Your description of where the leakes will show on the spindle was a game changer. My o ring needed replacing a following your instructions made it easy. Thanks 👍
Thank you for explaining what/where it leaks when which part is compromised! Not a lot of videos do that - just fixes the problem, no further knowledge. Much appreciated!! Great video!!
Simple but the best explanation. Thanks. Had a plumber in to look at mine leaky taps. Advice is I need to replace them which costs $490 for 4. These taps are only15 years old. I will do what you said and see whether the problem is solved.
This is a very good basic tap maintenance video but before commencing this job do turn off the water at the mains where the water enters the property. If this is not done, you will surely get a good shower when you remove the tap spindle. Another important step is to make sure that the seat where the tap washer is to seal is clean and smooth. And don’t forget to turn the water back on at the mains on completion. Even though doing this job is probably illegal, it is a simple task requiring only basic skills.
Great video, thanks. Discovered a groove in the seat of my cold so yeh, more work to do. But it's improved a lot. The cold was also missing the red washer for whatever reason. They both had a little teflon tape on the spindle threads, so I re-did that also. My old crappy washers had swelled up and would not fit back up through the bases. Used side cutters and needle pliers to force them out.
Dear Sam,Please do make some videos.. because this video helped me alot,i have a leaking tap,it annoys me during the night, the sound of the water drips..
Thanks, helped a lot. I changed only tap washer and body washer as my tap was leaking. Seems fine for now. I didn't do the o ring yet but will do if it leeks in future.
Very helpful thanks. I'm going to try the needle nose pliers method of removing the o-rings, instead of a tiny flat head screw driver. I love hearing the "proper English" terms like spanner wrench, anti-clockwise, tap grease , etc 😊. lighting and camera work could use a little improvement but good work .
Should you/I apply the grease to the red fibre washer too? That is where my hand basin tap seems to (still!) be leaking from... Other reading I've done says that the fibre washers absorb a little bit of water and expand to provide a better seal and I'm not sure if a layer of grease will stop them being able to do that.
thankyou i have exactly the same taps.... although i discovered a couple of bits missing in mine and my cold water taps' shroud does not sit flush on the basin 🤔 never has....i will have to use the reseating tool though as it's still got a bit of water coming out after i turn the water tap off ..... the hot water all good 👍🏼
Best explanation ever. Question though. Your spindle had 2 'o' rings. Every spindle I have bought at Bunnings or even those I repaired only had one 'o'-ring mounted. Why different???
Brilliant! Utterly brilliant - I hope the plumber I call is as professional in dealing with the dripping hot water tap over the wash hand basin as you are in this video. In this instance I would accept cheap & cheerful (washer replacement) why? because both the sink & tap hardware will be upgraded soon - still in the process of searching for a compact wash basin. I also want to replace all the bathroom hardware: (hot & cold)shower & bath set, also have a shower rail with hand spray installed, need the tap outlet over the bath replaced and also the hot & cold taps over the laundry trough & finally the washing machine taps & inlet hoses to the washer need replacing. Oh almost forgot - those dreadful grab rails over the bath also need to be replaced to something a little more sleek in style, & finally there is the mixer tap in the kitchen it is cumbersome for pot washing - worst design ever. I therefore need a plumber I neither have the skill set nor the tools to do the work. I procrastinate getting the work done because I have yet to find a plumber that I feel confident will A). do the work, & B). not over charge.

Excellent video. Clear instructions and I got to know what I need to change to stop leaking tap, thank you.
Cheers for the video! My spindle doesn't wind all the way down like yours...could it be the threading inside of the spindle needs servicing?
