Alcohol and cigarettes addiction actually destroyed my life. I could remember several years ago after divorce with my wife which brought me into my disastrous journey on Alcohol and cigarettes. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Got diagnosed with cptsd. Not until a friend recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Much respect to mother nature the great magic shrooms.

I'm 56 and have suffered for years with addiction, anxiety and severe ptsd, I got my panic attacks under control myself years ago and they have come back with a vengeance, I'm constantly trying to take full breaths but can't get the full satisfying breath out, it's absolutely crippling me, i live in Netherland. Antidepressants at 18-29. 31 now. I took way to much, but took about 20g of Gold caps (Psilocybin containing mushroom) I analyzed my entire life. The emotions that came out helped me understand behavior etc more. Wont ever need to do it again because I'm happy and contempt forever, but I wish more people did this to alter their perception of reality. Would help with healing much trauma

The worst part about being a raging alcoholic, is that you can actually FEEL alot of these things happening in your body...It's an indiscribable misery, of constant hangover/drunkedness, not being able to eat, constantly vomiting...Just trying to keep down a few drinks long enough to metabolize to kill the shakes/body pain...As an alcoholic it's VERY clear that alcohol IS poison. You feel yourself slowly dying..

I am an alcoholic. My illness started later in life, neither mom nor dad ever drank so I wasn’t exposed to it. In college I didn’t really drink, while most my of my friends did. I started in Grad School, gained a lot of weight, depressed, and anxious, turned to alcohol. I have been suffering from this for about 7 years now, sometimes I drink every day, sometimes every 2 days, but it is a constant struggle. My father has suffered from wet brain for a long time. He was told 3 years ago he had 2 years to live. He's still here, but his body can't digest food correctly. He's thin and pale, he's wasting away. He has sores from malnutrition because even if he eats, even if he takes medications, his body just can't absorb it properly anymore. He's been a heavy drinker his whole life. He began drinking when he was 12, he never learned to read or write because his parents were also drunks. He has spent all his life in a bottle and unfortunately his family has always enabled him. I called him this New Years to ask if he was alright. His health is always bad, there's always more bad news, but hey at least he's able to talk. I'm glad he's still here. But he could be gone tomorrow, and the elephant in the room is we all know why.
Edit for context, as I'm sure it sounds insane, and it is insane, but he's from/grew up in, and lived his whole life in the Appalachia impoverished region of the southern US. Unfortunately being unable to read and write, and childhood alcoholism aren't that rare out there. It's very sad. Sad doesn't even cover it.

78 days sober today. Not that I'm counting haha I drank 12 pints of lager a day and smoked weed along with that. Started drinking in the morning until I fell asleep, then wake up feeling miserable and continued drinking, feeling 'better' again after the first 2 pints.
I can't explain how my life changed for the better these last 2, 5 months. Still, I'm craving very heavily at the moment. I know why, it's always the emotions, and I know what I should do and I will and am, but still. It's kind of sick.
Edit: Not to long after that comment, I relapsed. Fuck it, I convinced myself, just one evening. This turned in a 6 day bender. Very scary. Everything good just faded away and was replaced with fear and depression again. It was a big wake up call, and I quit again and been sober since, feeling strong and peaceful again.
Ever since I quit a couple of months ago (I quit for 3 months minus 6 days now 😉) I get reality checks, some are more confrontational than others. The one that made me drink again was a big one, but the reality check I got when under the influence was even bigger. Big enough that I wanted to quit ASAP again.
It's all part of it, I guess.
Thought I'd write this up too, for people who are in the same boat as me. Much love everybody, you can do it. 💙

I’m not an alcoholic, but I’ve never understood this idea of counting the consecutive days of zero alcohol consumption. To me, it’s more logical to look at a trend. For example, In this past four months did I drink less or more. If the trend keeps getting better then your life will keep getting better. Fell down? So what. Get back up. This all or nothing mentality seems futile. For alcohol or most anything in life.

I see what you are saying. But I guess for some it has to be all or nothing. As some people are powerless and will will drink continuously and cause significant mental and physical harm to themselves when they do this. The concept of 'benders' here is important, as I think this is what distinguishes alcpholic from moderate or occasional drinkers @JK-vc7ie

    • @dawsonwoolford9660
      @dawsonwoolford9660 2 месяца назад

@@JK-vc7ieThis is very true and the course of action most addiction counselors and therapists will take for majority of addictions. Be it gambling, sex, or indeed, alcohol. Progress isn’t always as straightforward and linear as a lot of people not suffering from addiction might think. I can say this as I’m 19 with a (somewhat) problematic drinking habit. A year ago (it’s now march of 2024) I was drinking a handle of vodka or rum in 2-3 days, couple or few times a week. Now I’m down to a 2 6 once or twice a week, often less though. I no longer feel the need to drink like I once did, and to me that is progress. I still get cravings and I don’t think I have the strength yet to cut it out completely, but I have been noticing a downward trend with alcohol consumption as the months pass by, and hopefully it will continue on this trend further. I’m too young to notice any health problems from drinking yet but alcohol is a slow poison that will eventually creep up on me with time, so it’s better I deal with this now than 25 years from now.
(Edit: I live in Canada and in a province where the drinking age is 18, so I’m legally buying alcohol, just not without the disapproval of family, friends, and my current romantic partner)

