Bunnings to replace the current ones that need to be arm wrestled closed to stop the dripping, thought it would be a straight swap - wrong. The instructions say to reseat them and my seats are worn. Now I have the same reseater as you still in the sealed packet any tips on how to get all those brass shavings out cause I don't want to get pieces stuck in the new taps. Cheers Stuart from Sydney.
Hi Stuart, if you have the brass bits you have already used your reseater tool. My suggestion wipe it out with your finger and then temporarily re-install your old spindle with a traditional washer. Pop your mains on and open up the tap to flush it all out through the tap (or shower head … you get the drift) and then shut your mains off (again) and install your new ceramic spindle. I trust this makes sense? Cheers Drew
Thanks for the video, I replaced my wall spindle pretty much the same way, however after I did it there's heavy water hammering, I switched off the main, let all the water out and switched the main on again but the issue persists. Any tips on how to fix that? Thanks
Is this vid made for Australia? Anyway....thanks for the little instruction vid but doesn't that cold one you installed turn the wrong way for a cold tap quarter turn spindle? it does according to Reece Plumbing supplies- the hot and cold go opposite directions as a safety precaution. cold clockwise to turn on and hot, anti-clock wise to turn on?
Hi Pete, yes this is made for Australia. You can purchase these spindles from Bunnings and the come in both clockwise and anti-clockwise models. I personally have only ever known taps to open by turning in the anti-clockwise direction, thus that is what I choose to buy and install myself! Cheers Drew
As a plumber of over 50 years even a 1/4 turn tap should be anti-clockwise for on and clockwise for off. It's just a lot safer for people who've been used to traditional washered taps most of their lives. Even when installing a lever style handle on 1/4 turn I still like them to turn the same way for on and off, not opposite.
should always use tape - not just because of the washer - its also help prevent the corrision incase the spindle sezzies, and if that does - you will have a hard time to get it off if you have to
Hi Drew, I have an unrelated question I hope you can help with,I recently installed stainless steel seats in the breach, the cold was perfect but the hot water original seat was so worn when I rethreaded it the new seat just keeps turning and won’t screw into place thus it’s leaking even more now.how can I solve the problem without removing tiles and replacing the breach ?? Cheers.
Hi Brian, It's hard to tell without seeing it myself, but it sounds like the original seat is so stuffed that you don't have enough meat to even screw in a replacement, thus I think that unfortunately you are going to need to install a new breach. Cheers Drew
@@briancarroll9655 they are a press fit. I believe if you have cut a thread to put a screw in seat in that you cannot now go back to a press in seat. But … I am not a plumber … just a jack of ol …. Cheers Drew
My experience is different. My ceramic taps seem to fail after not too long a time usually just one tap. Then you have to replace whole spindle and they only come in pairs. In my case over $200 a pop. Plus plumber if you want the warranty to be in place. Just last night I had to get an emergency plumber because one had decided to drip which quickly turned into a steady flow and it was the hot tap. Also had to cut the shaft to get the tap out because of gumming up and the tiny tool they give you doesn’t get the lever off. A washer for 25c would easily have been replaced. My experience anyway.
Hi Ray, interesting. These are like $25 from Bunnings and I have installed them all over the place with no issues. What brand is your plumber installing at that price? Cheers Drew
@@DrewFixIt hi drew they were caroma trident lever taps from Tradelink plus another online place in Victoria. Must admit I didn’t check Bunnings or if I did I’ve forgotten. Just getting the lever off was impossible. Thanks for the reply and video. Much appreciated. Maybe I’ll check Bunnings now.

Hi Mate, that's correct you need the addition fastener attached as it also has a seal and the spindle will leak through the threads. Cheers Drew

counter-clockwise. North American terminology. sounds more accurate.
Hi! There are a few sizes for wall spindles. How can I select the right one? Thanks
Hi Bao, select the length that matches your existing spindles! Cheers Drew
What happens if the base of the spindle doesn't sit or reach the seating and how do u solve it
As long as the original washer reached the seat this one definitely will! Cheers Drew
I have changed some out with the new tap but they are leaking badly still what am I missing?
Hi Randall, did you check the condition of the seats? Cheers Drew
You don't need to use tape on the threads?
No, there is a fibro washer that you see I installed! Cheers Drew

What about push in seats??
How do they stay in place if there’s no thread?
