- In this video, I will show you how to reseat a leaking tap using a drill reseater.
Also, see how to give the spindle service and install a new tap washer.

Thanx mate, very very helpful. Thanx to you I managed to recognize a mistake made by a former repairman, there was debree in the rubber of the spindle, copper and some white stuff. I guess: Did not leave tap open when opening the water supply again, so old debree got stuck and and it went leaking. Managed to adjust a 18mm rubber into a 16 mm 1979 spindle for the Italian Faucet I have (Rapetti, they went broke). That was not in ur video;) My first plumber DIY in my life was no disaster thanx to ur great video!

Good tutorial...I have always fixed my own washer and ''O'' rings, and I have used a re-seating tool to clean up the washer seat, but I am always a little concerned
if I have got all the filings cleared out, especially on the en-suite bench tap assembly, hate having to run back from the verge water meter with the tap open just
a little in the hope of being sure all filings have gone....someone should come up with a special fitting the can be screwed in place of the tap assembly that will
allow a good flush into the sink before installing the tap, I know it means another trip to the water meter!!
i like the sauce bottle flushing device, i could never get the taper locking style refacing tools to work right, never knew the tool you use was meant to be driven by a drill, i have one but no instructions when i bought it ions ago from a hardware.

Thanks for the Very Clear and easy to understand video. I need to change our shower tap washer as the cold water is leaking really badly. I am hoping I don't have to seat it as I live in a small rural town in W.A and the nearest Bunnings is a 6 hour round trip to Perth.

hey mate, depends on the spindle. Some have 1 most have 2 these days
If taps are dripping after replacing washers you can lower water pressure by only opening main water tap only 1/4 turn.

the o rings don't stop it dripping do they? just stop it leaking to the outside when the tap is open, water coming out?
and how far down can you take the tap seat? I have one with a black line across it which I suppose is a groove and that's where the endless dripping is from. but i've gone down what seems like a long way to me and it is still there. Must be a thing that happens a bit. so how far down can we go?
and i'm thinking now get a push in reseat. so what about them?

How far you can reseat is a difficult question to answer mate. Is it in the wall like a shower breach or on a basin where you can replace it with ease. Sometimes if the cut on the seat is deep you might have to tap in a new seat instead of facing the one that is there. Sorry I can't give you a more direct answer without seeing and being there
@@ezyfixplumbing9552 hey, hi... thanks for that. I'll take a punt on one of these 'tap in' replacement seats and then if that doesn't work I'll go for the hydroseal 'screw in' job.
I'll try and measure how much depth of seat there is left somehow. I wondered if this 'squiggly black thread' across the seat, from inside to outside, was a known happening and if so what is it? cracked brass casting? they are cast are they? or fault in the casting? you get that, do you? or there's some magic bug that eats through? I'll believe anything. :)
Ever have the tap washer expand so much you need pliers to get it out?
Hi mate, yes many a time I've had that happen. Just need small screw driver, pointy nose pliers and a torch.

I was about to fix our leaking shower taps. I've removed the spindle and discovered a hole below the seat. Is this normal? Or is it reseating gone too far and I need to call a plumber?

Correct. That is what the fiber washer is for. That is the red colour bit on the end of the spindle body
I suppose in very old houses the taps would have been reseated on many occasions and there would not have much brass left on the pipe. How do you know when you can no longer reseat the tap using this reseating tool?
mate there is really only 1 way and that is to keep reseating until you bust through then you'll need to replace the breach. just don't do it on a Saturday afternoon when plumbing supply shops are closed for a new breach.

Hi there im using the exact same resetting tool from bunnings and i have been screwing down the tool thread bit into the red fibre o ring before spinning the drill bit. I notice you dont bother with this step and you get a perfectly smooth face. Is this why my tap is still leaking after resettling?
Hi mate, no I don't think using a fiber washer on the tool will make any difference. If it's still leaking it must have a small imperfection on the seat or you've gone too far on the seat and now the breach may need replacing as if you've gone to far it will be to thing to install a new stainless steel seat

hey mate, I use a hydro seal re-seater and cause I use the thing every day I also have a tungsten cutter and not a standard head. For the average jo the standard cutter that comes with it will be fine

Seating in my showers have cracks, no matter how much I drill to flatten it out the cracks are still there, I have the same problem throughout the house.
When do you know you have drilled too much and you need the plumber
Hey mate, without seeing them its hard to tell how much is left on the seat and how much you are taking off. When to call a plumber? when you've busted through the back of the seat. Wouldn't recommend doing it over the weekend but. callouts are a bitch or worse can't get anyone and you have no water for the weekend. sounds like you may have spindle extensions. did you get a little brass looking thing that was similar shape as a washer?
@@ezyfixplumbing9552 yes there is a extension but how do I get the washer out I can remove the extension the inside washer will stay there for life.
