The finger maiden can flick anyone into oblivion, she can pick her friends, pick her nose, but can she pick the right moment to NAIL the swag jump to safety first try?
All jokes aside, some of those two-finger spells (especially the fortifications) have helped survive battles with the hardest bosses in the game. The weak versions are even made for the faithless. How generous.
I was going to comment this, there's the whole haha caster etc but if you're playing a build that has no spells, I would strongly consider speccing 12 or 15 faith for basic buffing. That gives you access to: 12 - Bestial Vitality for regen 10 -Basic protection for Fire, Magic and Lightning (and holy, I just didn't remember where to find it, lol) 15 - Flame Grant me Strength for that extra 20% damage (though you get less overall if you're not fire or pure physical) 12 - Flame Cleanse me that can help in a handful of places 10 - Assassin's Approach if you want some cheeky basckstabs or unbothered runs For most starting classes that's a pretty low investment, you don't need to worry about speccing mind because of any of these and they're quite generically handy. If you start with a class that has 10 arcane you can even use the Dragon Communion seal for 0 weight. None of these benefit from any seal upgrades anyway so you don't care what you're even using The next "important breakpoint", imo, would be 25 where you get a better regen spell, advanced protection against fire, lightning and magic, and Golden Vow, but that's definitely a more considerable investment and I would only consider it if you already need like 20 ish for some weapon you were already thinking of using, also at that point you're two faith away from Lord's Divine Fortification if you've beaten Malenia but Radagon/Elden Beast are giving you grief.
People need to get their minds out of the gutter with these two finger analogies, it's obviously just about the proper way to pet sharks and horseshoe crabs
20:12 True, because a great deal of weapons, spells and ashes of war are suboptimal compared to something like Night Comet, but that doesn't mean that using them isn't fun.
Literally untrue. Doing less damage from more dangerous ranges while being tied to a finite resource that also inherently eats your ability to heal (and thus survive). There isn't even *a* possible perspective that suggests Night Comet can keep up with weapons, let alone be better than them. Physical damage is also the best damage type in the game, according to just the math on resistances.
@@sweetsovereignty7745 Spellcasting is the thing I enjoy most in games. It's my go-to. Elden Ring spellcasting sucks ass. I wish it didn't, but it does. I've done the sorcery only run. Silly finger weapon did pretty good here, be proud of how well you did basically withiut armour. It also helps in dungeons, long fights with dots and short fights with annoying enemies. Its also super fast to cast, so its useable even in melee. Its inly downside is that you need to drop into the firemonk camp near the church of vows to pick it up, but since dog pope is a mandatory visit for each playthrough it's not that out of the way.
Aye, love that incant ! No idea why certain resources are non-respawning, especially when they are used to craft basic healing items - like rot bollouses. But who needs that shite ? Slap on Flame Cleanse me and use it freely : D
I'm definitely looking forward to the eventual Rennala secret starting class video. I'd kind of want to see you challenge yourself by only using the Scepter's Ash of War since it does a surprising amount of damage at high Int. It'd also kind of prove that the spells are unnecessary. Anyway, my favourite spell is Frenzied Burst for long range sniping and because enemies cannot input read to dodge it, and my other favourite "spell" is Bloodboon Ritual.
Enemies don't read inputs but they do read animation frames. As an example, Godskin Apostle reads the flask heal frame 1 and responds to it with fireball reliably, which is a shorter animation than the flask heal, so if you don't bait out an attack first and start the heal during it, you just will get hit by the fireball.

I will defend shields by saying: Slap shield crash and a status on any shield, and it makes a great secondary weapon. Shield crash is hilariously good for proccing statuses even if you don't have the stats to give you good buildup.
Having any un-upgraded greatshield and 30 Endurance lets you just block any boss' full combo string in full, and then retaliate. Playing defensively invalidates the entire game because shields are too strong.

You should be able to cast basic spells while shielding or as a guard counter variant (glintblade and glintshard while shielding, gavel greatsword and piercer as counters for starters)
What I suggest for malenia is to use a shield for the first volley of the waterfowl, then dodge the rest of it as u have enough i frames for it.
