    This is the ONLY good video on jack points for Mazda cards from the last decade. For that, wonderful job and many thanks. I only have one question: how viable is it to do this job without the low profile ramps? Is your floor jack not quite as low profile as other models? I would like to hear from anyone who has done it without them and which floor jack you have, thanks.

    • @DrewFixIt
      @DrewFixIt День назад

      Hi Mate, thanks for the feedback! My floor jack whilst low profile is the 3T variant, thus is a little higher than the smaller low profile jacks, however I just like the extra strength of it! Having said that I think it will just scrape under the Mazda without the low profile ramps but then you have trouble seeing exactly where you are putting the jack! Cheers Drew

    Hello Drew, thank you for your usual efforts to guide us for best maintaining tips for our beloved W164, my question is what's exactly the main difference between "Front Diff and Transfer Case"? i know this question is might be a wide-open but what i'm looking for is can we say that the transfer case is a part of the transmission and the front diff is totally separate part of the front end mechanical drive system? and what's the most common issues that may gets the transfer case "like loosen chain for example" and the front diff? i hope you have the simple answer for my question. and thank you in advance! 🙏

    • @DrewFixIt
      @DrewFixIt 8 дней назад

      Hi Mate, the Front Diff is exactly that a differential at the front of the vehicle between the two front wheels whereas the transfer case is used to connect the transmission to both the rear differential and the front differential. I think with these the most common issue with the transfer case is the chain stretching and I am unaware of any common issues at all with the differentials in these vehicles! Cheers Drew

    Great vid as always Drew. Just curious does it have a charging system to keep the battery topped up? Maybe that’s what that diode does?

    • @DrewFixIt
      @DrewFixIt 12 дней назад

      Hi Peter, thanks for the comment! I honestly am not 100% certain about if it has a inbuilt charging system, however this is something that I did wonder when I got the mower as it certainly didn’t come with a portable charger. Now, there is no visible spot to plug a portable charger in so I suspect it is somehow charging whilst it runs … with respect to the diode from memory it looked like it was connected to the coil, so I think what is happening is it charging the battery from a standard VICTA 2 stroke coil as they don’t require any external power to operate normally as a coil, however what the diode could be doing is acting as a crude rectifier… effectively converting a AC voltage from the coil winding to a DC voltage to charge the battery. What I should do is make another video, where I test the voltage at the battery once the engine is running to see if it is charging or not … is this something that you would like to see? Cheers Drew

    Thanks for a great series of vids on these nice cars! I looked on your episode for the transfer case and I understand that they have the same oil in both the automatic transmission and the transfer case. Isnt it advised to change both at the same time? I also read somewhere that they are in fact sharing the same fluid, but it might be an erronous statement ofcourse. The reason Im asking is that I have codes and sometimes limphome on my car, its about 240000 km and first owner listened to the crap about sealed for life, so there are no transmission oils changed. I got the code P0722 and P0721, and sometimes also P0894 together with a limp so the transmission refuse to shift up over 2nd or 3 rd gear. The thing is, this only happens when the gearbox is cold. After some 20 min driving, it runs like new, with smooth shifting and no erratic behaviour whatsoever. It summer here right now, so no extreme cold. I read that those codes can come due to a low oil level (and in my opinion also from to thick oil as it gets when not changed properly, so in the name of science, before I ofcourse change all oils and filter, including the converter(!), I will first pump in some deciliters of oil to see if its curing the problem. Im also thinking that if the fluids are shared, a low level in a 4-matic, might be giving more issues like mine, than in a RWD car. And if not, well, then I guess its time for the sensors themselves and possibly the TCM.. If not only the old oil.. I think Ill get a pump fitting in a can, looks very convenient! Regards from Sweden! /Magnus

    • @DrewFixIt
      @DrewFixIt 14 дней назад

      Hi Magnus, if it was my car I would: 1/ Stop driving the car immediately and 2/ Perform a transmission service exactly as I have demonstrated. This will allow you to clean the sludge and sub micron particles from the pan, put a new filter in (which must be blocked and restricting flow), get some new fluid in and set the level correctly. It’s important to service it as I say without delay because right now driving it as is causing damage. With that being said I will attempt to answer “some” of your questions. The transmission and transfer case do not share the same fluid. Depending upon the variant of your transmission (low friction or not) they may or may not have the same fluid specification. Now, in my case as I explained in this video I have chosen to run a Australian made Penrite transmission fluid which meets all of the MB specifications but if I couldn’t get this particular fluid in my car I would’ve had the traditional blue fluid in the transmission and red in the transfer case. So, as I said above if it were my car I would do the transmission service without delay and then I would probably do it again in 6 to 12 months time again! I hope that this helps? In the meantime … Stor Stark Tack … Cheers Drew

      @DrewFixIt Thanks Drew! Agree fully to not drive more with a car in these conditions! We just went out for a holiday trip when all this began. So have in fact driven about 1500 km since... but careful...Good idea to make another service after 6 months, hopefully it will save the machine! Ok, then I understand, they didn't took the crazy route with sharing fluid at least! Will write the outcome here later! Skål!

    Drew, I've watched number of videos of how to replace this latch, and frankly you've been the best of explaining everything in a simpler way! Thanks a lot mate! cheers from a new subscriber from Saudi Arabia. 👋

      Thanks Mate!! My goal with these videos is to make them as accurate and detailed enough to do the job but explaining as simply as I can at the same time, so your comment is really welcoming!! Thanks Drew

    Excellent tutorial Drew! Say no more! Btw, looks like the part number you have in the description was from a different job. Thermostat replacement perhaps!?

      Hi Charlie, Thanks for the compliment and great pickup on the original part number in the description! As a little channel I do everything myself on the side to a demanding day job so the extra eyes on things like this is actually really appreciated :) I have updated the description to have the OEM part number as: A6421540402 Cheers Drew

    Another great video!!!! Maybe I should give all my mowers to you, because you seem to fix them properly rather than look at them and hoard them in a shed! 🤣🤣 Good work, one less mower I need to worry about haha.

    Beautiful restoration and start Drew....Victa 2 Stroke Flat Top Cowling is iconic..doesnt get any better......Hey Drew you need to make a bench to do these jobs and save your knees..LOLI have one question....Its about the metal wedged shaped spark plug protector which is held in place with lugs on the cooling fins.....There is a hole in the front is there a pin/rivet to hold it in place? All the best mate from Sydney Town!

      Hi Gary, great to hear from you!! Yes I not only need a decent bench but also a decent shed/workshop to put it in!!! To answer your question, yes there is a hole in the front of the spark plug protector and there is a pop-rivet in the hole which keeps the spark plug protector in place! Cheers Drew