I’m 27 years old and I have been drinking since I was about 12 and heavily since 14. About 7 months ago I went on a 3 day bender and barely ate or slept. I ended up having a grand mal seizure in front of my house, thankfully while one of my drinking buddies was there to call the paramedics. I have been sober for 6 months now but I’ve already caused damage to my cerebellum in my brain, damage to one of my kidneys, and neuropathy affecting my ability to feel where my limbs are in space which makes it difficult to walk on uneven surfaces without tripping or falling. Doctors are hopeful that since I’m so young that I’ll be able to recover with extensive physical therapy and sobriety but it’s crazy to have problems like this at such a young age. Let my mistakes be a lesson to any of you younger guys here that think your partying will have no consequences.

this video strengthens my decision to remain alcohol free. I tried a bit in my early 20s (a glass or 2 at a party) and hated it ever since. How it tastes, smells, how people act while inebriated and its just, not something that would add value to my life. Props to everyone who has conquered this addiction and chosen to stay sober, also to those who watch and learn from the lives of others (as I did), deciding to not drink.

I don't think I've drank in over a year, nothing to worry about and I'm not an alcoholic, as I'd like to have the odd drink but there comes a time when you think even 2 shots of spicy rum with a mixer is just too much and you put the kettle on 😂. I did drink excessively for a few years, thru not working and depression, and ended up with a fatty liver that I could feel in my chest and it hurt too when my doc gently pressed on it. He said not to immediately stop drinking just cut back to moderate levels and in a few months, with more exercise, my fatty liver was looking way better and cleared up. So if you drink loads and you get a pain in the chest, that's your liver crying and being angry at you for the abuse! Drink cool and not like a fool! 👍

Grew up around alcohol 24/7 with the inevitable abusive short and long term results emotionally and the physical. As young adults we drank beer 5 days a week after softball, MN and Sunday football and chasing girls at the clubs. As we got older the drinking was always there all the time. I quit on and off for 30 days, 90 days, 6 months and the longest 2 years to train get back in shape focus on my business or just accepting it was getting out of control. When I went back to drinking I gave all my gains back eventually. Weight gain was the most noticeable. I could would go from Fit and a proper weight to fat then obese within the year. I accepted that the liver attacks poison first before anything else and if overworked will store everything else as fat. This is why in your youth you bounce back from nights out drinking and can keep the weight off more or less. As you age you wear out the liver and store fat instead of eliminating. This is why when you quit drinking you lose weight. Along with the caloric reduction your liver is free to process everything you put in your body sans alcohol. I no longer drink because it’s boring, people who drink are boring it packs on the weight and interferes with my work outs, relationships and business results. It is quite the change when you factor in how alcohol is woven into all aspects of our society and culture. I prefer being FIT and all my lab tests in the normal range. Just had to eliminate the booze. Simple really but admittedly difficult but not impossible. Focus on how good you feel to help stay the course. Good luck.

I feel bad to watch them 10 years later having real problems with alcohol (and so weed).

You couldn’t pay me to go back to my binge drinking days that lasted from age 16 to mid 20s! I didn’t know how much easier life can be w/o and how much it held me back!
Also, I’d later learn I have an inherently genetic mutation for “cancer disease”, meaning I’m missing functions that DNA repairs damage or transcription(copy) errors. And thus had/have much higher risk of health consequences. I was diagnosed with a brain & spine tumor at age 27, and I’ll never know if that, and it’s various pathological mutations, was influenced by those poor choices & behaviors that might have introduced toxins to a young, still-developing brain.
It easier being clean now I’ve hit my 30s, since my body punishes me far more than the fleeting buzz is worth. Any more than 2 beers means a bad hangover, I’ll feel it for a full 24 hours after. And each hangover gets(got) has been worse than last, relative to amount drank. It feels like every cell, from organs to mitochondria are all screaming, as if running a rpm engine starved of oil. I wasn’t listening to my body, which was trying to say, “this is poison! And it’s killing us!”. I’d only wished I listened to my body soon, rather than try to ‘keep up’ or ‘go wild’, because it wasn’t till after learning of my mutations and diseases that that terrible feeling I’d dismissed was actually explained by the fact my biology is particularly unsuited for drinking.
I’m not 100% abstinent now, but I’ll only ever have 2 beers once a month these days, and I’M finally the one in control, not the addiction. And considering I’ve got incurable, low grade brain cancer, plus all the cascade of issues that come from that, I’ve finally learned that I can’t be wasting any more days of my life on predictably, and increasingly worse hangovers. I ignorantly relied on alcohol as a “cheat code” to ‘good times’ and happiness, which handicapped me from learning to regulate my own ‘contentment’ organically. I’m quite lucky to have lived through and recovered from my addiction, though, ironically in part due to the major life interruption of my cancer diagnosis, surgery, treatments, etc. It was only after recovering physically & emotionally recover from a couple of scary, painful years spent flirting with the grim reaper, did I finally achieve a state of ‘Acceptance’ and gratitude for each day.
*But not everyone gets a second, or third chance to reflect and learn from their mistakes, live again, remake yourself like I did.. You’re never too young to admit (or be ashamed) you have a problem and need a change in your life*
Whether alcohol or drugs, many of those old friends who were ‘goin hard’ like I was, didn’t live to 30.
*You’re never too young to say, “I don’t think I like alcohol”* or, just acknowledge, “I feel worse then others after I drink, maybe it doesn’t jive with my biochemical makeup, and/or “I can’t control how much I drink”. The earlier you make a change, especially while your brain is still growing maturing, the bigger the positive impact and significantly lower many health consequences (physical & mental) by ending that activity that has chronic, cumulative, and unpredictable risks to life & wellbeing.
So, any young people reading this, listen to your body! Don’t let peer pressure or unrealistic conceptions of who you think you want to be, and what’s expected to be “cool”. Don’t mistake, because of its legality, alcohol is a hard drug with major risks. Be safe! Knowing when (and being able) to say “no more” or “not today” in teens and 20s will not only keep you healthy, but pay major dividends if learn to apply that discipline earlier in all aspects of your life.
(Lol I’m might as well start writing scripts for a channel or blog at this point)

