This week with the Secret Starting Class series: The Night's Cavalry in Elden Ring have some pretty solid drip, and some cool weapons to boot, but are they good? Would a build using exclusively night's cavalry and nightrider equipment become Elden Lord fairly easily? Check out this dark build using the Night's Cavalry armor set, the Nightrider Flail, the Nightrider Glaive, and the Ice Spear Ash of War to rip through the Lands Between taking out any and all challengers in our way... even Malenia.

Those crabs are AMAZING to use for literally any build. Especially ones that don't use incantations.
Makes Malenia tankable with a few other things. (Good armor, the defense boosting Physic Flask, the Dragon Tower Shield talisman.)
Some of us have bad experiences with men with crabs.
The crabs cancel out howl of shabriri, black flames protection, and flame grant me strength. Because you can only have one body buff active at one time.

I just watched the whole video again becasue I missed this joke. worth it. don't feel bad, he's just asking an honest question, it has happened before.... like a lot, so many times that they needed to get the courts involved

I love how mobile the knights are on their horses when you're on the ground. They just zoom all around the place, like they're expecting you to be on a horse as well.

Would be a sick starting setup
My favourite Halberd, my Favourite Flail and one of my favourite Armors in one character. Combining it with things like Helphens Steeple, the Rosus Axe and the Skeletons make a nice Death Knight.
I feel in love with the flail after randomly getting it, and found out the nightrider flail is a better version. It's a pity they all have spinning weapon as a default, wild strikes makes them really sing.
Some commentary on the Forbiden lands bit:
At the moment the citizens of leyndell are unfamiliar with nepheli, so it truly is between morgott and the dung eater.
The dung eater’s number one goal once in power is to get rid of nepheli, while morgott has no intention of doing anything beyond quelling uprising from any tarnished.
The time for nepheli stans to deal with morgott is once the dung eater is fully out of play, and nepheli can solely command the opposition to morgott.
We nepheli stans can’t just sit and twiddle our thumbs while we wait for the dung eater’s next chance at control, there is work to be done.
The dung eater will never be out of play. His platform has proven popular enough that when he dies, another will just keep doing what he’s doing. And a whole lot of tarnished will keep saying “you NEED to choose the lesser evil, even if they are also terrible.”
@@disnark "out of play" meaning not in power and not at a time that power can be acquired. Some may ask "when will we finally be able to put nepheli in charge?" Well gee fuckin golly, are we gonna do the work of building up nepheli's forces? Or are we gonna sit and wait for the next battle between morgott and the dung eater so us high and mighty enlightened thinkers can have the exact same predicament to whine about?
Perhaps we ought to help nepheli gain control of stormveil before we take leyndell.
the point I'm trying to make is that instead of simply complaining about the awful situation we're in, we should plan for the future to avoid a repeat of the same dilemma.
@@samueleborn9909 I swear, the people who complain about the lesser of two evils seem to fundamentally believe that you can only do one political activity per New Game+ cycle, and that choosing between Morgott and Dung Eater is that one activity.
You've got a whole stamina bar! And it regens! You can join a pro-Nepheli organization or protest Morgott's silence and implicit endorsement of what's going on in Caelid!
Choosing between Morgott or Dung Eater is important, but its also the bare minimum, and if you want to see Nepheli Loux in front of the Erdtree then you have to do more than just the bare minimum.

I don't get the "copy and paste" complaint for Night's Cavalry and dragons, they're clearly an enemy type and not individual bosses. In fact, I feel like the dragons go beyond what was necessary and made several of them distinct
It's a weak complaint. Same with the erdtree avatars. They're an enemy type with a "boss" Healthbar and they make sense lorewise since one is assigned to each minor erdtree to guard it. The idea that all 5,000+ or however many enemies in the game need to be different is silly. Wouldn't even make sense. It's more immersive and compelling to think there are entire factions and species that we are fighting.
My favorite stat? The fact that there are more empty homes in America than there are unhoused people meaning homelessness is nothing more than a cruelty inflicted on the downtrodden as punishment. Oh, you mean in Elden Ring? Uh...vigor.
If people couldn't get money by hoarding homes - you wouldn't see so many homes. Though I agree that there should be some limit
Also I would take arcane simply due to increased drop rate. Even if vigor is objectively better

