Impeccable repair! 👏👏👏 The owner could have also ordered to change the other side to leather, but perhaps was a dealer, and did not want to pay the extra expense?
Beats me why supposedly quality makers use inferior materials . I have a year 2000 Peugeot 206 , 104,000 miles and the seats are old but perfect ( cloth and vinyl ) .
It's about perceived quality. Premium brands use nicer materials, not better ones ;) It's a subtle but important difference. BTW That seat doesn't look premium, it looks utilitarian. Sprinter maybe? Definitely not a Mercedes sedan.
Both of my Mercs had leather seats, one lasted 170,000mls before we scrapped it due to an injection fault but it was a 2001 (accountants build) and the other, currently in storage has 285,000mls a W124 (engineers build). Neither have had any seat blemishes at all. Indeed, it is fair to say that the older Mercs particularly pre 1995 were better built. I would bet that the vinyl seats found in the base model W123 and W 124 will still be in good sound condition.
I have only worked on 1 Mercedes from the last century and that was for a new boot carpet. Not a seat. Every other is less than 15 years old and most have been the driver’s seat
@@coastalcushionco8227 Maybe this proves my point that former Mercs were better built as no doubt there will be many cars from that era that will be subject to restoration and upholstery is normally farmed out to the specialists. I have always said that Mercedes were built by engineers prior to 1995, which is where they built their formidable reputation. Between 1995 and 2003 they were built by accountants, which destroyed their reputation and post 2003 they were/are built by the marketing men, who see bling outshining quality.

The owner was selling it

@@EustaH It is defiantly a Mercedes seat and the materials used are neither nicer or better quality

Can you use steam or any other way/product on recaro seats to take down the shine?
Yes you can use steam and some cleaner will help

I'm guessing Mercedes outsource their seats?
Most companies outsource their seats. But I am sure that they have a say on the quality of materials used and the overall cost
Mercs are grossly over-rated
I think so too. I would never have one
Mercedes has been resting on past laurels since the mid 90s yet are still charging rip-off prices.
@@michaelbacon561 Michael you are absolutely correct. No mercs for me!
Yet another example of Mercedes' nose-dive in quality. Why do people buy them???
people buy them to show other people that they are doing well in life. They are still a status symbol