Interesting and informative video for sure. Here's my story I was an alcoholic and I drank beer everyday and in my late 20s I was drinking 12 to 14 beers per day and it wasn't good at all. In the fall/winter of 2020 I was in the hospital with bad pain in my sides and I had my spleen removed. While I was in the hospital I realised I had to quit alcohol for good and I'm glad I did. I'm now 2 years and 6 months sober from alcohol and I never felt better. Now all I do is drink coffee, some caffeinated beverages and smoke cannabis and that's it. I'm all for moderation but it does depend on the person.

I have been drinking a bourbon on the rocks at 4:30 everyday for about 23 years. I have gradually reduced the amount I consume so that now I have about 3/4 of a shot glass daily. I am proud of this small accomplishment and excited about becoming alcohol free very soon.

Consume when truly desired, for health, soberly, with rare mild exception if otherwise. Don't consume as a 'habit', or 'social drinking'. Don't drink just to drink. Drink because it's a healthy nutritionally signficant beverage which also gives you some calories to energize, and not be diminished in capacity, but to be boosted. All in moderation. Beer is by far best and healthiest if non-pasteurized.
There's heavy 'drinking', and, there's healthy moderate drinking. Understand the history of beer and wine: They're healthy beverages if they're of appropriate percentage-alcohol (not excessive) and not imbibed to excess / problematic excess. Consume for resulting vitality. Don't consume to be diminished.

Hate when I go to a really nice restaurant and the waiter ask, " would you guys like to order drinks?" The minute I say nope, water is fine. The waiters cheerfulness drops. You can tell they are upset bc he will not get a HUGE tip. This is why I dine out less and less.

our health is in our own hand, recently i consumed much beers and alcohol for 4 days straight like from morning till night and wasn't eating anything much coz I've problem I can't just drink in moderation though that's why i stopped drinking few months ago but now i relapsed again like from 1st of nov to 4th nov, if i drink i do it badly without thinking abt consequences and now I'm 2 days sober but still dealing with headache, stomachache, disturbed sleeps and bad nightmares idk when I'll be in normal but i sweared to god and my parents that I'm not gonna do it again coz I'm never scared of alcohol but I'm scared of the unbearable results of withdrawal, now I'm trying to eat more but still having problems i try to sleep but i can't only drinking plenty of water and i know I'm gonna make it but let me tell y'all if you can't do it moderately or occasionally then it's not for you my dear i believe life is more beautiful and wonderful without drink may god help and give enough strength to cope with my current situation it's horrible and all the people who are also fighting..🙏

8 months sober now. Having survived severe pancreatitis, I'm lucky enough to be alive. I spent 3 weeks in the ICU having to go through Christmas and New Year's eve alone. The stomach pains were the worst! It always felt like it was about to explode! It was something I'd never wish even on my worst enemy. I've had the worst nightmares too! Just thinking of all those things I went through still makes me cry because I almost died. So after all those years of binge drinking, partying, coping up with depression and whatever reason it was for drinking, it finally caught up with me. I even thought I was invincible to adverse effects of alcohol when I drank too much, lol. Stay sober, friends.

Im glad I saw this a few months before becoming 16 years old, allowing me to drink as much as I want. I mean I decided to never abuse alcohol long ago, but now I think the best thing is to not even try it. Like it feels like theres no point, it smells and tastes weird/bad, it harms your entire body, it makes you unable to think clearly and drive, it makes you feel like shit afterwards, abusing it kills you, so even when depressed I wouldnt see any reason to try hurting myself even more, and anyone else shouldnt aswell. The only point I see in trying/drinking alcohol is for social reasons, which is also something Im gonna try to avoid.

When you do videos like these you need to state more information regarding what constitutes chronic drinking or alcohol abuse. Maybe even throw in help lines for some at the end and try and calm us anxious viewers down with some good statistics or information lol