Aye. You don't even have to just hand over houses to people, it could be conditional stewardship. You get to stay in a house while you get back on your feet. In the meantime, you need to keep the house in good condition. The house can still be for sale/sold and you'll be moved to another house. Not a perfect solution of course but it's better than the current situation and is a fairly balanced compromise.
@@overlorddante this might kind of work with good natured people. Problem is that majority won't leave house in a pristine state as it was before their 'stewardship'. So owner needs to buy a house and then bare all potential risks associated with unknown person with different values living there for some time. Because I highly doubt steward has enough money to pay for damages and natural deterioration of the home. Add squatting as well. Leasing/renting house for money is much more convenient for owners.
I think giving fines if home remains unoccupied for 6-12 months is an option. Ofc there should be a price tag limit (problem in affordable housing) and for how long home should be occupied to avoid fine so people dont get 1 day tenants for 10$
My favourite part about your stat is that it's applicable to literally everything.
Every single human on this planet could be housed, fed, clothed and given healthcare and none of us would have to abstain from anything, because everything is being overproduced to the point of literally throwing it away to keep prizes stable.
If we only produced and distributed as much as people need/consume we could reduce our workload.

Favorite stat is Arcane because it helps me grind for gear less.

So true. I made a char and leveled arcane to 94 before putting even one point into vigor. It's like I'm playing an RPG with normal drop rates now
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Arcane's impact on drop rates is quite small.
@@dontmisunderstand6041 99 arcane almost doubles base drop rates. It's not as impactful with scarab and foot but you still 100% feel increased drop rates.
@@Dzimko-rc2io Think about the math on that. Lets say you have a drop that's a 0.5% chance. That means it takes 139 farming attempts to have a 50/50 shot at having already gotten it. If we double the drop rate, that same 139 attempts only brings it up to a 75/25 split. The increased drop rate is not meaningful for gear farming. It is, however, extremely meaningful for farming crafting materials, especially arrow crafting materials. And, to be frank... it's generally not worth wasting 89 levels on that for any build. Especially when you can't farm for the respec items.
Sure Nights calvary can get a little excited and jump off a bridge, but that means they should be able to make the swag jump to safety first try

another cool secret starting class is banished night there is a super easy one to farm at the church of dragon communion and it drops all of its armor a shield and a sword
So banished knight armor is weird because it has altered forms but you can’t alter one into another. For some of the better drip, I think you gotta go in Castle’s Hole.

I just started olaying again after about a year and a half off, had to restart cuz I didn't remember what quests U was trying to keep straiggt and just wanted a recap. Found these Elden Ring runs maybe a week or two ago and have binged all of them at least once while working. I really enjoy the run throughs, keep at it, I hope you have many build/run ideas to come.
OK, here's the deal with giant hunt:
1: It deals thrust damage, meaning it gets a counter hit bonus that can be further boosted with the spear talisman
2: It's got very high motion values
3: It's nice for roll catching and will knock player-sized opponents airborne

It also helps if you use the move regularly so you get used to the spacing and timing of it and don't just... try it for the first time against gargoyles and Malenia.
It's my main go-to for the Guts sword and I'm super comfortable with it there.
Love these guys. Fun fact, Phantom Slash (For Biden Lands cavalry) is personally a favorite non unique AoW for me, is just cool visual and fun damage/status buildup
Let's be real, phantom slash is a unique ash of war, but one that lets you switch scaling, damage types and even to other ashes if need be.
It's just too cool, powerful and versatile to not be unique.

Personally, my favorite stat in Elden Ring is Poise. No, you don't get to interrupt my attacks, in fact fuck you have some damage for trying.

I think it's stupid as hell how the mace that the knight's cavalry uses LOOKS REALISTIC in size. The one you get for killing him? A stupid little stick with bouncy spiked plastic balls on the end.

