- I continue my adventure cruising my boat up the Shroppie - The Shropshire Union Canal travelling with a fellow single handed boater. We survive the ordeal of Tyrley locks which are famous on the canal network for their very fierce by-washes and moor up in an absolutely stunning location for a couple of days, I hurt my back breaking a mooring hammer and then continue onwards to Norbury.

Pusser's Rum supplied rum to the British Navy, when every sailor got a rum ration. The practice was stopped on July 31, 1970, know as Black Tot Day. It was used to make the first cocktail, called Grog. A mixture of rum, water, lime juice and brown cane sugar. When you drink Pusser's Rum, you are drinking British Navy history. No, I don't work for the company.
Always remember: Drinking Rum before 10 am makes you a pirate, not an alcoholic :}

Hi Heidi, RUclips decided to drop your episode 39 on me, I watched it and was totally hooked. I binge watched every episode from the start and have finally caught up only to find I am getting withdrawal symptoms only watching 1 episode a week, never mind keep 'em coming. Your filming is very convincing, who would have thought a 73 year old would have shed a tear over the passing of a little pug he's never met.

We are annual holiday boaters and live in Market Drayton so know these waters well. I have spent many hours helping boaters through Tyrely. Great fun. We have binge watched all 100+ episodes. This week the pirate sailed the Shroppy,broke her hammer and got quite stroppy,to make things worse she did her back in,any excuse to hit the Kraken.

Buy a hammer with a longer shaft, I cringe when I see you hammering those metal spikes in, so easy to miss and break a finger or two, never mind taking all the skin off, you dont need a heavy head, just one with a longer shaft.......This was spoken by experience, it didnt half hurt I can tell you.

Another lovely vlog. Mum and I travelled the Shroppie a long time ago (at least a decade), and I remember the narrow sections. I hope that your back gets better soon (if you can hold a straight posture it will help). Deep Heat is useful, especially if you can rub it in just before you go to bed. One of the reasons I love travelling on the canals is because you get to SEE the glorious views; I have lost count of the number of times I have driven past something wonderful without actually getting to see it! Mum came up with a useful trick to moor up when the banks are not holding mooring pins well. Drive a mooring pin at a more horizontal angle than normal until the ring is close to the ground. Then drive a second mooring pin through the ring at a similar (but opposite) angle until it's ring is close the the first. You should now have an X shape, with the apex at ground level. Repeat at the other end, and then moor up the boat through a ring as usual (but if you can get the rope through both rings it would be better), and (with a bit of luck) these will hold on looser banks.

That hill is the Wrekin, (Pronounced reekin) near Telford and the hills further in the distance to the right of the Wrekin are the Shropshire hills surrounding Church Stretton.

I grew up on military bases and used 24 hour clock. I'm surprised that you do the same. Why, I find that I'm the odd one out when I use the 24 hour clock. When you by a new hammer make sure it has a fiberglass handle they are really hard to break.

Because it’s a Narrowboat and not a yacht and we are in the UK and it’s what’s we use 🏴☠️
