    Hi Bill, great DIY channel. Just a question as l used the reseating tool and the brass is looking clean, however the brass ring has these imperfections and they seem to get bigger after reseating. Do l continue to resurface and will it eventually get shaved perfectly?

    Mate thank you very much, the only isse i have is depending on how much crap is taken away by the cleaner ,you have to be carefull not have that stuff get stuck in the threads when you put the tap back on ,so clean it perfectly if you can with out putting the tap back on, thats all, but perfect upload champ and saved my headaches from the missis why cant you fix it, i was worried that the tap washers buckled the brass behind the washer and would need to take off the tiles and get it all replaced, cheers buddy and keep up the great work. :)

    Great demo! I just did that to my taps and now watching the video on how to do it for some reason XD
    My fear with re-seating every time I do it, is that I'll shave off too much brass over time and will end up changing the pipes. Is that a valid concern?

    Got one job did the same way take the head off and flush the pipe, however the copper shred was stuck in the flexible hose reduce water pressure. I would recommend take the hose off from the wall give the flushing. Or don't put spindle on, give a quick on and off completely flushed. It's my feedback.

    I got the reseat tool from Bunnings. Not the drill model you’re using but the model you turn by hand and it works great.

    I have same style bathroom faucet and my seal keeps tearing, the one that sits on top of the spring... It's happening for both the cold and hot sides. It was fine forever now they're breaking every two weeks. Any idea what the heck I've done wrong?

    And when they still leak? It’s not a small leak, I’ve ground so much away, I have gone through seven washers and styles of outlets (including ceramic), this is super frustrating. It’s as if the tap is still open/half on. Is it possible to grind it too far?

      If you screw the spindle in the closed position you risk trapping little pieces of metal against the washer. Flush them out first by leaving the spindle open when you screw it up.

    I did the washers and re-seated the tap but it still leaks. I suppose I will have to get a new tap. I note these problems are always with the hot tap which tend to damage the whole seat eventually. Thanks for the explanations.

    Awesome info video. I really thought it would help me... that was until I tool the taps off and discovered that some bugger has filled the gaps behind and into the wall right to the tiles with filler/silicon of some sort and I can't get to the spindle to take it off!

      Hi this is very common, the silicone is to prevent water leaks. You can’t cut it out using a utility knife to gain access to the spindle 👍👍👍

    Nice. Can we please have a video on how to know increase shower pressure. I have two showers, of which one is good but the other shower pressure is very low. I tried to change the valve and clean showerhead. Nothing helped. Thank you.

      Hi. Shower heads these days have (plastic) restrictors inside at the connection. You can try removing it.

    After doing all this, the shower is still dripping.
    New valves too.
    I shaved down the surface twice, but still leaking. The surface is shiny. Do I keep going?

      The plumbing section where all the washers are. It's a manual tool though. We've found that after a few uses the seating ends up with a rippling effect which never goes away. I will try the drill type of tool next time. Maybe a plumbers supplier has them.

    I have re seated a tap several times and it just starts dripping again. The water keeps wearing a groove in the seat in a very short time.

    The only thing I did not like about your video is, why didn't you clean behind the caps before you replaced them? Ew! Just 2 more minutes, if that. 😕

      Once the handle is on and you turn it to the off position, it will close the washer. The tap handle is what operates the spindle to open and close the washer 👍

    Mine leaks in the wall behind the taps when I turn the water off in my shower. Can't figure out why but it's a problem because I can't get access to it because the wall is covered in marble! Not sure what to do at this point.

      You can try getting access from the other side of the wall ( which ever room is backing onto the taps) 👍

    Does anyone know what causes this? I’ve found sometimes a mysterious nick or notch on the brass seating surface, and no amount of reseating will get rid of it. I don’t know what causes it. I usually end up buying a new tap

      Over tighting or medal rubing it. Like if rubber ring gets worn out or can damage the seat or just being old and corsion can cause damage. Easy fix

    I don't know why Seat Grinding would be necessary..as Brass is a lot harder than the Rubber Valve..The Seat is Black because of Tarnishing..eventually with repeated grinding..there'd be no Seat left..using the Drill is by far easier, however is more severe...

    I've had a plumber in to do everything you mentioned in your video but our hot water tap is still having mini drips. It's now turned on super tight all the time but i am worried that maybe its the pipe at the back that may require replacement 😭

      When the tap seat is resurfaced it has to be done 100% perfect as the smallest imperfection can cause it to continue dripping

    hey bill, i changed the taps in our shower, when i turn the cold water tap on, water comes out of the spindle, ive done the reseating, upgraded the washers etc etc but still does it, hot water tap side is completely fine, do you know what it might be?

    After turning off water, remember to drain excess water from pipe before proceeding... :)

    let them know, that there is no need to remove more than enough of the seating, I have been plumbing for more than 50 years, once I reseated a tap, but it still leaked, with the new washer, it turned out it was due the dezincification of the brass seating

      Billshowto the tap will close to a drip, and any tighter closed it like slips past closed, to being at full pressure. So it won’t close past a drip then it will overturn, all clockwise, and be full pressure. I hope you understand what I’m trying to explain lol thank you