Sad to hear Cast or Pass is off, but I understand. They really aren't your way to play, and the fact they are my way to play may go a long way to explainjng why I don't enjoy Elden Ring (yeah I've tried a Weapon run, it's fine, but I still don't enjoy it because I *like* playing as a wizard)

Best way to fight Night's Cavalry, counter intuitively, is to go on foot and always stick to the right (their left, off hand). It forces them to frequently switch weapon to the side, for an easily dodgeable attack.
Occasionally they'll try to reset their position by running away and returning with a jump attack. Dodge roll and restart the pressure by going right again

FINALLY. My favourite secret starting class. I like using phantom slash and the mimic tear. If you alter the cavalry garments and use the halberd you look just like the phantom. That means it’s also a d&d echo knight class. It’s a twofer!
Absolutely love this game probably my favourite of all time, I can understand when people argue that there are many reused boss fights. While I do agree with this to an extent the bosses that appear at night make your first playthrough scary to explore at night but some of the best rewards are from these fight so they have become some of my favourites in the game!
for the caves with rot when you jump down into the rot turn backwards and back step through it makes it much much quicker than walking through

04:05 my favourite way of finding them is with 100 medium shield and using counters, yes it takes longer because you have to wait and it's longer fight but it's safe

Some advice about the Soreseal: in the early game, the added health and the heavier armor it lets you use can actually outpace the increased damage taken due to the debuff. Plus, at the point you can get it, you probably don't have anything better to put in that talisman slot, so the opportunity cost is a lot less. I've heard the point at which the added health stops outweighing the debuff is around 40 vigor, but I personally play it safe and ditch it around 30-35. Just be sure you've got the stats to use all of your gear without it before you get rid of it.
The draconic tree sentinels could be the "DEX" horse girls, as lighting is associated with DEX but i prefer to classify them with the flail as the DEX weapon.

You should do the cuckoo knight build. Just their armor and weapons they use with the ashes of war and a few spells and consumables. That's what I'm doing now, and it's pretty good for the midgame.
It is kinda funny you can get both their weapons before fighting any other bosses despite how their armor is in one of the most end game areas
MV of a 2H charged R2 is 165 for the Nightriders Glaive while Giants hunt is 220 and has the launching property. And stance damage is 33 compared to 30 so its only slightly worse then a charged R2.
Has there been a Commander Niall secret starting class run? the Banished Knight Set can be farmed in Caelid and is a close knock-off of the Veteran Set, the Commander's Standard drops from Commander O'Neil who can be swamp-cheesed, and the Banished Knight Engvall ashes drop from the duelist in Murkwater Catacombs
This is actually a good build for Elden beast. The glaive with phantom slash or black tornado had me in tears. 😂

Try to use as many of his iconic weapons as possible, get the drop on point, and maybe even some Ninpo (optional)
If you put the weapon in your left hand and swap to it while on torrent it counts as two handing it and you get the strength bonus and can wield it.
Another banger. I'm not usually one to brag about liking certain people according to their views, but even though i watch primarily for the content, it definitely doesn't hurt when your favorite elden ring streamer is unfathomably based.
Yeah man, the Nightrider Glaive is awesome. Can I also suggest Blood Tax for an AoW? It lacks the range of Ice Spear, but the health regen and repetative poking are pretty great.

the night's cavalry are still one of my favourite to fight and look at, but i feel like it would've done a LOT for them if they had more weapons and maybe some armour variation like we had with crucible tree and axe.
i could easily see the duo night's cavalry be a setup of one constantly hounding you with a big ol' black lance (i'm immediately thinking of the lance we already have, but just heavier, longer and a bit more detail on there), while the other night's cavalry just constantly circles around you with a bow, crossbow or ballista.
i was also surprised we didn't see any night's cavalry with a (ultra)greatsword, greathammer, twinblade or reaper. just anything long i guess. but at the VERY least i'd have expected a big fuck off lance and a shield. jousting, boys!
(or hell, look at the weeping peninsula night's cav. should've given us a greatflail as well as the regular one.)

Is it weird that I find it easier to fight all the Nights Cavalry on foot? Cuz it allows me to focus up a bit better and actually dodge the tackle and uppercut follow up.
3:35 their stance is 80,but night cavalries have a stance damage multiplier of 0.2 which makes the effective stance 400

When doing horseback battle against mounted enemies, night cavalry, tree sentinels etc. You CAN use torrents double jump to dodge attacks you know?

Please oh please do Fire Monk Secret Starting Class. You can get their whole set and mace early in Liurnia. You can even upgrade to blackflame monk later and use the 2h curved sword. It's kind of a Ronin Warriors Ryo of Wildfire scenario.
Another idea, Ryo of Wildfire. Samurai start and twin uchihatanas with Flaming Strike and/or Flame of the Redmanes. Upgrade to White Reed set for his white armor.
